FMIA: Tanking shouldn’t be a dirty word
DaveThePanther2008 replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
You know I turn on the TV to watch our team. Thinking here we go again with another loss but as watch Burns get a sack, Jackson making tackle after tackle, PJ making a good throw for a first down. I cannot help cheering them on. I want us to win, IDGAF about draft position. We'll deal with it when the season is over. Many hate Fitterer but I believe now that the Fhule is gone. Fttterer is going to get us some good talent. Somewhere out there is a QB like Zappe that everyone overlooks and becomes a star. (not saying Zappe is a star yet but he's better than some of the picks ahead of him) I would like a QB if, and only if, our GM feels he's better than what we already have on our roster. If our scouting team, Morgan and Fitterer believe that the QBs available at our position are overrated, I'd rather get a young interior lineman or a complete receiver and address the QB when the value is there. -

So, 2003 meant nothing to you. Rodney Peete was our starting QB with an NFL-Europe/ New Orleans Saint backup. With your philosophy we should have just starting tanking the season right there and then so 2004 we could draft a QB. We found a gem in Jake who for several seasons guided us to some pretty exciting football. Even though we never made it to the Super Bowl after his initial season we had fun pulling for the Panthers. I'm not a professional football player but I've played enough sports to know teammates don't give up because some silly fans want a higher draft pick. Actually I won't. If the Panthers play well and we're not an embarrassment, I'm good. Tell me, 100% that one of these QBs in this draft is going to be a franchise QB that can lead us to a championship. If you truly believe this, you're kidding yourself. -

Seems we did ok without him. Sometimes you get addition thru subtraction. I loved CMC and hated to see him go but our offense looked the best we've every had this season. -

KEY WORDS PANTHER FAN You're not a player. Players don't play to lose. Everyone in that locker room is going to fight to get better. We'll face the draft after the season and go from there. -
100% Troll 100% prick I hope that is enough for a permanent ban.
-
Some opted out, especially the ones in the Super Bowl. Game was boring but they have a replacement events that sound like it will be fun to watch,

The actual game will go away but the selection to the team will still happen.

Panthers are one game out of first place in the NFCS
DaveThePanther2008 replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
I've said it over and over. Tanking is a Fan term not a term players know or use. We have the best defense in the NFCS. If we can get some solid offensive play we can beat anyone. Wilks has this team believing they can compete. Next week will show whether we are turning the corner or just pulled off an emotional win. -
Tua got away with zero picks but should have had 4. Pickett made some great throws and 2x when they needed it the most he made a boneheaded play. Rookie mistakes but he looks to be a solid QB.
-
I think his play this year has been stellar. He's showing up on leader boards for his play. Do you think he's on a path to a Pro Bowl nod?
-
LOL true. He had some good runs today as did Foreman.
-
Yeah, I think you're right. Lance didn't look so good before he got hurt. It will be a great thing if Jimmy G walks after this year and SF ends up with Kaepernick 2.0
-
I can only assume that he did but Rhule wouldn't listen to anyone. It seems to be quite obvious that Rhule was going to play who he wanted to play. Part of being a center is knowing how to make adjustment on the fly. Elf might have been adequate in blocking but it appears the Bozeman is a superior Center just because he understands the calls on our offensive line. Hopefully, Fitterer will resign him to a longer deal and apologize for the first part of this season.
-
I hope he continues to get more looks. He was my favorite coming out of camp last year and was just baffled he didn't see much time. Tremble had a nice catch too. Though it was his only pass throw to him. It's going to ruin the Fitterer haters too if Marshall, Tremble and Hubbard start to ball out and join Horn and Christensen as good picks.
-
So I assume you want to lose out so we can get that "Franchise QB" that we are so longing for? The hell with playing to win, working hard to get better. It's all about that mystic Super Bowl winning QB. I want a QB that can be a 10 to 15 year starter as much as you but, I cannot support nor believe a franchise, Carolina or anyone else tanking for a draft pick.

Foreman/Hubbard combo ain't too damn bad.
DaveThePanther2008 replied to YourLastThought's topic in Carolina Panthers
True If we can run the ball, which is McAdoo forte, it takes a ton of pressure off the QB. PJ looked so much better we'll see how thing go next week. -

Is it a coincidence or Bozeman makes our offensive line that much better. -
I cannot remember when our defense was this smothering. First half 4 punts and end of half. Brady was stymied all day. Even without Horn we controlled their passing game and our defensive line controlled the running game. It was a brilliant game plan and maybe made Brady consider retirement. LOL Great Job Coach Holcomb

Could someone give PJ some credit please?
DaveThePanther2008 replied to YourLastThought's topic in Carolina Panthers
He did well today, no major mistakes. A couple of really bad throws but over a good day for him. He can thank that offensive line who gave him time to throw and open running lanes for our RBs. PJ 3-1 career LOL -
I would rather be a homer and hope each game we play well than to be Mr Tank every season so we can get your favorite College player. I've been a member of this forum for most of its existence and many that are with me are always pulling for a win regardless of record. Can't you enjoy the day. We beat the hated Bucs.
-
If you're pissed off because we ruined your dream of the first pick. Please pick another team to cheer for. The Panthers didn't just win this game. The DOMINATED THE BUCS. Our defense is legitimate top 10 and will keep us in games. WAY TO GO PANTHERS

Matt Corral our 2023 starter
DaveThePanther2008 replied to Panthers Fan 69's topic in Carolina Panthers
This has been my point all along. Many coaches, GM and even owners have said. Once you hit camp your draft status means nothing. Corral is expected to miss OTA, and minicamps. They don't do a bunch of hitting there anyhow. It's not impossible for Corral to be ready to compete in August when Camp starts. Uphill battle, no doubt, impossible I don't think so. -
Many don't like Fitterer but it's hard to tell when Rhule had his finger on the draft especially 2021. Marshall seems to be a Brady pick because he played at LSU. I'm not 100% convinced he can't still be a good pick. However, we did get two solid picks in Horn and Christensen. Icky was a solid pick and we didn't miss on him. Corral is a complete unknown which really sucks because we are forced to take a QB in this draft. I still have high hopes Brandon Smith comes around. He has shown he's got so skills. That said, if we somehow obtain multiple 1st round picks we need to hit 100% on each of them. If the value is not there for our needs, trade down or trade for 2024.
-
@rayzor His idea is to gut the team now including Horn and Moore. If you get picks this year you can trade those picks for picks next year while also gaining capital this year. I personally don't want to see any more of our talent traded away but if you are going to trade Burns than we are in full rebuild mode and accumulating picks will be the draw for a new head coach.
-
Makes sense. The more picks in 2023 the better. I'm not talking rounds 4-7. I am talking rounds 1-3. These are the rounds where you can get starter talent. I am in agreement with a couple of the other posters. If Philly is in the Burns sweepstakes than their two first round picks puts them at the head of the line. The other players you mentioned we MUST get good value for them. I don't want to see DJ or Horn go for any less than what we drafted them plus some. Moore and Horn are 1st rounders. I want 1st rounders and at minimum one additional day 2 pick. If you are going to gut this team and rebuild. Than, I would like most of those picks this year and some next. Just imagining our own 1st, Philly's two 1st, two additional 1st for Horn and DJ. That's 5 first rounders. Currently two 2nds, three 3rds (Horn and DJ) and our lower round picks. You could take a couple of those 1st rounders, trade down for even more picks. We would make a huge haul as long as Fitterer doesn't pull a Hurney with the 2nd rounders. That said we would be looking at another losing season in 2023 only because we have so many inexperienced players but going into 2024. Watch out.
