  1. Thanks for the heads up ladypanther, how dumb of me,one would think the #1 rated team would be favored over the # 3 rated team. Serves me right for just assuming and shooting my mouth off before I checked. However,I still plan on rooting for Georgia. ("INDIANAPOLIS — No. 1 Alabama is a 3-point underdog against No. 3 Georgia heading into the College Football Playoff championship game at Lucas Oil Stadium on Monday ")
  2. Exactly. Scott Fitterer's explanation regarding Brady Christensen and his arm length, backs up what all of us here on the Huddle have been saying for a long time.
  3. I almost always pull for the underdog in the national champiomship game unless Clemson or a Carolina team would be playing,so i will be rooting for Georgia to upset Alabama..
  4. No other NFL team was interested in signing Cam but the Panthers not only signed him but gave him six million dollars to be a part time quarterback for half a season. That is a pretty good hunk of change to make for a quarterback no other tean wanted, so there is no way I am feeling sorry for Cam.

  6. There is a good argument that the Carolina Panthers need to move on from McCaffrey’s massive contract after next year. Why not just part ways after this season, following two injury-riddled seasons? Because McCaffrey’s dead cap would be excruciating for the Panthers to pay out next season, at $26.6 million. Teams use creative accounting to keep cap space every year by restructuring contracts and converting bonus to salary, but they always have to count guaranteed money as cap space, hence why McCaffrey’s dead cap hit this offseason would be so large. By keeping McCaffrey around for 2022 the Panthers pay his $14.3 million cap hit and ideally get good production out of him and can even trade him at the deadline. Or, after 2022, the team can part ways and pay the $12.8 million dead cap hit, spreading it over two years in a post-June 1 move if they so desire. The Panthers would almost certainly anticipate such a move by drafting a running back in the third round next season providing insurance for McCaffrey’s departure. It’s likely not the nicest thought for all of us loyal Panthers fans, but a seemingly unavoidable reality in the modern NFL.

  8. I am not sure how much faith i would have in something Jimmy "Pickles" Clausen predicted.
  9. That could be the message they are sending. My guess is Teppers is hot on their tails to obtain a quality NFL starting QB.
  10. But,But, Rhule says his arms are a 1/4 inch to short and we projected him to be a guard. (Sarcasm)
  11. Rivera might tank Sudays game to obtain a beter draft position like he did when Washington played the Panthers last year.
  12. This is from a January 19 2021 article : These coaches have attempted the leap from college to the pro’s. According to research from ESPN’s Cole Cubelic, since the year 2000 there have been 11 coaches hired to the NFL directly from a college position. Here are their records during those tenures: 1st Time NFL Head Coaches hired Directly from College since 2000: Matt Rhule, Carolina Panthers 5-11 Kliff Kingsbury, Arizona Cardinals 13-18-1 Bill O’Brien, Houston Texans 52-48 Chip Kelly, Philadelphia Eagles 26-21 Doug Marrone, Buffalo Bills 15-17 Greg Schiano, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 11-21 Jim Harbaugh, San Francisco 49ers 44-19-1 Bobby Petrino, Atlanta Falcons 3-10 Nick Saban, Miami Dolphins 15-17 Steve Spurrier, Washington Football Team 12-20 Butch Davis, Cleveland Browns 24-35
  13. Antonio Brown has been blessed with gifted talent and made lots of money because of it but for whatever reasons cannot seem to cope in the real world and live a normal life. Hopefully, he gets some much needed help but I am wondering if there is a cure for his problems and the demons that seem to follow in his foot steps?
  14. I place the most responsibility on Tampa Bay for hiring Antonio Brown, knowing his long history of various behavioral problems. They knew Brown was a headcase when they signed him, so Sunday they got the bad result that was almost assured to happen sooner or later.
  15. If the Panthers can (a big if) address the protection issue through free agency and via the trade market as well, i can see them selecting Pitt QB Kenny Pickett with their # 6 draft selection. I realize that most speculate this is not the year for a bonafide franchise QB to come out of the draft, but each year there is at least one viable starting quarterback prospect. While no clear-cut prospect has emerged above the rest, Pitt Panthers’ QB Kenny Pickett will probably be the one to do so. Pro Scouts contend Pickett spent an extra year developing at Pitt, and it served the him well, which catapulted him into the first-round conversation. He was highly productive in his final season, flashing accuracy, smart decision-making, and sneaky athletic ability. The Panthers shouldn’t hesitate to select Pickett if he’s still available with their first-round selection if they can somehow solve the current OL problem.
