  1. They are likely just looking to replace Luton on the PS. It seems to me like the team was saving a spot on the PS for Corral. Then last week happened and the team needed a backup QB while Bryce took a week off while Corral simultaneously signed with the Pats practice squad. Both things combined meant it made the most sense to bring in the only other QB that had experience in our system. If anything, this suggests Bryce will be back soon since they would no longer need Luton to be the backup.
  2. Interesting take. While I do generally agree that better drafting would generate more depth and a better overall team I wanted to compare to the other teams in the league to see if the data supports that claim. Carolina vs the NFL To be as objective as possible I used the "DrAV" metric from PFR to determine if a player was a "contributor". To qualify as a contributor, a player's DrAV had to meet or exceed the median DrAV from their draft class. Re-stated, if a player was in the upper half of their class, they were counted as a "contributor" for the team that drafted them. I'll admit there is probably a better way to do this, I just wanted something quick. Since it took a bit to scrape this all together, I only went back as far as 2016. I also calculated the hit rate for each team or # contributors / # picks. Here are those results. My takeaway is that, over the time span I looked at, the Panthers are slightly below average in terms of finding contributors in the draft. Their 43% rate is just below the league average of 45%. Surprisingly, Philidelphia actually has a lower contribution rate from their draft picks (40% overall); if anything, that should give us all hope that drafting isn't everything to a team's success. I also found it interesting that our NFC south foes have all done a better job of finding contributors in the draft: ATL at a whopping 63% clip, NO at 56%, and TB at 53%. Carolina GMs For those interested I also zoomed in on the Panthers and broke things down by GM; It's crazy that we have had 3 in such a short time period. The percentages shown are the hit rate. My takeaway here is that the jury is still out on Fitterer. Despite the lack of star power, his 2021 draft did end up producing a decent amount of value for the team. His 2022 draft on the other hand was rough. How much of that is him vs Rhule vs the new coaching staff wanting different players is hard to tell. Note that I am not interested in looking at the 2023 draft until after the season.
  3. Bryce is gonna roll up in a full body cast next week after the Dalton led Panthers hang 30 on the seachickens.
  4. Why expose Bryce to unnecessary hits? Even the Chiefs stopped letting Mahommes run sneaks.
  5. Liked it last year. Like it this year. Shouldn't be the main broadcast yet. I do expect some elements to make their way to the main broadcast.
  6. Interesting. The most obvious long-term lineup is Ickey, Zavala, Bozeman, Corbett, Moton ... why delay getting 4 of those 5 pieces in place? Possible reasons: Corbett is further away than expected? Meaning we need Zavala at RG for much longer than 3 weeks. Corbett is moving to LG when he gets back. The coaches think Zavala will have no issues moving back his college position of LG once Corbett returns. The coaches are slow playing it so Brady doesn't feel that he is being replaced in the starting lineup.
  7. That escalated quickly. Might as well get Zavala moved over to the left side with his boy so he can start gelling.
  8. I am shocked that Jaycee hasn't been put on IR yet. Reich indicating that surgery is a possiblity doesn't bode well for a 2-3 week recovery. EDIT: Perhaps they are trying to determine if it's IR eligible to return or just IR for the season.
  9. I want to be excited about this, but then I see Daniel Jones is 5th on this list. Did I just happen to watch a different SNF game than everyone else?
  10. Interesting. Does this mean the Red Rifle is running the scout team?
  11. Watched the video. Corral has tools that make him worth developing. However, he should NOT be counted on to win an NFL game with his arm this season. I do NOT anticipate the Patriots will actually be able to develop him though. Bill doesn't have that kind of track record. Mac came in as a largely finished product (and hasn't really gotten much better) and Brady managed to survive long enough to become an outlier. The Patriot's schedule is pretty brutal early (there is a very real chance they start 0-4 or 1-3), and I could see calls for the new kid (i.e. Corral) by midseason.
  12. Hard to say in the post-Brady era. The early favorite for me would be the Saints as they have a proven defense and a solid veteran QB; they could be held back by coaching though. Coaching: Panthers > Falcons > Bucs & Saints Offense: Saints > Falcons > Panthers > Bucs QB: Saints > Panthers & Falcons > Bucs Pass Catchers: Bucs > Saints > Falcons & Panthers Ball Carriers: Panthers & Falcons > Bucs & Saints O-line: Falcons > Panthers & Bucs > Saints Defense: Saints > Panthers > Bucs > Falcons Pass Rush: Saints > Panthers & Bucs > Falcons Secondary: Saints & Panthers > Bucs & Falcons Special Teams: Panthers > Bucs > Falcons & Saints
  13. I forgot Wentz was still out there. Color me intrigued.
  14. Currently there isn't one. I'd think the default option would be Luton, but I'd prefer someone else. Based on recent cuts I imagine these are the likely options (stats are from this preseason):
  15. He was a G out of college. Maybe a position switch?
  16. Only 16 of 32 teams had a player claimed by another squad. BUF and SF had the most with 3 players lost to waivers.
  17. Loading up on those cheap contracts.
  18. Not a single DT claimed (or QB, RB, WR). Guess that means any big body reinforcements will come through FA.
  19. The whole knock on AR was he was less ready than the other two. Simms list is supposed to be for the upcoming season, not projecting 3 years in the future. Putting AR ahead of the other two first round QBs for THIS season makes this whole list a farce. This feels like he was doing something controversial just to get clicks/views.
  20. Guessing the are looking for traits to coach until they are in a position to draft/sign a more prototypical guy.
  21. It seems the big XFL TE is getting a tryout at LB.
  22. Would be nice to have a late season game against Tampa so we can knock them out of the Caleb Williams sweepstakes if necessary.
  23. I was glad to hear we are looking at the spring leagues to help fill out the back end of the roster. The XFL season ends next weekend, so I imagine we'd see some moves shortly thereafter.
  24. Shocked that Fitt stuck at both picks and didn't trade back. It's gonna be a HUGE UDFA class.
