Is Tepper going to clean the house again after this season?
AceMan replied to Lame Duck's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think if everything continues to be mostly the fault of the Coach + surrounding talent (Offense and Defense) and not on Bryce; you got to clean house. I only think Tepper will do it if we are like 1-13 going into our bye week though. -

I don't think we really need to go that long. I'd rather see if the third QB on our roster could be a backup or something. Highly unlikely he'll bring us any wins. So let's send Bryce packing if things continue to stink this bad. We need a real QB to find out about Coker/XL. Tet seems set as a good to great WR. But I get what you're saying too. Id just rather not check out of another Panthers season at game 2. -

I'm not trying to blame him I'm just saying he probably regrets not being very aggressive about it -

It wouldn't have taken much to upgrade at the #2 spot. They took the jobs under those conditions, whatever they really are now. Poop rolls downhill and it's a messy process. That's an area you push to sneak 1 guy into the roster while admiting Dalton is washed and a bad setup in these conditions. Whats he going to do fire them, pay them regardless and probably improve their value by being proven right in the end? -

I think it would have to go true dumpster fire for us to clean house. Week One was pretty alarming. All the talk of how different and improved the team was only to come out and look like utter garbage is not going to win anyone over. I like that there's synergy between HC and GM, but there also has to be results. We're not seeing the results. The NFL is a result oriented business. Now, if the team plays a lot better in the coming weeks, great. But let's see it first. I think that Canales should start to see the hand moving towards the seat heater clearly. -

Canales is the head coach. He can dictate who to play. None of this consensus nonsense. -

I mean I agree with you but I don't think it's on Canales. We don't know what he asked for in the offseason and I haven't heard him say he didn't want competition at the QB spot. From what I can see from this franchise, it's Tepper who wants the QB coddled. Every year the starting QB is unchallenged. -

I'm fine with explaining away a few bad plays from a player because the opposing team makes a good play / playcall. Or even saying the real failure on a given play was not the QB but the wrong route etc. But man, it's Bryce's third year and I expected better than this. Just tired of the inconsistency within (and between) games. Everything has to be perfect for him to play consistently well. -

Hey, hands up. Not defending Canales or how he coached Sunday. If he gets fired this year, whatever. I just remember how the offense looked before Daltons body forgot how to play football. -

Yeah, I acknowledged as much above. I'm just saying Canales probably regrets not being very forceful with a push to upgrade the spot. He should've went to Tepper and just been like "Look, I know Bryce played better after coming back from the benching but at the same time we gotta protect ourselves here and have a better option behind him if he reverts back to his old ways. At this point in his career Dalton is simply not it. We need to look for a backup who can actually PLAY if we need it. Going into his third season Bryce doesn't need a mentor with a clipboard anymore. We need a PLAYER there." -

I don't think they planned on the outcome that season at the time. You are also assuming the FO was competent enough at the time to know what they were doing. -

Bryce threw that ball into the luxury boxes. Maybe he was trying to hit the fan Tepper dumped water on -
I don't know what is worse, using clearly bad PFF takes from week 1.....or the even more comical (hard to do) fantasy takes form some random on twitter guy who awards horrific throws by Bryce as...unseen yards lol. I can deep dive stats and cherry pick stuff to make any player I want good or bad. That's the world we are living in now. It's just lying at this point.

While I am hoping like crazy for Bryce to lead the Panthers to sustained success, the proof isn't there right now. Did he make some good throws Sunday? Yes. Did he make some bad throws? Yes. Did XL (and others)let him down? Yes. Did he make some stupid decisions? Yes. Bryce wasn't good Bryce, and the team was pretty poopy. Now the PFF grades...I don't know much about analytical math. OK - but my eyes saw a team that wasn't prepared to play, not just a QB. If we're going to count drops at competitions and missed yards as actual yards...Then I'm the king of England!? Right?

You are right. Even if Canales gets fired this season I am okay with it. New coach would likely get to choose his rookie QB and we would hopefully do the restart properly. -

They won 4 games last year and they're on the first year of a new coach. They have way more money tied up in their underachieving QB, and have less money to build the roster. Dan had at least a 1 year head start, and even more if you count his time with Fitterer. There's no reason DC should have been so thoroughly out coached. And there's no excuse for our team being the worst in the NFL. -

So keep a bad coach for a pick, then have a historically bad year on that side and bring him back for year 3 with too much control for a draft pick that's never coming? They should have fired him this offseason when it became apparent he wasn't close to getting a HC let alone another DC job... -

I mean was this Canales's decision? Did he say he didn't want to try to upgrade the backup position? It seems to be a trait of the organization to not have QB competition the only notable exception being the 2022 season which had a farce competition between Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold which seems like the best QB room the Panthers have had in many years in retrospect. -

LinvilleGorge replied to Jmac's topic in Carolina Panthers
I honestly don't know how much of it was on them and how much Tepper may have been involved. I'm sure after Bryce came back and looked decent last year Tepper was probably all in again. Not sure if he was willing to allow a legit backup that might actually push Bryce or if he was wanting to stick with a mentor holding a clipboard as backup. I really wish we'd made a move for Howell with him getting traded for peanuts. This wouldn't been a good opportunity for him to get another shot starting because I'm not sure he's long for the league as a backup. I just don't think he has a backup's mentality. -
I'm shocked they got divorced

Eh it's similar but it's not. The Jaguars won 9 games in both 2022 and 2023. The Jaguars no doubt have a better roster. -
