I hope we don't jump on Payton before we can get Kafka and possibly Steichen in the building. I am also interested in the Broncos D coordinator. Apparently he was the guy that kept that locker room together and had that D playing at amazing levels even though their offense couldn't produce all year.

I'd imagine that they are casting a wide net here and doing their research, reaching out to contacts etc... and in that process Mayos name came up or kept coming up and couldn't be ignored. The truth of the matter is to top candidate going in could not be the top candidate coming out. I would say Vrabel has been a good coach. Once again, very different being a player from that environment then being a coach from there.

So which QB do we think will be available at #9?
PanthersGTI replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
I got a feeling Levis will be there. Now do they take him? That's a different question. Who else is on the board? Could really use a DE. -
I would think this is more like a Vrabel then a Patricia/McDaniels. High level former player I think makes a big difference. Those guys were leaders on the field too. It makes a difference if you can translate that to coaching.

I'm not put off my J.Mayo at all. I kinda like what Dan Campbell has done out there in Detroit. Former players that can be good coaches seem to have a certain "it" factor. If Mayo can lead like Campbell and assemble a good stuff, I'm all aboard. I think people get too stuck on offensive coach vs defensive. You need the right coach, McDermott is a great example of this. That offense functions and he is smart enough to know to not go the conservative route. I think recent former players understand the new NFL better anyways, they played it. They know conservative O and calls don't win games anymore.

I think this is where I am landing. Johnson as the top pick. I just hope we can keep Campen on staff no matter who gets hired.

To be honest, I wouldn't be mad if we drafted 2 offensive linemen each year.

Is this a joke? -
So glad they are staying away from Harbaugh. Dude is insane, if he comes back to the NFL it is not going to go well for him.

If Miami is this dumb, Tepper needs to get that man in the building ASAP and never let him leave.

Disappointing player of the year award?

Henderson, Chinn, YGM If these 3 were playing to perceived potential the defense would be legit scary. -
Jim Harbaugh has convo with David Tepper

He's a crazy person, the more I think on it the less I want him. -
Jim Harbaugh has convo with David Tepper

These are the things. Its a little bit of what Rhule did, treat them like college kids. Rhule went the "I'm your homie" way and Harbaugh goes "I'm your boomer Dad" route. Harbaugh got wins there so it flew under the radar for a while, but when you are that guy 1 small crack leads to the damn breaking. Like....is he going to berate a player for eating a chicken sandwich, ya know? Also todays players are less likely to respond to those things IMO. -
whose your projected 2023 Panthers HC / QB combo

"We should have traded Burns" - a rebuttal
PanthersGTI replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
I mean sounds like a plan to me....get rid of an expensive RB in todays NFL and keep a great young player at one of the most important positions on the field. I know its a meme but.....we could even potentially draft a young pass rusher with the picks we get from Brian Burns! 1 in the hand is worth 2 in the bush. Not guarantee the next DE they draft pans out and Burns isn't reaching the end of his career. -
Can Sam Darnold play himself into becoming the 2023 starter?

Harbaugh + Darnold.... hummmmm -
Harbaugh to Carolina Makes Too Much Sense...
PanthersGTI replied to chknwing's topic in Carolina Panthers
Full control will be a big deal but lets say they can get past that. I have concerns with the rumors of him losing the team is last season ( or two? ) in SF. Being the hardass coach works while you can win but when the wheels fall off they really fall off. It is a risk. I don't know how true that stuff was or if it was just team fed media stuff to make them look better. That was an ugly breakup. -
I think a perspective some may be missing in this whole offense vs defense coach thing is age. I think its possible that a young DS also understands the new NFL and what it takes to win in it. It would be hard to imagine Ryan bringing in some dinosaur NFL offensive coordinator, especially taking a look at who he has been exposed to on that side of the ball. It is true a good OC will probably get HC consideration and we could lose out that way....but we have all also seen that personally with the DC too. Going from McDermott to Wilks was a step back and then from Wilks to Eric Washington ( and in a round about way Holcomb ) were big drops.

Wilks Set This Team Back
PanthersGTI replied to Move the Panthers to Raleigh's topic in Carolina Panthers
It has been said before but I think it holds true. Rivera was a more likeable John Fox, Fox 2.0. Wilks seems to be Rivera 1.1. I think just as fans we want NFL experienced coaching that brings something new. We are desperate for it. Probably what got us excited for Rhule in the first place. -
Who knows what Panthers team will show up? Will the defense stay stout with out Jaycee? Everyone and their mama is going to be looking for the run can this team run into the teeth of the defense or can the passing attack make them pay? I think now more then ever the season hinges on Brian Burns. We need pressure pressure pressure. Without blitzing. Panthers win : 20-14

Panthers working out Josh Norman today
PanthersGTI replied to TheCasillas's topic in Carolina Panthers
I am praying this comes down to being able to utilize him in the system well and not relying on him to make a bunch of plays and be glued to #1s down the field. -
Sometimes sticking with a guy pays off. Shows him you believe and lets the locker room know you got their backs. It is a risk but in a season like this it was worth it. You either gain all the positives or cut him the next week.
