  1. Well, I never wanted Darnold, but there are lots of elements that contribute to player performance (at any position). New environment often equates to a different player, for better or worse. The fan in me will hope it's the former.
  2. It all depends on your scouting staff and their evaluations imho. If a guy they see as developmental with upside falls and you didn't get a QB early, you might need to pull the trigger. It's all dynamic as things unfold within the context of the bigger picture of overall team development.
  3. Minshew could be a winner imho. I'd love to get him, even if we draft "the future" @ 8 (or later). Aside from actual performance that hints at real ability, I love his intangibles. The probable cost/benefit ratio is great as far as I'm concerned.
  4. I don't really know enough about Wolford to have an opinion on him specifically, but I'm always interested in looking for potential diamonds in the rough, especially if the price isn't too high.
  5. I sure hope we don't chase the game. I think we're better served letting it come to us. Lots of great players. You can't draft them without picks.
  6. I'm a "glass half-full" guy, and while it'd be nice to get a franchise QB this draft, the bust rate means it's a roll of the dice no matter who we picked. Additionally, if all these QBs go before 8, we'll get a shot at a hell of a player or can trade down and get even more assets. I'm optimistic. I'm confident in Rhule and co. from what I've seen, and there are many avenues to getting a winning QB as well as building a complete team.
  7. Blame the NFL and their utter disdain for the defensive side of the ball. Points, points, points! That's all the common fan can appreciate, so they tilted the field to accommodate.
  8. To me, the way things have unfolded are a blessing. I think we could have hamstrung this team's long-term outlook with the resources we might have given up for Watson or a trade-up. I still say go get Minshew and trade-down or take BPA. The Panthers are a work-in-progress, and a rookie QB wouldn't have brought us to the mountain top next season - not to mention the bust rate of QBs in general. It will all be alright. No worries. We'll have our opportunity to get our guy at some point. And if our scouting is really good, it might even happen this year. Patience. Lots of moving parts and things are never as bad as they might seem. Hang in there.
  9. Whether they do or not, I think it's the best course. Should be fun to watch the gears turn though.
  10. Stick @ 8 and if our guy isn't there, try and trade back or take one of the awesome players that fell due to the QB rush. Patience. Let it all come to you.
  11. I think he's got an approach I like so far, looking for dirty, undervalued (potential) diamonds that can be rinsed off and shine. (In many cases) Looking to spend cap resources efficiently for the most part. Good cost-benefit approach overall. But of course, as with all things...we'll see how it plays out. I'm optimistic given the small sample.
  12. I like a trade down in that scenario. I still think we could get a Minshew maybe and acquire a more complete roster with additional picks.
  13. We have no business going after him in the current state of this team as it is. It's a blessing if he doesn't want to come here. Praise be.
  14. Yeah, if you do that you can let the draft come to you and/or trade down. It doesn't preclude you from drafting a QB @ 8 if you like.
  15. Yeah, I agree. You want dynamic/electric players, and when you see one...when you have one, you hold onto them.
  16. Football is a complex game with many moving parts. Who is the real player? We're all defined, at least to a degree, by context, and the same is true for NFL players. No one exists in a vacuum. New scenery - new player, for better or worse. I think in the case of Trubisky, it's worth the (likely modestly priced) gamble. Imagining that we get the best out of him along with a full complement of draft picks (who knows how many if we trade down) and another year of development under Rhule and co. is a prospect that excites me as a fan. I'd much rather go that route than get Watson (or trade up for a QB) and an empty cupboard.
  17. Sure, they're not ideal, but I'm just concerned about the cost/benefit ratio of landing a big fish. I just don't want to compromise the building of the team in an effort to get our answer @ QB. The "at any cost" mentality doesn't make sense to me. It will just make things unbalanced imho.
  18. I've mentioned this a few times, but I'm all for getting Minshew or Trubisky and trading back to flesh out the holes on this team. Doing anything in a panic isn't good. We could really get a lot of draft capital and an improvement at QB without selling the farm for Watson or committing to a QB @ 8. Let's build the best team we can.
  19. Was there ever a man more interested in the bottom line?
  20. I want to get Minshew or Trubisky and stay at 8. And if at 8 Lance is still there, go ahead and pick him or if not, trade back and accumulate pieces.
  21. Apparently the Saints are an exception and have no cap. Sheesh.
