Quinn had an ace QB, a HoF receiver, decent running game, fair to better line work, a defense that was at least a decent speed bump. He couldn't compete in the NFCSouth and against the rest of the league. His team just basically quit on him. He's an excellent DC. That's a very valuable thing. He should stay at that level and just be great.

I understand. I hope you understand my reluctance about it. Our pro personnel pick-ups during the season (definitely during Morgan's tenure) have been better than those before his arrival. Abdullah has been excellent. Gilmore has been as well. We've rotated through kickers like crazy, managing to get a decent one in Gonzalez and possibly one in Hajrullahu. And Edwards has been a good replacement for Charlton. That's probably more special teams flexing than most managers have to do in a season. Maybe Morgan is worth the salt, but I just keep looking at Fitt's choices brought before Rhule and think there's just a lot lacking in them, both draftees and vets. And let's face it, there's not another batch of Temple and Baylor guys out there to sift through again. I'd be happy to retain Morgan, and if Fitt gets another season that's what it is, and it could be bearable without Rhule. But there's always that scary look-into-the-Abyss moment when we have to consider that we may roll into the 2022 season with the same staff in place across the board. Woof.

I do understand what you're getting at here. And you make a good point. My problem is that in the preseason and draft time, Fitterer made such a big deal out of "being in on every deal" and working hard to make trades and get more draft capital for the team. And then the results of his labors hit the field like a half-baked loaf of bread: soft, doughy and completely unable to rise to the occasion. Yes, Fitterer may have been saddled with Rhule's guidance, but when he ran out there to get resources, he just didn't get much that was any good. Reddick was good to great, and Gilmore was a potentially a short-term rental that may be gone with free agency. They didn't balance out that offensive line, the Robby Anderson extension and nowhere near the Sam Darnold debacle. He hit on an Edge rusher (who played stout in the run game, too) and on at least one of what 12 defensive backs? I just don't think his talent evaluation is that good when it comes to free agents. His contract negotiations so far include Anderson and picking up Darnold's fifth year before the kid had ever thrown a meaningful pass for us. And draft? We can go into how many top linemen and QBs he passed on. Did he make those decisions or did Rhule? We'll never know, but just like getting stuck in a bad group project, a failing grade paints the whole group, not just the guilty parties. I think we need a clean slate. And someone get Luke back before he signs on as the DC at Buffalo.

We'll be fielding a team the likes of which haven't been seen since the Scab teams of the 1987 strike. On the good side, our coaches are good to go, so they'll be up to par with the talent on the field.

Matt Rhule says Darnold will start Sunday

Nothing surprises me anymore. -
Trade down, best QB available and the rest Oline..

Does it really matter where we draft if we still can't evaluate talent? -
Joe Judge, just Matt Rhule with a couple of days wait.

Does it really matter? It's not like he can be fired from ownership of the team. Heck, Washington's owner is accused of doing much, much more than Richardson did and no one is moving to remove him and force a sale. If anything, it makes the Richardson sale of the Panthers look a bit contrived, a way for Richardson to sell out without making a mess out of minority partners or perhaps a suit from his heirs to rest control of the team. In the end, I don't think Tepper has made many right decisions here. He seems more interested in investing money into the team, the amenities, the surrounding areas to those amenities and a frikkin' soccer team. What he isn't investing, it appears, is much time or intellect into understanding the fan base or professional football. In short, he's a modern billionaire... he knows how to reap profits, but doesn't really care about planting the seeds for tomorrow's harvest.

We couldn't beat Baylor right now.

NFL Team Tiers by EPA/play over the last 5 weeks
Khyber53 replied to Sean Payton's Vicodin's topic in Carolina Panthers
All those seasons I defended our team by saying, at least we weren't the Browns, or the Jags, or the Lions. Welp, I guess that's who we're going to be. Welcome to years of games that will be like watching someone kick your favorite dog. Every frikkin' week. It's not too late for ownership to change this. But damn, they seem as entrenched in this bad idea as possible. -
Panthers north will probably have him as their DC after the coaching carousel hits.