  16. You are usually correct on your assumptions. Soooooo............
  17. Most draft boards project that Alabama OT Evan Neal will not get past the New York Giants picking at #5. # 5 New York Giants: Evan Neal, OT/G, Alabama Andrew Thomas struggled to begin his career. He has improved, but right tackle is a big problem because Nate Solder is a shell of his former self. Evan Neal is a 360-pound lineman who can move very well, which almost seems impossible.
  18. Since this is the 18th week the SOS should be locked in and he undoubtly took that in consideration when he wrote : "The Panthers’ .507 SOS is worse than the Giants (.537) and the Jets (.515)"
  19. I realize Neal, the Alabama offensive tackle, is rated high but almost all NFL Pro Scouts have him projected as a playing Right Tackle in the NFL, the only offensive line postion we presently have covered. Plus, i am not sure how long he could play injury free, considering all the stress his his vast amount of weight puts on his knees,etc.. My guess is the Panthers will try trading back to obtain more draft choices. There should be several good offensive tackles and a top center available to select from, if the Panthers don't trade back to far.
  20. The Panthers have a lock on # 6 position but :PANTHERS PICK 5TH IN THE DRAFT IF … Landing the fifth pick requires the Panthers to lose and just one of the New York teams to upset their Week 18 opponent PANTHERS PICK 4TH IN THE DRAFT IF … This is the lowest the Panthers could pick. It would require a Panthers loss and wins by both the Giants and Jets, tying all three teams with 5-12 records
  21. https://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/nfl/carolina-panthers/article257028667.html With one game remaining, the Panthers are locked into a top-6 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Carolina (5-11) is a 10-point underdog to Tampa Bay in a rematch from two weeks ago, where the Buccaneers won 32-6 at Bank of America Stadium. The worst the Panthers can select is sixth, which is where they are currently slated. Even if Carolina upsets Tampa Bay and the Seahawks (6-10), Bears (6-10) and Washington (6-10) lose, tying all five teams with six victories and 11 losses, the Panthers’ .507 strength of schedule is the lowest, giving them the five-way tiebreak. Carolina Panthers Tiebreakers in draft position are determined first by strength of schedule (SOS). The lower the SOS, the higher a team picks if their records are tied. After strength of schedule, tiebreakers are settled by division tiebreakers, conference tiebreakers, interconference tiebreakers and, if necessary, a coin toss. Carolina cannot select third because the Texans (4-12) have a lower strength of schedule at .498. Detroit (2-13-1) and Jacksonville (2-14) will pick either first or second. Let’s explore the three realistic draft positions the Panthers can earn once Week 18 comes to a close and what needs to happen to cause each. PANTHERS PICK 4TH IN THE DRAFT IF … This is the lowest the Panthers could pick. It would require a Panthers loss and wins by both the Giants and Jets, tying all three teams with 5-12 records. The Panthers’ .507 SOS is worse than the Giants (.537) and the Jets (.515). The Giants host Washington on Sunday. The Giants have lost five straight games under second-year head coach Joe Judge and lost 30-29 to Washington in Week 2. The Jets are playing at Buffalo in another Week 18 divisional game. The Bills blew out New York in Week 9, winning 45-17. Both the Jets and Giants are underdogs in their respective matchups. Washington is favored by 6.5 points over the Giants while the Jets are 17-point dogs. Find more sports news, plus coverage from Sports Illustrated. READ MORE PANTHERS PICK 5TH IN THE DRAFT IF … Landing the fifth pick requires the Panthers to lose and just one of the New York teams to upset their Week 18 opponent. PANTHERS PICK 6TH IN THE DRAFT IF … This is where the Panthers are slated to pick if the NFL season were still 17 weeks long. It’s most likely Carolina will pick sixth considering both the Jets and Giants are large underdogs. One thing Panthers’ fans can look forward to is if Carolina beats Tampa Bay, its draft position will not change. Coach Matt Rhule has a chance to snap the Panthers’ six-game losing streak while not hurting draft position like what happened in Week 16 last year when they beat a playoff-bound Washington team on the road. 22. But,But,the politically correct crowd might say it was demeaning to wolves to name a losing NFL team after them.
