PFT: Orlando Brown Jr wants to be traded
LinvilleGorge replied to JawnyBlaze's topic in Carolina Panthers
It's the new mythical "#1 WR". If he's not Jonathan Ogden/Orlando Pace level then he's not a legit LT. LOL! It's weird that this fanbase seems to be the pickiest at positions where we're historically really bad. -
I was very concerned about Snow but he greatly exceeded expectations. Seems some people are forgetting that virtually everyone expected us to have the worst D in the league and we we're far from that. Snow's D was basically the opposite of Teddy at QB. When the chips were down in key late game situations they came up with stops the majority of the time... then Teddy shat the bed.

Lots of teams desperate for a QB this season and Heinicke looked pretty decent when he got a shot. I mean, that's peanuts for a QB. Did they probably overpay a bit? Sure. But it's a helluva lot better than that joke of a Teddy contract.
-
They're just looking at the reality of the situation that they may not be able to significantly upgrade that position this off-season and may need a bridge QB. I sure would rather be paying Heinicke $8.75M over two years than Teddy $63M over three.

If a QB isn’t there at 8... Slater is your pick
LinvilleGorge replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Calm down Marty. One of the reasons we got duped by Little was his 35 1/4" arms. -
Yep. That's why my favorite QB situations are non-traditional powerhouse P5 programs. You get to see those QBs play a few games a year against teams that are just flat out better than theirs and see how they handle it. That's one thing I think a lot of people are kinda overlooking with Lance. He plays for basically the Alabama of D1-AA.
-
Burrow sure looked good and he was a one year wonder. You gotta just evaluate every QB individually. If you want a QB checking all those boxes, you better be sitting at #1 overall or get very lucky. You could also end up with a great college QB with limited NFL upside checking all those boxes. I'm sure plenty of Alabama and Ohio State QBs of old we're checking them right down the line. Pretty sure former UNC QB Marquis Williams would've probably checked every box but you could watch him play any game and see that he was a good college QB that wasn't going to translate to the NFL. And yes, UNC's staff was very dumb for playing Williams over Trubisky.

I'd be a lot more interested in seeing how Parcell's criteria holds up on older draft classes. We have no idea how those QBs from the '19 and '20 draft classes will ultimately turn out. Guys who don't look like much currently could still turn out to be really good and guys who look really good right now could still fizzle out. But, I do see those criteria being a lot of ideal case scenarios. Are you really gonna knock a guy for not being a three year starter because he sat a year beylhind another really good QB and/or the coaching staff was too dumb to play him over another guy?

PFT: Orlando Brown Jr wants to be traded
LinvilleGorge replied to JawnyBlaze's topic in Carolina Panthers
Or any of the various other forms of trash we've fielded at OT since Gross retired. Oher was good. Sucks he got that concussion. Okung was good. Sucks he can't stay on the field. The Byron Bell/Nate Chandler tandem in particular has to be in the discussion for worst planned starting OT tandem in NFL history. -

I don't think it's desperation. An above average pass blocking LT is worth a 3rdvall day everyday. You don't have to have Jonathan Ogden, but you can't afford to put trash on the field. But no, we would have to be very conservative with any trade offer we make until we figure out QB. A 3rd? Yeah, all day long. Hell, a 3rd this year and a 3rd next year is fine by me. But we gotta keep all those 1sts and 2nds on our back pocket unless it's in a deal to land a QB. -

Which is definitely with a 3rd. I'm kinda tired of consistently fielding trash at LT. IMO, Oher was a little above average at pass blocking and average to a little below average at run blocking. If I could get that again for a 3rd, hell yeah. -

I definitely would. -
Jumping to #3 for Lance makes me nervous, but honestly I'm just gonna have to trust our staff's judgement on this one. They're going to do A TON of homework on these guys and of those next three QBs after Lawrence there's a lot to like about all three but also legit concerns about all three. So, if we jump I'm just gonna hope we made the right call.
-
Yep. The only way I'm okay with taking a shot on Jones is if we accumulate some future draft capital in the process.
-
It was the PFN simulator.

I'd rather keep Moton. He's the better OT.

LinvilleGorge replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Watch the individual player, not the results of the plays/game. -
Define "major haul". If we didn't desperately need a QB I'd be all about it, but we can't be dealing considerable draft assets until we figure out the QB question.

I wasn't overly impressed with Leatherwood in the CFP. I think he's a good OT prospect, but I honestly think his late 1st to early 2nd draft grades from a month or so more accurately reflected where he should be drafted. -
Let me just start off by saying I'd hate this draft, but I think this could be the type of scenario we're looking at with all of four of the "big four" QB prospects gone by #7. I start off trading down in the 1st (twice) with all the QBs gone. I pick up an extra 2nd (Minnesota gave me a 2nd to move from #14 to #9) and 3rd (Denver gave me a 3rd to move up one spot) next year. Slater is there so I take him. Hopefully he's our LT for the next decade. If not, he has positional versatility and should work out somewhere along the OL and we pretty much need an upgrade everywhere except RT. 14. Rashawn Slater OT Northwestern Listen, I don't like this pick. BUT, we're done with Teddy. I think Jones is likely an NFL backup and this is a steep price for a backup, but it gives us a chance to give him a look as possibly more. I wanted Creed Humphrey or Wyatt Davis here but they were gone. 39. Mac Jones QB Alabama We need an upgrade at outside CB. Here's a guy. 73. Eric Stokes CB Georgia We could use an upgrade at MLB and need added depth at LB overall. I was surprised to see Moses still available. 78. Dylan Moses LB Alabama We want more versatility like Chinn. Well, here's a poor man's Chinn at #113. 113. Talanoa Hufanga S USC I think Jackson is a very good and highly underrated C prospect. 152. Drake Jackson OC Kentucky Anderson will give us an upgrade at IOL depth immediately and could end up competing for a starting job at some point. 185. Jack Anderson OG Texas Tech This is a boom or bust pick. Palmer has some elite traits but his route running needs work and his QB situation in college was trash. 195. Josh Palmer WR Tennessee Taking another swing at QB here. Like I said, we're done with Teddy. I think we'll have a vet in the mix to compete with Jones but Buechele gives us a developmental #3. Ultimately, I doubt he works out by it's the 223rd pick. Few of them do. 223. Shane Buechele QB SMU 2022 MIN 2nd 2022 DEN 3rd

I'd love to see Morgan back here. That's all I have to offer. -
Wentz update: Trade is close, with three teams involved
LinvilleGorge replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Because they were probably only being offered peanuts. I think all that talk of a 1st rounder and possibly even more was pure BS from the Eagles' end. -

LinvilleGorge replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
There's no two ways to slice it, we're in a bad spot right now. We're probably on the outside looking in on the QB run at #8 while also needing to rebuild the OL. Trading to get our QB greatly impacts our ability to rebuild the OL. Using our capital to rebuild the OL basically means forgoing a QB or taking a shot in the dark at a 2nd or 3rd tier QB, be it a draft pick or a vet. We already went that vet route last year. In the ideal world, Fields or Lance is available at #8. I'm just less and less convinced of that with each passing day with this current QB carousel going on. We have a gigantic target on our backs from teams behind us too because if one of those guys is available at #7 the Lions' phone is gonna be ringing off the hook with everyone and their brother knowing we are desperate for a QB. -

It's starting to look like all these trade offer rumors likely originated from the Eagles desperately trying to drum up a market. If I had to guess, he ends up getting dealt to the Colts for peanuts.
