2022 Charlotte FC Game Thread
panthers55 replied to MillionDollarCam's topic in Charlotte Football Club
Great weather, great national anthem sung by 74000 folks, and the team played their butts off. We just need more speed and a better attack. But offense is likely going to take some time. We wasted a lot of possessions with deep balls to nobody. -

I think the whole social distancing thing isolated folks and made them less willing to compromise and see other points of view. -

We had our chances but couldn't finish. Still we have lots of young guys who we can deliver and hopefully learn to win. If you want to win now pick another team. If you like soccer and am glad we have MLS soccer in Charlotte, then enjoy the team improvement and hope for as much success as the Panthers did their first 2 years. -
Nah. He wants to coach in Dallas. He didn't want to rebuild after Brees left.
-
We say that every year. And when they sign Wilson to a 40 million a year contract this offseason, everyone will be amazed they were able to do that. If they implode it will because the weasel left not a cap issue.
-
Once again. The cap can be manipulated to sign who you want. We keep saying that NO is going to implode because of back loaded contracts and yet every year they sign whoever they want. Also when you sign a player to a multiyear contract the first year cap is usually the prorated part of the signing bonus and a few million in salary. So if you don't think Reddick is worth an average of 10 million a year with a cap hit of 7-8 milion in 2022 then that is a reason to part with him. But given he is our most dynamic rusher and can play in the field and is good against the run, using the cap as the reason not to resign him makes little sense in the modern NFL

Name something specific that would get you pumped for this season

A good draft and free agency period will get me excited for 2022. After all we are either much improved this year or Rhule is gone. But if we have good talent then we will be on an upswing either in 2022 or in 2023 when the new regime takes over. -
Everyone wants Rhule gone but, what if
panthers55 replied to DaveThePanther2008's topic in Carolina Panthers
Rhule is hiring competent folks. If he let's them do their job we could be much improved. Rhule as a rah-rah guy is fine and his game management while not good has improved over year 1. Truth is when you hire a guy with little NFL experience this is what happens. The bigger question is whether he will let folks do their job or whether this total control fixation he has will ultimately doom him. If the offense is better honestly we should be much improved. -
We can sign him for the signing bonus and a couple of million in cash in 2022. The big money will occur in year 2 or three of the contract. And if we don't guarantee everything we will be fine. The Panthers have folks responsible for fitting everything into the cap. The bigger question is whether he played well enough to justify resigning him and that answer for me is a resounding yes. Then again I am a fan and not a cap specialist so honestly I don't have to worry about the money. And honestly, as NO has shown the league, the cap isn't the stopper that folks think it is. I love folks on here acting as if they are some kind of cap specialist when the truth is none of have a real clue what can be done contract wise.

Offseason finally here. Let's get down to business.

I expect us to address the o line in free agency and in the draft. We have all the cap room we want. It just depends on who we resign to cap friendly deals and who we don't bring back. I have to believe we let Brady play left tackle so we are looking for a guard or two in the draft and the same in free agency with a few depth picks. Unless we can get a top tackle at 6, I would trade back if possible, get a second or third round pick and still get one of top QBs in the draft later in the first.. Use the acquired pick on an O linemen. -
I remember where he intercepted the shovel pass from Brister for a pick six to spur our first franchise win over the jets. That was great to see in person. And was a harbinger of things to come in 1996. What a defense....
-
Most of this conversation is in hind sight. Sure given Horn got injured and missed most of the season, and Darnold was worse than we expected and our line was worse than expected it may have been a wasted pick but at the time he was drafted our secondary was abysmal and we were looking at a bunch of good opposing wide receivers. I still think it will end up being a good move.

Off topic move if you have to but thank you.

If listening to all of our complaining has been therapeutic, just imagine how therapeutic it might be to talk to a professional who can help you make sense of all the crap you have been through. Not saying you need it, just saying... -
LaCanfora asks evaluators about Pickett...
panthers55 replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Seems the supposed experts like Pickett. Is all this doom and gloom from Huddle experts justified.? Considering it would have taken 3 firsts to move up last year for guys who might be somewhat better, getting the first QB this year without giving up additional picks might be decent value. -
QBs play in a system. Unless you subscribe to the theory of picking your guy and building your system around him, most teams try to find a QB to fit their style. So what QB do you want in what system. I want Ridder in an RPO heavy offense. Why would Howell be the best fit in our system??
-
I would love us to either take a left tackle or QB at 6. And I don't buy that you can't take a QB at 6 this year because no one deserves it. If you think he is a franchise QB and he is much better than someone who will be there at your next pick, you pull the trigger. If you trade back you are saying we don't really like him that much and are willing to lose him to someone else. But then again I would likely keep drafting a QB until I hit on one. No matter what I did in free agency.
-
The job of the GM is to get the players his coach wants to play in his system. A GM has to believe in the coach and his system for things to work. If a GM doesn't have faith in the coach then someone either has to go or they got a lot of explaining to do to get on the same page. But since Fitt didn't hire Rhule and it appears that Rhule has player personnel final say, the only thing you can judge Fitts on is how well he did getting players for Rhule's scheme

Finally. Yes he is the GOAT but I honestly won't miss him. Now maybe someone else can win a few SBs. And I never liked him after Superbowl 38. Or New England for that matter. Yeah I hold a grudge.......

Albert Breer on the Panthers quarterback options
panthers55 replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think we trade back from 6 unless a top OT is there and with our later first round pick we get a QB like Ridder who is a dual threat QB who reminds me of Cam. He would be excellent if we decide to run a RPO system. -

Glad he is gone. He is a weasel and shady as hell. He is not a good guy.
