Coaches can't mentor, they coach, they are two entirely different things, and your coaches can also only do so many things at one time. When they're running a drill, the vets are pulling the young guys aside after their reps and giving tips while waiting for the drill to reset. You do also realize that for the most part, players are only around the coaches in the film room and on the field, coaches aren't in the locker room other than just before the game and at half. That's another place someone like Thielen shines, he's always been a pro's pro, he's going to take these young WRs under his wing and team them how you go about being an NFL player. That's not stuff coaches do, you NEED the vets for it and Thielen has embraced the role. When you have a guy who made his career on doing the little things right, and he is willing to be that vet mentor to a group of young WRs in their 1st or 2nd year that you hope to be your future 1-4, then he's worth every penny we're giving him this year.

Why in Minnesota? That's bizarre. Not like we have a vet WR who played his college ball and the majority of his NFL ball in Minnesota that a few room temperature IQ Panthers fans want to poo on who was obviously brought in every bit as much to mentor young WRs as much as he was to play who has still managed to put up decent numbers in awful offenses in the twilight of his career. Anyone who thinks the Panthers haven't gotten everything out of Thielen that they signed up for shouldn't be taken seriously.

Saw this on the news. Michael Vollman plays pro hockey in Switzerland, wants to build an arena and bring minor league hockey here.

CMC even said he was surprised that he was actually traded but the huddle huddles and most people read one thread and believe everything they read. Case in point. Unbelievable how consistently the made up BS continues to swirl back around. GMs liked IRing players as soon as we were no longer in contention. Cam sat the last couple weeks in 2016 but no one says he quit. I remember CMC’s last game against Miami. He didn’t even look hurt during the game but we were out of it and we benched him again. Especially at a position like RB, no need to risk injury. Clearly. Fitterer saw him as trade bait the next season so of course they won’t risk him going for last place.

It's rather absurd that the rookie contracts aren't fully guaranteed for at least the top 3 rounds. -
Me and you clearly have different definitions of production. If you remove the 2023 season where Thielen had just over 1k yards he is 43rd on our all time receivers list just ahead of Jonathan Mingo. And before you ask why would we remove that season? Well a couple reasons. For one thing we won a whopping 2 games. And for the biggest. Thielen was 14th in targets in 2023. We absolutely force fed him the ball all season and finished with the 32nd passing offense. For comparison sake 33 year old Jerricho Cotchery eclipsed over 1k total yards in just 2 more games and with 67 less targets than Thielen did in that 2023 season. He has above average hands. That's it. We overpaid him because we were desperate and overvalued him. That's the reality no matter how many times you or anyone else wants to quote me and get defensive about it.

He's played great and it was a win-win (rare free agent) for both parties. One of the points is he hasn't made enough difference to "waste" 35 million on. Another point is by the time Panthers are hitting their prime, he would have taken snaps away from young WRs/TEs/RBs. "Thus" in the long term, hurting the teams new future "window." But I dare think of the monkey poo of a offense the Panthers had without him the past 2 years. Lack of talent leads to many problems, including paying a 35 year old to be somewhat respectable. Hes one of few that cared enough and made a effort. Plus you know he's done great stuff in many other ways for the team, community juggernaut, leadership, etc. Judgement is for AT and his 3 year panther career!!

But it has gotten a little wacky. RBs-https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/contracts/_/position/rb A couple months ago iggles made Bark the highest guaranteed RB, jeanty was until then. That's what matters the guarantee. A rookie never played a down was the leader, until iggles howie made things right. If a safety gets drafted in the top 8 or so, he would have the highest money too or very close to it. Add in TEs and C too. Even with the fixed %, the numbers are getting too much for a player that's not proven themselves. Plus anytime a QB is drafted it screws up the contracts for players around and if next year a punter gets drafted at the same 90th spot, they want the same contract with the 5.7% increase. Teams would be laughing. Its just reached this point. Another 10 years and I bet the vets will be crying. - Yesterday

It's 8 million over 4 years.... I'd bend a knee... there are much worse FA contracts being handed out. Gives teams more incentive to draft well. The Browns and Texans basically screwed the rest of the league. Someone may want to tell that commie Jimmy Haslam to stop with all this guaranteed money. If he keeps this up the NFL is going to be screwed. -
You forgot the goat: He Hate Me.

Nothing they can really do. The rookie wage scale is based on the salary cap as negotiated in the CBA. They’d need to sign a new CBA to make changes. And like I said, the money can’t really get out of hand. It’s a set percentage based on the current year’s salary cap. If the salary cap increases the rookie scale will reflect that increase. The only real negotiation points the rookies have are guaranteed money and the off-set language in the contract. The numbers are set. -
I kind of dig the ‘nobody but a few’ jobs are safe approach that Dan has employed. Everyone needs to watch their back. No more feel good stories.

Honestly Frank is right if you view AT in a certain way. He's not apart of the future and Panthers won 2 and 5, correct? Did it matter if AT was on the field or not? Plus in a way he does hinder young WR with taking snaps. He is getting paid very well for 34-35 year olds, not many teams, maybe no other teams would give that much. Its the classic both sides have key points. I was of the opinion to cut him and didn't care for the og contract, but they traded DJ Moore...I thought Clark was going do what AT did, nope! Just to add if 2021 hunter is back and he's on a min deal, would you rather have AT@ 9million or hunter@ 1mill?

No receiver on this team, or any player for that matter, should get reps just because they need the reps. They want the reps? Beat the dudes out in front of them. Bust ass in practice and make fewer mistakes than everyone else. if this team is serious about competing with other teams, they should be serious about competing amongst themselves. Want it? Take it. If Adam really is that bad, he should be a piece of cake to outshine, right?

I'm glad you're wowed with winning the shortest midget contest. But some people have higher aspirations. Blaming him for what? Not wanting to pay him 9 million a season to be borderline mid at best is not blaming him for anything. It's a simple acknowledgement that we settled and going forward we need to cut that out and actually develop talent along the whole offense.