And yet, still an upgrade over what we've had. Oh, these days, they are tough ones.

New Pod: Panthers embarrassed at home, what’s next?

Robby Anderson: “We don’t want no fake fans”
Khyber53 replied to Panthers Rhule's topic in Carolina Panthers
Some folks can rock any look with incredible style. Cam is certainly one of those folks. Robby is just a fugging moron and is nowhere near the style icon that Cam is. That being said, Cam's hairstyle required a bigger helmet and you can see him adjusting and readjusting it through the games. Must be bothersome, hope it doesn't become a safety issue for him. -
Panthers reportedly send everyone home due to Covid

Now, just stay there for a couple of weeks. Save us all having to watch what has happened to our franchise. -
Robby Anderson: “We don’t want no fake fans”
Khyber53 replied to Panthers Rhule's topic in Carolina Panthers
fug Robby "Sideshow Bob" Anderson and his butterfingers. Let's package him, Rhule and an entire coaching staff into a trade deal with the Raiders. They'll get a new head coach and we'll unload some problems so us "real fans" can get back to rooting for a professional football team instead of a Temple University alumni gathering. fug him. -
Waitaminnit.... Trade Rhule to the Raiders!!!!!! Happily take David Carr. Or a couple of linemen. Or three trainers. Or just a box of old footballs.
-
Well, they haven't called me up to let me in on their opinions or check on mine. That would be fun!
-
We have to remember that the Raiders are out there in the hunt for a new coach. They are going to be the prime landing spot of the top/best candidate if not every candidate. They are a team ready to compete in a new facility, huge fanbase and the ability to draw star players (except for A. Brown I guess). And it wouldn't be the first time a coach was able to pick up the leavings of Jon Gruden and make a big splash right away.

I really like Bieniemy until I ran across that. A man can change and reform, but our luck with chance taking has not been good for the last couple of years.

I'm willing to give Sam one more year if the team fixes the O-line
Khyber53 replied to Gipetto's topic in Carolina Panthers
With decent coaching and an o-line that could protect for even two seconds, maybe Darnold would have been a winner. We'll never know. And there's every chance now that we're stuck with Rhule, which means no o-line, no decent coaching. We're as doomed as Darnold's comeback chances were. -
Players sent home due to + covid tests today.
Khyber53 replied to SizzleBuzz's topic in Carolina Panthers
Players are like, "C'mon, show a positive, show a positive. Don't make me risk injury to play these last two games." It's not can you fake a vaccination here, it's can you fake COVID? -
We are now living the nightmare I was worried about at the end of last season. And everyone was like, "There's no way we're letting a guy out just two seasons into his seven year contract." Now, we're all praying that we will see the end of this mess. Now, my big worry at the end of this season is that you were all right and that Tepper won't fire him after just two years. Sad days, indeed.

We have a lot of talent on this team, both in vets and rookies/young players. Coaching and schemes just aren't making good use of them. That has become apparent throughout the year. The materials are there, what we are lacking is the knowledge of how to turn them into a professional team. Look at CMC. Rivera could use him all over the field. Yes, he has been injured each year, but even when he was on the field, we saw poor usage of him. If it wasn't a called run up the middle, he was always the second or third option (always the safety outlet) which meant there were no blocking schemes set up in front of him. Really no wonder the lower output and injuries when you consider this. DJ Moore suffers from a similar problem -- he is sent out on a stringer by himself, hopefully to catch a pass in triple coverage and "make something happen" rather than scheming routes to get him some picks. Sheesh, how about even a frikkin' slant route for the guy? It's like all that planning goes to trying the make Robby Anderson a star player, something he certainly isn't. On Gilmore and Henderson, we have some strength there as our #2 and #3 DBs, particularly if Jaycee Horn comes back and plays with the same quality as before. Gilmore and Henderson can really shut down the secondary targets, allowing Horn and a safety to nullify the #1 WR. Oh, frik it. Who cares? We're going to have to sit through a couple more games of this at the least, but most likely another season beyond that. fug this.
