Finding someone online

and or finding out more about them and their life.   Have any of you ever you one of the people locator services that you pay for?  I know most of you on this board are young and use twitter and facebook and etc, but this was a person I last had contact with over 30 years ago and from random google type searches have found only spotty information.  Just wondering what your experiences have been, if they are worth the cost and etc.

this person lived in Washington State and California most of the past 30 years - that much I know - and facebook turned up nothing - does facebook erase accounts after they arent used for a specified time period?  And I have already gone the google route -

Really interesting story from someone that I know that is very relevant to your situation.

 

One of my colleagues lost his wife in 2003 to cancer. They had discussed the fact that she didn't want him to be alone for the rest of his life. She had always heard him speak fondly of his "high school sweetheart" and she encouraged him, on her death bed essentially, to reach out to this woman. It had been over 30 years, just like your situation. The only way that he knew how to get in touch with her was through alumni networks. So he contacted the high school and her college's alumni associations, explained who he was and why he wanted to contact her, and asked if they'd provide email, phone, or address. Both indicated rightfully so that they would not provide that information for privacy reasons, but that they would willingly pass along any message from him in addition to his contact info. So he wrote her a long letter and both schools sent it via email. She responded to him the next day. They are now married.

 

It might not work for everyone, but it's at least an idea that I know has worked for someone else. Good luck.

A lot of this stuff is free if you spend a little time searching. One of the easiest things to do is use intellius (I don't pay for their report) and they give you a few names associated with that person usually. If you can't find them, maybe you can find a relative. They give name, age, relatives and places lived. You may need more than that, but it's a good start. That's usually enough for me to find someone pretty quick. Usually one of them has facebook, twitter, etc.
