Surprise! Wait… Surprise Again! Kon Looks Really Good!
frankw replied to TylerDurden's topic in Charlotte Hornets
With all that was going on with the Panthers I got completely distracted from the fact there was a Hornets game. Now that is an ass whooping. Where the Ace Bailey boys at?????? -
That draft, if you recall, was before Fox's lame duck season. It was the one draft when Marty Hurney was on his own without input. I overheard Fox talking to Tergovac (I believe it was him--memory) and he was telling him "That's not an NFL QB." Then he watched Armanti Edwards drop a simulated punt from the jugs machine, and he shook his head and walked off laughing sarcastically. Hurney nabbed Clausen after two teams that desperately needed a QB passed on him--in rounds one AND two--and bragged that he stole a "top 10" QB. He tried to trade away our first-rounder the following season to move up to pick #33 to grab him. Then, rich with the draft capital he saved, traded up (later) for Armanti Edwards. I read a rumor that the Colts bluffed him about their interest in Edwards and he took the bait. Brandon Lafell in the third and I think he took headcase Hardy in the fifth or so that draft, with Eric Norwood (bust) in as our fourth rounder. Hurney sucked.

Folks are going to be really upset when his contract extension is announced. Whew.
-
TMac and Coker are more than adequate for any young quarterback. As far as the group beyond them what exactly are people expecting? At what point do people expect the #1 pick to begin to make his WR's better instead of the other way around?
-
Why he didn't blitz the statue of a QB that Stafford is (on the last series), is beyond me. Send the house and shake his ass up, or send Moehing or Ransom to plant him. Lame at best.

Fire Evero, he is pure trash!!!!

You clearly don't know what your talking about.. that's a zone defense. He didn't have rozeboom man to man following puka. -
We should have drafted Isaiah Bond instead of Jimmy.

I don't want to give the appearance that I and the Nostrah Dumbass of this board because I miss a lot when trying to analyze talent, but I was all over Coker before the draft. I wanted the Panthers to take him on day 3. When he did not get drafted, I started banging the drum for him. Apparently, they agreed. (All Hail, MHS!! All Hail). I also thought we should have drafted a DT (Marcel Dareus) over Cam Newton and give Clausen another year to develop. (Boo, MHS!!!, Boo to you!!!) All that to humble myself. Coker is not blazing fast, but he runs good routes and has perhaps the best hands in the NFL. I am tired of drops. He is of high character---a guy you can support--unlike some of these other WR divas in the NFL. Lock him up long term-I am guessing a deal in the $10m range (after yesterday) would not be out of the question. He had around 400 yards this season, so let's keep yesterday as a good game and not a coming-out. We need a consistent deep threat, imo, an explosive WR with good hands. Imagine that. XL? Maybe its back to road kill and Dolla Bill. Maybe this league was not meant for you. Nothing wrong with giving it a shot, making some bank, and returning to your home. Morgan? Your worst move so far. Learn from these "one hit wonders."

Popped into the Panthers reddit for a laugh and the overwhelming majority of posts were as expected except for one or two rare gems.
-
Coker is our #2 and should be a priority signing.
-
We do need a speed guy WR3 if Coker will be the #2. If only we could clone prime Ted Ginn jr.
-
1,2,3 will figure itself out. What they need is a complementary type of receiver. Coker is definitely in that mix
-
My favorite player ever. Seeing him back home makes my heart smile.
-
No clue how anyone who watched that game can come away thinking WR is our biggest priority. Defense. Defense. Defense. It's year 4 for Bryce. Make it work.
-
Coker is a legit #2. He might actually be better than Tmac. what we need is a legit YAC slot player and a pass catching TE. But some of that will get into the O scheme and QB. But we got 2 legit WRs in Carolina to play on the outside.
-
This offseason will be key for the franchise. A few good moves will put us in a good spot for the next 5 years. We really need to nail it.
-
Car123 started following What to do at WR2?
-
Coker balled out yesterday. Should he be the WR2 next season or should we bring in a legit #2?

Things like this used to matter. Now all some people value are silver linings and cope. Sad. -

Bridge tier QB. If you put Atlanta to the side, great games flat out have never existed in his 3 year career. And his good isn’t on par with good games of other NFL QBs. There comes a ceiling with Bryce that isn’t undeniable and that just isn’t what any team in the NFL longs for. He can be the QB next year, you just can’t pay him because we have to be looking for the actual future at the QB spot. he played a very good game for Bryce yesterday…..and every QB that played yesteray (and no one was great) generated more offense for their teams. And we got legit weapons. I don’t care where Coker was drafted. No one feels sorry for Stafford because Puca was a late pick. -
I'm always the "give them a chance guy" but XL is about done. Coker needs to be the permanent #2 and we should still add another pass catcher this off-season.
-
I agree. I think LB and Edge are the top priorities, with WR and S behind. I also think we might add a DT. I can't decide on Smith-Wade as the nickel, but a FS that can play some big nickel would be nice. In the grand scheme of things, our needs list has not been this short in a while. Some will insist that you add QB to this list, but realistically, that ain't happening so I will not mention it, but I think this is going to be a great draft to find talent at QB later--players once regarded as first rounders have fallen, for whatever reason. Beck, Allar, Mateer, Nussmeier, Klubnik, and my sleepers, Sawyer Robertson and Luke Altmyer (Altmyer especially). Get some young depth and insurance. The red rocket is a coach and Bryce's BFF. He can do that as the #3.

Yeah and when they knew we had to pass with the game on the line how did he look? -

If he had more fire he would be pretty comparable to Jake. Not the best QB around but you can win some games with him if you can run and play a little D. I know you guys like to slob all over Jake but the reality is he was never a great QB either, replacement level guy. -
Needless to say we aren't going to back our way into 5 wins again. On top of that. The division around us is undoubtedly improving. We definitely will not be able to sustain another year of the offense and specifically Bryce Young playing ugly football early in the season.
-
The ball was practically at his knees. If you consider that "in stride" and the best you can expect from our #1 pick then more power to you big guy.
