  1. Given this was the Jets second game and our first game you can tell the difference. I have heard it said teams improve the most between their first and second game. Let's hope it rings true for us next week.
  2. Agree. The defense will be vanilla to see how we do without blitzing, exotic looks, or game planning. But we will get to see some good 1 on 1 matches, see how well the secondary does and what our depth will be given injuries bite us there in a passing division. I want to see the offensive scheme even if it is vanilla. And hopefully if Reich simplified things the learning curve won't be too difficult.
  3. This is great for us. The defense gets to operate against a great passer who is playing at a high level. Our secondary is really tested and our d line got to beat up on other folks. It was invaluable for the O line who got to work against a top one gap penetrating defensive scheme after going against our gap and a half scheme every day. Dalton showed he still has it and Yoing got to work against pressure calling protections and adjustments. With all the film being shot the meetings on Friday and next week should be great. Forget who supposedly win or lost and concentrate on how this really helps see what needs to be cleaned up. Will be at the stadium on Saturday to negate the Jets fans.
  4. Everybody who is a Panther fan or a fan of Horn hopes he can stay healthy. I suspect the staff is doing everything they can to keep him on the field. Let's hope he does what he can to get his body ready for the long grind. He is too good to have his career diminished with injuries.
  5. The supporter sections are great but since those seats are already taken you can't create a general admission section for football. But they could do something like Cleveland did with the dog pound.
  6. And as I said Hurts rushed for 15 TDs compared to Sanders 11. That is 15 more than Bryce will run? Who gets those? No one? If we only scored 15 rushing TDs who else is going to get them? Do you think our offense won't be worlds better than last year with the carousel of QBs and changing offensive schemes mid season? If Sanders doesn't get 10 TDs as least I will be shocked. It is about how he will be used and in this run heavy offense Sanders will get the bulk of carries and rushing TDs. He won't have to share with so many other players.
  7. Given he had 11 last year and had a QB who liked to run it in himself in the red zone, how does he only get 5. Bryce won't be running it in but he will be handing it off and dumping it to Sanders. Sanders will only not have big numbers if he is overshadowed by others on the team who would have to make huge leaps from where they are now.
  8. If all we wanted was a guy who could run the ball we would have stuck with Foreman. But we wanted a receiver too. Sanders caught 20 passes albeit for only 78 yards but that was his lowest total. He had 500 yards receving his first year with the Eagles. He will be a bigger part of this offense than Foreman would have been and is being paid accordingly. For this scheme Sanders is a great fit.
  9. How can you decide if we overpaid until you see the production on the field? All you can say is we paid more than some others teams did for their running back. We saw Sanders as both a running back and receiver out of the backfield. Is 7 million a lot to pay a great running back who is also a good receiver?? I think the answer will depend on how he plays this year especially as a receiver. From what Reich did in Indy would suggest Sanders will get a ton of carries and earn all 7 million.
  10. Absolutely. First time at camp in years. Couldn't go during the Rhule years. Really looking forward to seeing Bryce and the rest of the team.
  11. And Bryce can throw much better than Cam so they are both very different. But they were both number 1 picks and both had offenses built around them. And the fact that Marshall played so much better once Rhule was gone suggests he is going to have a break out season this year.
  12. Cam had his best year with arguably his worse WR group. A goal of the coach is for the team to play better than expected with the overall product being better than the mere sum of the parts. So Thielen might not be a legitimate number 1 but on third down he is money and moves the chains. He has his role like Proehl did in 2003. That same year we had a 3rd year guy who had shown flashes mainly on special teams and gadget plays but not really stood out as a receiver make a huge push and was a main reason we went to the postseason that year. Maybe Marshall is that guy for us. But the big X factor is coaching which has been estimated to account for almost 30% of a teams' success. I don't see us getting outcoached very often this season.
  13. They started off expecting to ease Bryce into the scheme slowly and proceed at his own pace. He progressed so fast they have opened up more of the playbook accordingly. It isn't the coaches are expecting too much so much as Bryce is exceeding expectations and showing he can handle whatever they throw at him. As for talent we are running Reich's scheme and he picked his players for that scheme so no Bryc has the talent to run the offense.
