Like I said, yup. Corbett is a good player but it's that consistency thing... oft injured at that spot doesn't help. He'd make a heck of a back-up and swing guard, but not at the current salary. Mayes either has the chops now or he is developing into it. We need to get him to the regular starting spot before he gets to that free agent period and suddenly becomes to expensive to throw bucks at without knowing his true potential. But yeah, Centers are way, way undervalued. And I understand it. Good teams keep their centers under contract for a decade, they rarely end up on the free agency market and get little fanfare when they do. It's just not sexy I guess. But like a MLB or a punter, if you don't have a good one, you're fugged either now or soon.

No idea how TT would fare versus an OSU, but it would glorious if they won. Absolutely not a blueblood, and it's too bad Mike Leach isn't around to enjoy this run.

More from Person's latest Athletic story

Mayes might be the most natural center we have on the roster. I don't count Corbett anymore because he's hurt too much. Paradis was coming off major leg injury, we had Bozeman and that was horrific. I was told repeatedly by many on this board anyone could play center and we should focus resources elsewhere. It's been the Achilles heel of our line for a long while now. Finding the QB of our line needs to be a priority this offseason. -
It's actually fairly impressive that Alabama and Georgia are as successful as they are without any real NFL QB talent. I mean, I get that the rest of their roster is stacked and packed with NFL talent.
-
Brother, that is simply not true.

Acc is better than the big 12. Duke would give tech a better game than byu is
-
i don't know if Texas tech is good but they're clearly much better than byu

BYU having a full meltdown.

Miami and ND at home crying. Their chances are basically done. They need a BYU miracle. *My fault, I'm not half ass paying attention. It's a BYU win that would throw a monkey wrench.

This Bryce Guy (General BY Discussion)
Jay Roosevelt replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
Not a great comparison. You could likely enter every pro golf tournament for a decade and not demonstrate pro-caliber ability. Bryce has demonstrated that he is capable of playing QB in the NFL at a high level; he just hasn't demonstrated that he can do it consistently. -
I think we would really have to break the bank on him.
-
Honestly, the biggest issue I have with him is that he hasn't seemed to have been a guy that elevates a defense, even going back to Denver. So, if I always have to assemble an elite defense to make him have elite results....is he actually a great defensive coach?
-
He gone. I’ve grown into an Evero fan, and hope he stays.
-
I pounded on that drum for a long time and saw some really good centers move off to teams that ended up competing for championships. But what do I know? Between Corbett and Mays we've probably got a good center. But really, we need to pick a lane there and stick with it. Consistency at the Center position is THE most valuable trait.
-
Really. In what way?
-
Nice chunk of high level NFL prospects in this TT/BYU game, FWIW.

I have always liked Evero. you give this guy some actual talent on defense & this would be one of the best defenses in the NFL
-
Which was absurd as proven by his dominance. Its the draftniks that think the only good players are the rare rookie superstars
-
He sure was a big contributor to our win against Rams!! Sure would vote him a Game Ball!!

Derrick Brown appreciation thread.

Exactly. This last offseason Dan said that adding dudes that ‘loved playing football’ was the priority, and that’s just not who XL is. I don’t see the team patiently waiting for the bulb to come on. -
