May need to revise your opinion on Hubbard. He was our second leading receiver last night. Here's the stat line: In fact, Chuba has caught all 7 of his targets this year.

Just so it's been said . . . of those 51 games, Riverboat and Rhule are responsible for 50 of them. As bad as that stat is, let's keep in mind the context. Two years from now if the streak continues it will be a massive indictment of David Teppers leadership.

I have seen enough "sneaky fast" Panthers receivers already, thanks. I'd like to see, for a change, a Panthers receiver who we can look at and go "Wow! He blew by that guy and is wide open!"

QB School: Bryce Young - Week 1 @ Falcons
BrianS replied to TheCasillas's topic in Carolina Panthers
When your team only scores 14 points, turns the ball over three times and generally fails to execute you have to expect some serious critique. Yes, he was a little hard on AT. But it wasn't necessarily unwarranted. AT is the guy who is supposed to be the veteran presence in that room, leading by example. I didn't see many shots of him dusting his guy and creating an obvious place for the ball to go. It was an opinion that was critical of our wide personnel. That's fair. Our guys, AT aside, have generally proven nothing in their careers. On past accomplishments, you have to say our WR room is bottom third of the league. Until they prove otherwise, that's all they will be. Criticism warranted. We are paying about 35 million for that WR room this year. Unfortunately, only 10.5 million is being paid to players who are actually on our roster. I daresay that 25 million would be awfully helpful in improving that room. In any event, we'll know a lot more by week 10. To say we know anything after week 1 is folly. -
Hate to say it . . . but it's not a freak thing. What Horn has proven over his time here is that he is injury prone. I get it, he didn't show it in college. But sure seems like it's his deal in the NFL.

Dammit! I was coming here to post the troll thread of all troll threads and you beat me to it!

Some positive and critical thoughts on yesterdays game
BrianS replied to Saca312's topic in Carolina Panthers
The trick about separation is that it's twofold. You need to stretch a defense in order to create separation. When you allow the opponent to stack the first 20 yards, separation becomes REALLY REALLY HARD. When you have a field stretcher, you are immediately taking two guys out of the first 20 yards of field. Go watch the Dolphins game to see what I mean. The Chargers safeties are sometimes 20 yards back from the line of scrimmage at the snap. Let alone as the patterns develop. Makes it a ton easier to scheme open the short and intermediate stuff. -
You know who else doesn't have a great arm? Brock Purdy. Jimmy G. Tua. Mac Jones. Ok arms, but they get the job done. It won't be his arm strength that's the problem.

I think what we learn tonite is that Mahomes is still Mahomes, and that other people can catch the ball. Kelce is great, no doubt. However, I suspect that even without him the combination of Mahomes playmaking and Andy Reid scheming is going to result in the Chiefs doing Chiefs things.

Seems like a simple "How big is your fanbase" or perhaps "How big is your local market".

CB depth has to be the priority. Our starting CB's have 7 years of NFL experience between them, and of those seven years only one year (DJax rookie) have they played in every game. I'm not sure how you can even argue that our CB's aren't injury prone.

I would be over the moon if it turns out we have the number 10 defense in the league this year. I suspect we'll be somewhere between 12 and 15 assuming everyone stays healthy. If we lose a corner - and history says we will - we'll be somewhere between 15 and 20.

No. He wasn't. Young was the #2 QB on Simms board. Simms, like pretty much every single evaluator, had concerns over size. That's it. In fact, Simms had some traits for Young that he compared to Mahomes and Rodgers.
-
No way Laviska plays in this game. He's in concussion protocol. Let him heal all the way up to the first real game.
-
Totally the wrong way to think about it. Preseason performances are EVERYTHING - especially for guys on the bubble. Preseason RESULTS mean nothing.

Stats can be very misleading. If anyone here thinks that Stroud just sat there scanning the field for nearly four seconds I've got some great oceanfront property in Colorado I'd like to get off my hands. If I were a Texans fan, I would say "Well, looks like Stroud is better at buying time".

It's Jets joint practice Day 1 (8.9.2023)
BrianS replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
Or terrible by the corner. Both corners rolled up to the under. If Bryce had seen it the wide player was uncovered on the go. It was a blown coverage that they were fortunate on. Not sure who was right and who was wrong for the defense, but something was blown there. -
I swear our kickers are cursed. There is no other explanation.

Good link showing names, depth by position
BrianS replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
We did, and then brought him back. We have a dead cap hit for him based on cutting him from his rookie contract. This contract is a one year non-guaranteed. -
It's not that hard to understand. I was one who liked Stroud over Young. It's a simple matter of what we knew pre-draft. Always keep that lens in mind. We didn't have all this inside knowledge prior to the draft. All we had to go on is college tape, the combine and pro days.

I suspect if Corbett and Zavala weren't both injured they'd give BC a shot out there. But with those two injured, our options at guard are nearly as limited as our options at tackle.
-
There is no way they keep both. Byrd and Smith are the same player.
-
Man, Mingo nearly as big as Moose. I really hope he lives up to his potential. He could be a game changer for us.

Evero's defense will be fast and aggressive.
BrianS replied to panthers55's topic in Carolina Panthers
Because Denver was already running a 3-4 when Evero arrived. We were a 4-3.