  14. They were all first time head coaches with the exception of Seifert. Reich is an experienced head coach who is in his first season here. Big difference.
  15. It is interesting to read and see different takes on the Panthers this year. Some have us as contenders while others say pretenders and over rated. I am on the contender side. We went 6-6 under Wilks and this staff is an upgrade. With a real quarterback and legitimate offensive scheme I just don't see us less than .500 barring major injuries. With some luck we could register our first winning season since 2017. I don't think that is unrealistic.
  16. We need to keep him. I'll leave the how to the experts who are already discussing it with him now that they made Burns an offer. It isn't my money and the cap is easily manipulated. Let Tepper pay. Just get it done.
  17. Cam did in 2015. Jake did it in 2003. Cam elevated everyone's play including Olsen in 2015. We had the supposed worse receivers in the league when Benjamin was hurt. Jake had Moose and a Smitty who was years away from greatness. If that was our team alone there are tons of examples. And no Brady had crap for receivers much of his time there. All he had was a tight end to go to.
  18. No one said they wouldn't want an all pro over a good player or two. The point was there are many ways to win and having receivers by committee is one way teams spread the ball around and become less predictable. It doesn't mean you dont want prime Smitty on your team who pound for pound may have been one of the toughest guys I'm the league. 2005 was the triple crown for him.
  19. During the regular season it is often hard to key on particular players as you don't have the time and often the personnel to match up if injuries occur. You think Evans goes nuts on us if our secondary was healthy. And yeah in big games with time to prepare you can shut down any player even 89. And of course if you can afford great receivers you get them. But teams absolutely choose to avoid high priced guys and instead play WR by committee. The whole money ball thing was about replacing production instead of a player. So is Adam's worth more as a single player than 3 guys who all average 500 yards and collectively score the same numbers of TDs at a cheaper price? I would say at 31 years old, Adam's is beyond the age when most decline and live with injuries. If he gets hurt he takes most of the receiving talent with him whereas a good receiver getting hurt doesn't screw you up. And lastly does the player make the system great or does the system make the player great? I tend toward the latter so no I think 3 good guys in a good system is more valuable than a great player who is most of what the team has for weapons.
  20. I don't agree that one great player and several JAGs are necessarily better than 3 or 4 good guys in a game. That was the original premise. Of course I pointed out specific games to point out players can be shut out. Obviously they aren't going to shut out all the time or they wouldn't be considered a great player. And given that we haven't played any games with this team yet it might be a little soon to say that no receiver has to game planned against. Let's see the offense first.
  21. Actually there are several strategies to shut down a great offense with stud receivers and good defenses know these. How many yards did Kelsey get in their superbowl loss to Tampa in Superbowl 55 ( 31-9). Yeah Kelsey had 10 catches for 133 yards which is great right. But no TDs and only a few first downs and Hill had 73 yards. So they shut them both down from scoring which is the point. If your offense puts up 400 yards but only a few points you are going to lose. Belichick will often target the number 2 receiver with their best corner and double your number 1 guy. The point is that Football is a team game and the goal is to shop the opposition from scoring. But he isn't the only coach who uses the strategy of targeting the defense to shut down players. Many coaches will let one receiver get his catches and then shut other folks down knowing that one player can't carry the offense and the goal is scoring points not counting yards or catches. How about in 2005 when Smitty reeked havoc on teams and Seattle often triple teamed him because we had no other stud receivers and no running game. You can shut down any player you want as long as other guys don't step up.
  22. If you have a guy like Thielen you have a reliable 3rd down option. Having a huge stud at WR which is where you go all the time can be shut down easily enough if the defense keys on them. Then you need other guys to step up to take the pressure and keep teams from shutting down key players. Belichick loves to face teams with only 1 or big WR studs. He shuts them down and makes other guys beat you.
  23. If you think about it receiver by committee means you can't shut us down by concentrating on 1 or 2 players. Instead of 1 1400 yards receiver we might have 3 guys with 500 yards a piece. Instead of a negative it could be a positive.
  24. Seems most of the city's money that they have earmarked for Bof A is from the tourist taxes on food and hotel stays. It isn't taxing city or county residents unless they start talking out bonds the city has to pay back. What am I missing?
