Gilbert was the highest contract ever for a DT and stayed in the top three. BY is still on a rookie deal (23rd this year in QB pay)and maybe he gets better, who knows... Gilbert was decent for ONE year and showed his age in the 2nd year of that contract. Third year he was awful and torn up his hip 8 games into the season. BY did cost two 2nds more (61 and 39) and DJ Moore whom the bears had to up his pay. Money wise and performance, Im still labeling Gilbert as the worst. BY can play better and has week 2-18 it showcase. Plus BY is not among the highest paid in the league. If he continues to play like week one, that may force me to take the crown form Gilbert and place it on BY. They both have only played about 10 good games, Gilbert fell off a cliff and come on one week is not the time for firing tepper, Dan, Dave, and BY into the sun....

Instead of rallying with his teammates in the huddle, communicating/talking strategy, etc he’s watching a video like a little kid. Everyone else is in the huddle but him. Unbelievable.

All six of Nic Scourten’s pass rush attempts yesterday
frankw replied to electro's horse's topic in Carolina Panthers
Exactly. We hired an offensive minded head coach. Not an offense only head coach. If he is too timid to dictate what he wants to his entire staff coming off a season where his defense gave up historic points then he's already got one foot out the door. -

Another Dan Morgan Dawg. -
Is it supposed to be better that this was during a key timeout considering this is the same game he threw a tantrum at the head coach and walked away to sit by himself?

Guy is on pace for a rookie season of 85 catches for 1,156 yards after Bryce looked like complete utter garbage and he "lost" a 30+ yard catch in which he drew a PI but maybe still made the catch (plus another 15 yarder negated due to a meaningless penalty, add just that 15 yarder and he's on pace for 102 rec and 1,400+ yards). But sure, he's meh and uninspiring, okay.

That was during a TV timeout.

The "Cali Connection" is strong Trevin Wallace's bad day Bryce Young's not-so-great day D.J. Wonnum among some standout defensive players Center Austin Corbett had a bad game. The starting veteran center had multiple errant snaps that disrupted the timing and rhythm of the offense. Legette is taking a good brunt of the loss after a subpar performance. He botched on the fundamentals, failing to get his feet in bounds on a few empty catches and coming up rather sluggish in blocking. Safety Nick Scott was inconsistent in his tackling and communication. Rookie Lathan Ransom had just nine snaps defensively. Cornerback Chau Smith-Wade looked solid at the nickel, showcasing reliability in pass coverage. He had a fine repetition on a third-down incompletion to Thomas Jr. Head coach Dave Canales had a rough day calling plays. Some of his choices in certain areas were underwhelming, and put the offense in compromising spots during key situational moments. The Jaguars seemed to have tells on what Canales was going to call and planned accordingly.

Since the trainers were giving out water, it was during a time out.

Not saying this is a great look, but honestly, it's too short with too little context to really make any kind of definitive statement about it. For a few reasons... First, it's very short and doesn't show what was happening right before, for all we know, there was a coach standing there with him and walked away seconds before that clip started. We also don't know what happened after, in particular, if this was cut off seconds before the waterways ran off the field to resume play, then it all makes even more sense because.... Second, to the people upset that he's not "in the huddle with his teammates", must have never watched an NFL game before. QB's are NEVER in the huddle at a time like that. They are ALWAYS standing 10-15 yards away from the huddle because they're standing there so the team can make any subs they want without having too many men in the huddle, as the huddle is wherever the QB is. Not to even mention that during timeouts, it's pretty standard practice for the players to stay on the field with waterboys coming out to them, while the QB comes over to talk to the coaches. So if this is coming out of the timeout, he's standing away from the huddle to let the play call come in and allow the team to swap players on the field, it's literally standard protocol in the NFL. And finally, if you don't think players glance up at the jumbo tron during timeouts during a game, then you're just fooling yourself or lying to yourself in trying to hold Bryce to some standard that other people aren't. And I say all this as no Bryce truther, I can't stand him and want him replaced, but this one is far from the proof of a problem that some people are trying to make it out to be.

Dave Canales was asked why the young guys don't play on defense but do on offense. He basically said he would like to see the young guys play more, but will leave that up to evero. Doesn't sound like a head coach -
I’m trying to be positive on Bryce Young, but….
frankw replied to LegioX's topic in Carolina Panthers
If you want to discuss the pieces around them and the coaching that's one thing. The aspect that cannot be disputed is they are night and day in terms of physical attributes. When defenses play Bryce Young they have everything on tape. They do not respect his arm. Can we just exist within this realm of reality for a moment and acknowledge that? It is the opposite for Mayfield. Baker has always had a tendency to make boneheaded decisions although he seems to have improved that significantly. But defenses always had to account for his arm. It was the same for Sam Darnold. Sam could throw a laser. Sometimes it would be pinpoint accurate. And other times it would be a horrible decision into double or triple coverage. But again defenses had to account for his arm. With Bryce they can cheat coverages. We are seeing what should be routine throws turning into constant 50/50 balls. And throws to the sideline? Forget it. High and out of bounds and that has been the story throughout Bryce Young's career so far. His arm talent is miniscule. It just is what it is unfortunately. But we knew what we were getting. We cannot claim ignorance. -

Who is comparing the two QB’s as football players? They’re completely different QB’s i said before Baker got here that he could play but the huddle swore up and down he was the worst ever Bryce very similar right now. Bryce out there with a bunch of guys that’ll be out of the league in a few years minus TMac. And given this thread is about the 4th and 1 play specifically well it was actually TMac that butchered the entire play by running the wrong route -
Team goes as the QB goes. It's no wonder we get dogwalked on a regular basis. That's the face of the franchise.

Rookie 2nd rounder in his first career game (and a few weeks post punctured lung) gets 6 snaps, is doubled on 5 of them, created a pressure to force a QB scramble on the only one he was singled, and still put a little pressure on one of the doubles which ended up being an INT........... And people look at that as a bad first impression? Even if you wanted to see a better move to beat or get off the double team, just the fact that he's making teams account for him with 2 players on a given snap, is a win for the defense. It's up to the rest of the defense to make the other team pay for doing so, you can't fault him for that. Seriously, it's like some people are just going to be upset with everything if we're not a SB contender every season and play like it every snap of every game. I've been screaming it all offseason, we're not a player or two away from being a contender, we're still in the early phase of a re-build, especially if we don't have the QB (spoiler alert, we don't). Sometimes you just have to see potential and growth from a team at this phase of the process, expecting elite play in week 1 out of guys like Scourton is a picture perfect recipe for ending up upset. If that's what he does in his first game coming off the freak injury and less practice time while recovering, I'm extremely optimistic of what he can turn into with more experience and time to work on his craft. -

That's not the level of effort that's going to warrant more snaps. At least Scourton had initial get off, he just had no idea what to do once an OL get their hands on him. -

Also here's some convo on Baker Mayfield's arm strength well before the Panthers got to him. Trying to compare him to Bryce Young is peak cope. https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/nwzx16/baker_mayfield_has_one_of_the_strongest_arms_the/ -

Man this place is a riot. When he plays average people compare him to the greatest QB's. When he plays poorly or horribly people downplay it altogether. Comical. Bryce Young and Baker Mayfield are two very different QB's. Baker has always had the physical tools and a really good arm. Bryce Young is not that and never will be. He outright refused to throw at the combine for this very reason. But he certainly won't even begin to approach Baker in the arm strength department by still going out of his way to avoid lifting weights in his third year as one of the smallest QB's in the league. Stop coddling him already he isn’t a newborn baby. -
What will it take for him to remove himself from the picture? That’s what I vote for.
