Backup QB Option?
LinvilleGorge replied to Move the Panthers to Raleigh's topic in Carolina Panthers
And that list is going to include guys like Kirk Cousins who were paid to be starters, they're not backups by design the plan just didn't work out. -
9th highest paid backup QB for 2025.

Backup QB Option?
LinvilleGorge replied to Move the Panthers to Raleigh's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'd be good with freeing up some of that cap space. Dalton is being paid like a top tier backup and I think he was when we initially signed him but it sure looks like Father Time has caught him and is really giving him the business down there these days. -
Rustling huddle jimmies on a Friday night eh? In all seriousness I would prefer not to go backward. But Andy Dalton is unequivocally not it. So it should be a priority to at least attempt to upgrade Jack Plummer.

Who is this we? I'm good with Dalton

Ummm except for PFF Deff top ten -
The ability to get better, The team as it is is better than everyone else in the East.... making moves that dont move the needle towards the goal is pointless

Move the Panthers to Raleigh started following Backup QB Option?

We're all thinking it, so I'll just go ahead and say it: Bring back PJ?! He's up in Canada on a two-year deal, but I think it would be a cheap buy-out. Time to put some respek back on PJ's illustrious career here in Carolina

I don't understand either; especially since it seems like he's a natural Free Safety - Today

Enough of this fuging talk, just go 2-2 or better going into week 5 and go from there. Lets not be completely out of it before the season even gets under way. 2-2 is easily doable with this schedule and keeps us on solid ground heading into our beefier part of the season. Lets get some momentum and stop playing behind the 8 ball. -

Yeah, Rozeboom is alright if he's your worst LB out there but if you're counting on him being the best... oh wee mayne -
I’d guess the rookie’s success last year is bleeding into this year’s projections.

Yeah at LB, I like Wallace's potential (big year for him), but if he still has some growing pains, we absolutely cannot have crap next to him. From what I gather, the Rams didn't hate Rozeboom, but once some talent went down and he didn't have better talent assisting, he was pretty badly exposed. He's an alright LB for depth, but not a starting quality LB. You gotta see what Wallace can do year 2, but on Rozeboom's side, I think we really need to look at cut season or maybe a trade. -
The catches from the practice film with the Texans look more like he did his senior year in college. He was very good at catching with his hands and high pointing the ball. I hope that last year he may have just been adjusting and been in his head a little bit.

I agree with this. Does everyone remember last year when someone would have a massive pass play against us 3-4 times each game? we had multiple busted coverages every Sunday. I’d rather have Scott get beat than have free runners with nobody around them. That being said, hopefully eventually it’s a more talented guy back there who also knows all the calls -

From camp reports by the Athletic, Robert Mays said it looks like we're expanding the run calls this year. So it sounds like Canales had a bit of a slow roll with his system. He was doing the same at Tampa but then their OL got depleted midseason in 2023 and he had to stay a bit vanilla in the run game. They know they can't stay vanilla much longer. -

Hopefully the rest of the league is as high on our fringe of the roster WRs as we seem to be and hopefully there's a team out there with a need at WR and a similar position with their LBs and we can work out a swap. I'm not saying we're getting a major impact player out of it but basically get a guy who was maybe going to snag a spot on a deep roster or at least essentially skip to the very front of the line on the waiver wire giving up a player that we may have end up having to cut anyway. -
You won't get respect if you're forgetful and suck for this long. Time for the team to change the narrative this year.

Yeah agree. I'm looking forward to the season. No real set win expectation but I just want these guys to get their sh*t together and beat some good teams. Joke seasons are over, it's time for them to stop embarrassing themselves and Charlotte. Time to prove we're not cellar dwellers anymore. Who knows, maybe we do end up surprising. We've seen quick turnarounds like WAS and HOU. Maybe we can finally figure it out. -

Both safeties need that in the Fangio-disciple system because of how they play off each other and how we disguise roles snap-to-snap. Both safeties need to be able to take in the call and assignment as we're trying to disguise and interchange when someone drops, runs a delayed blitz, etc. Make a QB think we're in cover 2 when it's 3 post-snap. There's a lot that goes to it on a snap-to-snap basis so I think it's understandable with Scott (to a certain point). To me- This staff doesn't seem stubborn, I think they'll recognize when it is worth putting Ransam in. -

On the one hand, I get it. On the other hand, you gotta find someone who can do that while also holding their own after the ball is snapped. Nick Scott may be smart and he may really help get others in the right place pre-snap but he instantly becomes a liability as soon as the ball is snapped and it's go time. -
Also, only 12 RBs even crossed 1000 yards last season. Its a still a big deal, especially as the bell-cow RB is becoming more rare. I agree with your point about opportunities to a certain extent, but the reason both these guys got those opportunities was bc they were good and both excelled at yards after contact. So, it kind of a chicken or the egg argument. Still, there ain't 50 guys guys thay could do that. Maybe 20-25. The math dont math. Anyway, im excited about Hubbard & Dowdle and think we are going to have a good running game again this year.
-
It sure as fug isn't 28th. And, all the advanced metrics show Hubbard & Dowdle were pretty special last year. Other than D-Will & J-Stew or prime CMC, by historical standards this is a solid duo. Go back and watch the film from last year. I guarantee you the goober who ranked us 28th didnt watch a single game last year. PFF ranked us much higher. Not that PFF is perfect, but there's an actual methodology there and not just some national "expert" who is rightfully going to be replaced with AI over the next few years. If we are not a top 10 rushing team, I will be disappointed. We were like 11th last year. On one hand I don't give a single poo what ESPN has to say (they will be irrelevant in 10 years too), but this is lazy nonsense.
