Former Panther kickers named Harrison
LinvilleGorge replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Looking at Wright's stats I'm kinda surprised why this guy has never stuck. He's an 87% FG kicker and he's 7/11 from 50+ with a 56 and two 59 yards. This guy beating out Fitzgerald doesn't seem like the end of the world. -
MVP is Slavin for every game we should have lost because he singlehandedly stopped several good chances by himself lol. If we don't have a different system in place next season which allows for more consistent threats of scoring, I've lost all hope. We're strong as hell defensively because of our system and the concept of wearing the opponent out until they make a mistake isn't a bad strategy to implement...it just can't be the only thing you do. The amount of cross crease passes that led to goals that Florida got on us and the fact that we seldom if ever get similar chances is telling.

I’m positive you have no problems with it. My post was about my own view of the situation. -

If you can hit from 60 and you're automatic, congrats you are a HOF kicker unless you become Justin Tugger. -
I'm on the Ryan Fitzgerald wagon.

Yeah, range only matters with consistency. It only takes a few wide rights on gimmies to make you long for the guy who is near automatic from inside 50 but that's about the end of his range. -

Knew he would but it still sucks. Really had hope the neck would heal better for him.

Yea give me the guy that can get 3 basically 100% of the time when a legit drive stalls out. I don't understand the moon shot kicker fixation. - Today

Oh lord, why would anyone miss Slye? Yeah, being able to lineup for a 60 harder is nice but not at the expense of 35 yards and XPs being nail biting affairs. If I had to choose between a big legged kicker with spotty accuracy or an accurate kicker with a limited leg I'm absolutely choosing the latter. At the end of the day, missing a long FG is basically the equivalent of a turnover. You're handing your opponent great field position. -

Good to see the Thiccer Kicker doing well. I prefer this type of kicker, instead of a guy like Eddy. I still miss Joey Slye. -

last year i think he sat out of camps waiting for a new deal that he never got so that probably put a bit of a stink in the relationship between him and the panthers. -

Exactly. He peaked in college as a non factor. -
Will history repeat itself and Carolina make it to NFCCG this year?

He was also bad last season when the line struggled, like against Dallas. People who say Bryce Young improved seem to ignore Bad Bryce returning in the Dallas game. So Bryce is gonna need a line to be good. -
Love this. We are investing in the second most important position + we are not taking the easy out with Moton and getting that out of the way now vs kicking it down the road

As long as we have Young as our QB the offensive line will have to be a strength. We saw how bad he looked his rookie year. Give Cam Newton this line and we win several Super Bowls. -

He isn't gonna break out. This is why taking an older, project player is goofy. -

JR, Hurney/Gettleman and Rivera really failed Cam with slightly-to-below average talent at the Tackle spots after Gross,Wharton and Oher left. Our Guards/Center were fine but we never seemed to have a premium starting 5 in front of him during his time here. Same with WR’s. We always seemed to give preference to the D when it came to adding talent. -

If he's gonna break out, he better do it quick. He'll be 27 this fall. -

Yeah, I think in Wright they basically see a Pinero replacement. Accurate, limited leg kicker but instead of a guy in Pinero who thinks he should be one of the highest paid kickers in the league you have a guy in Wright who would be absolutely thrilled just to have a job. Then you have Fitzgerald who they're hoping wins the job and is the long term solution. We'll see how it all plays out. Fitzgerald is Plan A and Wright is Plan B and I think everyone involved fully realizes this. -

I think he was an Evero type player. I suspect he was a guy that Evero asked for early on and is still one of "his" guys. Another in a long list of reasons why Evero will eventually have to be canned. -

TJ Watt put the final nail in the coffin while Cam was in the pocket, not running. It's easier to protect yourself if you know the hit is coming. I will always wonder how many Lombardis we would have now if we had given Cam some actual talent on offense.
