  1. Third time this has been posted here and it doesn't make Weis look any better than the first two times.
  2. Now where is our resident "Watson won't consider us becuz Cam is his buddy" poster? He's already backpedalled from that statement, let's see how far he can backpedal more.
  3. Well we gave him the biggest QB contract in franchise history in terms of average salary and his 2021 salary will be the second highest we have ever paid a player at any position. I believe it is actually a top 5 biggest contract we have ever handed out in terms of total value. I'd say that is pretty bad.
  4. I liked that article until I saw someone ranked Ian Thomas, and then I knew that one dummy had skewed the three data points.
  5. No, it gets accelerated. It is either $17 or 21 mil this season alone, IIRC.
  6. The only way I'd trade CMC is for an elite QB or a draft haul. Like 2 first round picks and change. Otherwise we are just nuking our cap space we just created.
  7. This is the thing that seems to get lost on everyone. Just because the Jets and Dolphins have the resources to trade for Watson doesn't mean they will so easily pony them up. It takes two to tango. What we know is that Tepper appears to be making eyes across the dance floor and headed the Texans way
  8. It shouldn't be. He cannot help us win games. It is the one thing he has proved.
  9. He has the same career INT% as Jared Goff and Kirk Cousins, slightly worse than someone like Kyler Murray. He's about mid-range for an NFL starter in taking care of the ball. The thing that he consistently sucks at isn't really turning the ball over, it's getting the ball into the endzone. His career TD% is atrocious. I had to dig deep to find similar rates. Brandon Allen, Blaine Gabbert, Brian Hoyer. So, essentially he has the TD percentage of a career backup. This is actually something I hadn't looked at until now but it is pretty eye opening to see where he slots into that category.
  10. Maybe it keeps flooding since we got our 6785th inch of rain in the past month.
  11. I don't think I have seen a game all year where I have seen more of our guys just randomly lose an edge and slip.
  12. We were pretty sloppy in that period. Good thing Reimer went fuging HAM in that period. I don't think he gave up one rebound.
  13. I think adding him probably makes us a winner next year(depending on what we give up). Not sure it would be much more than a 9-7 winner.
  14. I'd put the non-exclusive tag on him if I didn't plan on keeping him. I think there would be a line of teams at that 2 1st round pick price.
  15. Of course I can imagine it. It happened last year. We were actually pretty good offensively still. We rushed for 1704 yards, 19 TD's and a 4.2 YPC average in 2020 and 1819 yards, 20 TD's and a 4.7 YPC average in 2019. It really wouldn't have been the end of our offense. When he went out, a lot of his receiving load just went to Davis and Samuel. Are those guys as good as CMC? Of course not, but we didn't fall off a cliff either. And Mike Davis has 59 receptions last year, so I don't think we would just stop throwing to the RB if CMC wasn't here or doesn't play. The biggest blow to the team is basically the contract size. If he remains here for the rest of his contract, he will likely consistently be in the 4-6 paid players on the roster and that is taking away cap space for much more valuable positions(DE, WR, OL, etc). I suspect he will probably end up not making the end of his contract, however, so we may indeed avoid the bulk of the worst cap hit years(2023/2024). Or, perhaps he produces at an elite level for the remainder of his contract and that will work, as well.
  16. Well that probably had to do with the NFL's worst receivers and a diminished Cam.
  17. I think that largely comes down to the difference between a "running" QB and a "scrambling/mobile" QB. Most of those scrambling/mobile QB's tend to be pretty good at avoiding contact, whereas your running QB's tend to get obliterated(Allen, Vick, Jackson, etc).
  18. I can see an argument to that although the overall numbers significantly favor the 2020 squad. 2003: 169 rec, 2336 yds, 14 TD (13.8 ypc) 2020: 238 rec, 3140 yds, 10 TD (13.2 ypc) I think if we had 2003 Jake Delhomme throwing to these guys, it might be a clear win for the 2020 guys. We'll never know because we had 'ol checkdown. I probably like Smitty and Moose a little over Moore and Anderson but I like Samuels WAY more than Proehl. That is a good matchup, though. One thing I can say, never doubt Smitty. He was the predominant factor in most of those late season losses when the defense was playing so much better and he simply couldn't make plays to get in the end zone. It was telling during that stretch that we were able to win with Walker as QB with how well our defense was performing. As I said, the big problem was that he didn't prove to be a starting caliber NFL QB. He was the same journeyman backup that finished 3rd at the Jets and wasn't asked to return in New Orleans(who appear to want Jameis Winston instead). I didn't expect him to be this clearly unsuited to a starting role. The problem with the "building the team first" road is that you never know when you will have another shot at a franchise QB. In the Watson scenario, it's unlikely you will see that in the next 20 years, since it hasn't happened in the past 40. Guys like that just don't become available at 25 years old. For the draft, well, that just comes down to who your guy is. In one of the biggest ironies of all, had Hurney actually traded up last season, none of these discussions are happening and we'd be looking at one of the bright young stars in the NFL playing for us in Justin Herbert. So if our evaluations say that one or more of these young guys is the one, by all means spend an extra first rounder and some extra picks to go get them. I would never argue against building our OL(our second biggest priority, by a wide margin) or filling out all the multitudes of roster holes which are so painfully obvious. But we can build, build, build but unless we build a truly elite defense(once in a decade caliber) and pair it with a hell of a surrounding cast, we aren't going to win without a very good QB. The instances of that happening recently have been twice with the Ravens and once with Denver. All of those teams were exceptional defensively.
  19. Well he wasn't dinking and dunking enough to get rid of the ball very quickly. Admittedly that may have had more to do with supporting cast. The stats don't lie, however, he did hold on to the ball for a while.
