BREAKING: Panthers sign QB Kenny Pickett
frankw replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'm with you. We just have to wait and see how it unfolds. -
My guess on Phillips is 15 25 35 45 80m guaranteed breaking down as 30m signing bonus 2026&2027 base salary. 10m kicker in 2028 that guaranteed for injury but doesn't realize til 5th day of lgy.

BREAKING: Panthers sign QB Kenny Pickett
Jackie Lee replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think maybe they are finally starting to realize that the fans don't give a poo about how bad that trade was anymore and just want a good team? All that matters is winning. Pickett has more desire to play than Dalton and he can throw a better deep ball than Bryce and actually QB sneak, will light a fire under BY's butt. Hopefully they draft a day 3 guy or sign a udfa as well and have an actual training camp with quality reps for the whole room instead of coddling the guy that shouldn't need any more excuses at this point. -
I just thought that this was interesting, even if it seems like they're kinda throwing crap against the wall. They generally don't know which way to go--we'll go--based upon our needs relative to their assigned players' and general positional value. But during their three-round mock, they landed on 1. Omar Cooper 2. Eli Stowers 3. Jake Slaughter They weren't necessarily crazy about the picks, but think these are some good players. They said something to the effect that they thought making our picks would be easy, but the addition of our two new defensive cornerstones, now it's hard. Dan and the FO have really done a great job so far of putting us into a position of taking the BPA (not that their finished in free agency). I just think that it's interesting to ponder how positional value is going to play in our draft equation. Tillis, with his PFF background, may be going through similar mental exercises. You know me though. I'm not gonna cry over a receiver, especially a legit route runner, in the first. That would be three years in a row, which seems kinda weird, but perhaps not when you consider the current build of the team. I do think that we'll strongly consider OT in round one, but one that's worth it has to be available. As for LB or DT, it doesn't sound like they believe that the value will necessarily be there, especially LB since we've already committed so many resources to it. What do y'all think that we'll do? All this is subject to change before free agency ends. It's really a good time to be a Panthers fan.

Honestly that is still too much for one of the worst OT in the league. But this is where we're at based on the exorbitant amount we have invested in the OL. For anyone interested we are currently jostling with the Broncos for the highest paid OL in the league again for 2026 already. Based on cap % we are the highest. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/position/offensive-line/_/year/2026/table/active/sort/cap_total

Incoom was solely a special teams signing and will only play a meaningful D snap for us if we have terrible LB injury luck again. Gibson is a true LB depth signing and could be used more for blitzing purposes
-
Spot on for the most part but I don't get ppl that want a new TE.. TT is a good player he is fast for his size a damn good blocker and when thrown to catches the ball what more do ppl want? Sanders slimmed down to be the out wide TE so there is his role, plus the Panthers don't seem to use the TE as much in the pass game..
-
This is where I'm at. I thought he exceeded expectations mid-season, but kind of fell off. I actually liked him more than Incoom. Depth guy that could shine for a couple games here and there if he's feeling it.

FA Splash: Panthers sign Jaelan Phillips EDGE
PleaseCutStewart replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
What? The dude is coming off a pretty big injury last year + has been a constant source of drama for the Bengals the past few years. He is also Brian Burns-esque of he can only rush the passer and is awful against the run. I'll gladly take Phillips instead -
Goes hand in hand with the converted portion but not many know how NFL contracts work and get all bent out of shape when these get announced... (Even though a lot of them are built into the contract and happen automatically)
-
Panthers will bring back TE James Mitchell on a 1-year deal, league source said. Mitchell was a restricted FA.

#Panthers one year, $2M Stone Forsythe, $1.05M gtd, $500K signing bonus, salary $1.215M ($550K salary gtd), $15K per game active roster bonus, $1.25M playtime, team rankings incentive. Max APY: $3.25M

Guy is such a dog. I couldn't be more hype for this signing.
-
This. Restructuring a bum like XL would be infuriating. Restructuring a dude that is a dominant player is fine
-
Yeah, and it looks way worse because they have done literally the exact same thing like 3 or 4 other times in the past 10-15 years (honestly surprised the NFL hasn't put some type of rule in place because of it). Obviously not a player of this magnitude though when they did it in the past. Not sure it will have much of an impact on other teams willingness to trade with the Ravens, but it definitely has to hurt relations with agents and players seeking a new deal. Wouldn't be surprised to see players looking for that next contract to refuse a trade/willing to free agent sign with the Ravens

DB said get me some help -
Don't mind the deal. At times last year, I thought he looked good. Other games, he was a disaster. Pretty much what all of our LBs were last year. I thought he actually looked good as a pass rusher when we played the Rams in the playoffs. Was arguably one of our best players to get pressure in that playoff game

BREAKING: Panthers sign QB Kenny Pickett

They are absolutely still protecting Bryce. They are giving him one last shot before they close the door. I mean this kid has started all three of his first seasons in the league playing like one of the worst QB's in Panthers history. The issue is you can't rule out the Panthers decision makers seeing just enough from him to convince themselves he's worth an extension. If he needs to be carried in any way shape or form across the season for us to be competitive then he has to go. -
Who?

Some context: Brown had pre-approval of restructuring in his contract, I'm told. So, it was a simple mechanism to convert his salary into a bonus. This is common in most long-term contracts to my understanding. To be clear, he's just getting a bonus payout, no new cash. https://x.com/mike_e_kaye/status/2031758993149104167?s=46
