Not playing him down the stretch in lost seasons when he was coming off injury was also honestly the right move.
-
Does anyone know anyone else that thinks he is an MVP candidate in line with quarterbacks? Honestly the only reason he is in these conversations is because he has literal Stan's in the media sphere. How many playoff games now have they lost by double digits with him? They even had to create an all purpose yards category to get him in an All Pro slot. Comical.
-
It's nice having teams other than ours look so dysfunctional for a change.
-
Fair. throw in the rumors of him not wanting to play even to he was cleared by the team doctors… I dont think he wanted to be a panther.
-
Trading him was honestly the right move. We needed draft assets to build around at that point much more than we needed a huge money RB that had missed a bunch of games the previous two seasons. That we did a ton of terrible drafting for years on end is totally different conversation.
-
Surely, we got an unbelievable haul of picks for him, and then smartly turned those picks into superstars.

It has been going on for years. Many years. Long time coming to reach the depths of bad form these players put on display weekly in the NFL. It started, as I recall, with the shoulder hit, trying to be a missile and just knock the guy down. Once the Peanut Punch became popular it just got worse. Between all the failed punches and the shoulder hits it is just bad. The league isn’t helping with you can’t hit high, you can’t hit low rules they like to impose. And they don’t come to the league anymore with their fundamentals established, I don’t think. NFL really really needs a minor league for player development.

Some people have carried water for so long I think they just don't know what else to do. Fascinating.

I have been just gobsmacked by how bad tackling has become on this team, and honestly, league-wide. Everyone wants that Sports Center kill shot shoulder block or the Peanut punch attempt. Just give me Luke, TD or Shaq getting a solid tackle and bringing the ball carrier down right that moment. This is why you need linebackers leading the defense and setting the tone.

That is his M.O. for the first two years. Has players identified and makes his pitch when things kick off. Wish we could have scored Williams last year but understand why we didn’t. He sets his sights high though. -
Replace an earnest but fairly empty head with a head case may not be the best solution. I am gunshy of guys with attitudes that allow them to miss meetings and stuff like that. You just don’t want them around. Or, I don’t anyway. If we want value out of Legette we gotta rehab him this offseason, get him looking better before that trade deadline. If that’s possible. As he is, what the hell could you really get for him? Our top two offensive coaches have WR coaching in their background, they should be able to improve him.

Except we never take Clemson players-- but this year I think we break that rule. Especially since our run on Gamecocks is not going well.

"The one other noteworthy thing PFF analyst Mark Chichester pointed out was that Corey Thornton, in limited action, was third among rookie cornerbacks with a 68.6 PFF grade." I need to see more of this guy. From what I've seen so far he could end up taking the nickel spot ahead of CSW.

My ideal scenario is Quay Walker (LB) from Green Bay and Jaelan Phillips (rush end) from Eagles. I think Dan will be hyper aggressive and fill these two roles on day 1. -
The value is in round 2. Good call. I think we are going OT in round 1, unless the top 3, maybe 4 are gone.

I’m just not impressed with these hires/openings

If he had been on the market at the start of this he may have been the highest rated candidate out there. 12 years younger than Harbaugh. Turned Buffalo around very quickly. I think he is a great fit for Pittsburgh. People say he is too old but I think they don’t realize he is 51 not pushing 60. He has been in the game a long time, got an early start though. He could give them well over ten years of service. Easily. The firing may light a fire under his ass too. He’ll likely self scout and find stuff to improve and will be motivated. -

I’m very intrigued by TJ Parker. Had a just ok year after two outstanding years. Still really young. Felt like the whole Clemson team was off this year. He could be a very good pick for us in the first round.
-
One of my favorite things are people jumping for joy saying Bryce is less bad than Stroud. Nothing about Bryce being good, just that Stroud was even worse this year… We all have a different expectations I guess…
-
I don’t remember Ealy’s age but Scourton is very young. Which is really encouraging. So much headroom left before he really matures and tops out. Potentially.
-
LOL I haven't heard that name in a long time!
-
Yeah nobody ever really knows how much of a player ultimately being a success is scouting vs development/coaching. It's always a mix and you need both, and both need to be aligned as players you scout could fit in one coach's system but not fit in others. That's why you need coaching staff and front office to be in lock step.

Except, there is no starter tier money that goes that low, that it qualifies as a good price on a backup. The guys with the big deals probably make 8-12 times or maybe even more than what their backups make. 33 mil or whatever per year, that is still multiples of what the highest paid backups make. 4-8 million is common with a couple of higher exceptions out there. Okay I looked. The highest guys I see that are backups are topping out at around 7 mil. Lots are down in the 4 range. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/rankings/player/_/year/2026/position/qb/sort/contract_average People don’t think Bryce would accept 30-33 million per year extension. So I guess even the 5th year option price of 26.5 is way too low. That’s like 6 times what Dalton s getting. 4mil. Several guys are right there with him. Gotta think his WAR would be higher in a more productive passing offense.
-
Yeah, I wouldn't mind rolling the dice on him on day three. No doubting his talent. He's not a guy you want to play early on in his career but those guys go in the 1st round.
-
Yeah I'm super excited about Scourton. I'm just holding back my excitement a bit as I was also incredibly excited about Kony Ealy and that came back to bite me. Hence why I'm "nearly sold" but not "completely sold."
