I have looked at this Lloyd thing a little sideways since I learned the Jags didn’t pick up the 5th year. But I haven’t looked at film of him or anything. It doesn’t much matter what I see, they have not listened to me once in 30 years. I see these little warning signs, as no joke. Someone needs to dig into the why of all that and I can only hope we have.

Yep ^^^ It's also why if we overpay for 2 vets in Lloyd and Edmunds, I don't know if it really works well together. Coverage is a big weakness for them both and that's a load of dough where you can get similar value for a bit less. You also create a legit weak spot for our defense while bringing these guys on to monster deals. Doesn't make for good team building. Hope its just 1 if we do what so many reporters are claiming. Need a coverage/balanced offballer via draft that good in this respect (Allen, Lawson). It should honestly slide a guy like Rodriguez/Trotter off our board.

I think quality ILB play would put this defense in a much better place. I don’t want to see what we have been forced to see the last couple of years. Will it be the Steel Curtain or something? Course not. It won’t be our 2003 team. But it will be a legit defense.

Brutal last couple games AND pretty much all the teams that matter to our seeding are winning and playing incredibly well too. Things can change but it's seeming more and more likely we'll have quite a hill to climb in the play-in. Not sure we get a 7 or 8 seed. Schedule gets tougher for us too. My goal for the season at this point is finish with a winning record. If we can't win 2 road play-in games to make the real playoffs, so be it, I'll take a higher draft pick in a stacked draft. But hopefully we can get in the playoffs and get that experience. I just won't consider it a failure if we don't but have a winning record, maybe win a play-in game.

Yep Lloyd is going to a minimum of 20 million per and that’s an absolute disaster of a contract to sign up for Jags were often taking him off the field on obvious passing downs on 3rd down. Not a lot of games where he plays even 90% of the snaps A big reason his cover score on PFF is so high because he often would go take the RB in the flats on 1st and 2nd down If you’re paying a linebacker 20+ mill he sure as hell better be able to cover downfield and based on the Jags deployment of him that doesn’t seem to be the case

LB is going to take some time and we are going to have to plug in draft picks too. Lloyd is a tempting piece but I feel like we are expecting him to save the entire unit and we've already learned the hard way things don't always work out like that. He isn't a bad player. But logic and our experience as a franchise dictates It will probably end up somewhere in the middle. But that to me is not worth an overpay with all the needs we have. However if he becomes a Panther I will hope for the best and support him until he gives me a reason not to.

There are things to be optimistic about certainly but there are also things that we should absolutely be as realistic as possible about to avoid setting ourselves up for heartbreak. As far as right now I say talk to me after the draft. We can chase all the free agents we want. Drafting well is the only way back to relevance and legitimate competition for the playoffs and beyond.

Yep. What Mr C said. We have alignment. I guess at 8 taking true BPA made a lot of sense. It is unlikely that we’ll be looking at the same gap between need and BPA at 19. Be a little easier to pass and trade down and match our value to our needs. IMO. I care very little about having a shiny 1st round TE, give me a tackle or help the defense.

I’ll gladly admit if/when I’m wrong, but I don’t mind calling out the constant negativity. A select few in here are so consistently pessimistic, you’d think they were trolling fans of rival teams. We’re young in key areas and won our division. Made the playoffs in Dave & Dans second year getting after it. It seems we’re building it the right way. Just tired of seeing all of the complaining. Find something to get excited about with the franchise. There are plenty of options to choose from at the moment.

IMO there are only a handful of top tier players in this draft. But the 2nd tier is really really strong. So a trade back to me is preferred as again IMO you are getting the same quality player at 19 as you would in the top half of the 2nd. We can hopefully get a another pick and maybe someone is stupid enough give us a 27 first.
