Article: Derrick Brown: We want Steve Wilks to be our head coach
Tr3ach replied to WarPanthers89's topic in Carolina Panthers
You also ignored the other games I listed. While it feels miles better than where we were with Rhule and Wilks deserves credit for that; we are still a .500 team with Wilks and we beat average to bad teams and lost to average to good teams. I don't know thats we have any questions answered yet besides how bad Rhule was. -

Now look at our rushing yards and rush per attempt. This style of offense isnt going to consistently win against good teams in this era. Its just not. -

Say that and rewatch the Pittsburgh game, or the Cincinnati game, or the ravens game. Same oline, running backs, and coaches. You cant rely on your running game always working. You cant rely on your defense always getting stops so you can continue running. It doesnt work anymore like it used to. Not with all these elite big play offenses. -
Holcomb isnt a great DC. The defense was better with Snow because we have a lot of specialized players on defense and Snow utilized it will aggressive blitzes from all over the field. Holcomb relies on the front 4 to get pressure and it just doesnt work as well. Maybe that's an indictment on our dline but you have to call plays for the players you have and adjust.

Can it though? It doesnt feel like it. It feels like with the elite offenses these days every defense is going to have a bad game from time to time and our style of offense is going to be very inconsistent against good teams. We have went 500 against mostly bad teams. I want to believe in Wilks because I'm pretty sure it's going to almost have to happen now, I'm just not as confident in it as so many people seem to be. I'm tired of conservative vanilla coaches. -
So next week’s game against the Bucs is definitely rigged, right?

To be fair laying an egg once the games really matter is the panthers standard for a long while now. -
I said multiple times I doubted he was the answer. Before the season started i said i wasnt sold he was or wasnt yet. When the season started with the exact same problems i was plenty vocal about saying he wasnt the answer. Society today is so bad these days to say if you arent on one extreme then you are automatically on the other and of course the huddle is a microcosm of that.

He made some great throws/reads sprinting to his right with defenders chasing him throwing across his body back to the middle of the field in a full run that the receivers dropped. I believe it was Ian Thomas that dropped them both.

I hate this point trying to be pushed all the time. Every great qb ever was available with the first pick. As you go further in the draft less and less great qbs were available. Having more options earlier is always going to be better. Can a team pick the wrong player? Of course, but the earlier you pick the better odds the right pick was available.

I think Wilks has been told he has the job. (Speculation)

That's just who Wilks is as a coach. Hes a good leader and motivator but that's about it. Hes not going to out scheme someone or be known for making adjustments. Hes said as much in every interview. These are their "strengths" and that's what they're going to do. -
Classic panthers playbook. Lose enough to where the games dont really matter, then win some pointless ones so the games start to matter again and tank the once promising looking draft position, and then implode. It happens more years than not.

Terrible playcalling
-
Darnold running for his life every play. Oline cant handle the rush nor run block today.
-
Yea not questioning you just saying its silly. So a personal foul penalty hurts way less on a play that picks up a first down than all others for basically literally no reason.
-
That's ridiculous as soon as the play is over the new play starts. The play clock instantly resets. I'm not sure how the penalty affects the down and distance in every other situation.
-
Yea I'm not sure how it wasnt first and goal from the 22. The penalty came after the play when they picked up the third down so it made it first down, then on the new set of downs the 15 yard penalty should have been added to the new downs.

Ankle injury

Chinn should never be a coverage safety
-
Mack Brown?
-
So with all that said your answer was both. Being a good leader is very important and hes also really good at scheming.
-
Definitely, I really wish they would stop this Chinn as coverage safety experiment. He made a couple really good plays on the ball last game but most plays they were picking on him. Hes an ok player in coverage and a great one in the box, I have no idea what they're thinking besides the fact Wilks has always been the one adamant about him playing coverage safety.
