If season ended today which QB would you take.
rayzor replied to Panthercougar68's topic in Carolina Panthers
he's got some of the worst luck with injuries in football. i just don't see how that couldn't carry over into the NFL. otherwise i like him, but those injuries....i'd be fine letting someone else take that risk. -

Poorly run teams make poor decisions. Texans poor choice could make it easier for us to make a better choice. Problem we have is that we are a poorly run organization as well. I've got a feeling it's not going to be if we shoot ourselves in the foot, but just how badly we do it. -

Coin flip on Young and Stroud for me. Also not liking Levis at all, but I've got a feeling we'll be drafting him and then winding up drafting a QB again in 2024 when we realize he's Pickles 2.0 -
i'd take leaf over this guy. he takes it to a whole new level of douche.

Yes, that's what I was thinking of. Hopefully with better payoff, but I think that's the kind of thing we need to try just to make sure we get our QB.
-
Take the best QB available in the first then Hooker in the 4th if he's still there. Worth a shot.
-
Yes, he can help us get an earlier pick, but starting him also turns a 5th into a 4th and we can lose with another QB. No need to put him out there anymore. I've seen all I need to know he sucks.

He played scared all year. He's just not good. -
Steve Wilks Likely to Be 'Seriously Considered' for Panthers Full-Time HC

yes, that would be ideal, but what if you don't have both options available? what if the best choice available for a QB isn't a perennial all-pro, but can be a pretty solid starter...but the HC is a top tier guy? would that be better than getting that all-pro caliber QB but having a coach who is just ok at stuff? which would you rather have or would get the team further? a great HC or a great QB?
-
lol all this discussion about "would a HC pass up a bad team" isn't answering the question in the OP. it doesn't matter just how realistic you might think the scenario is. what is more important for the franchise, not the coaching prospect, the franchise...getting the right HC or getting the best prospective QB?
-
payton is a good relevant example. he's not going to go to any team with an opening because some situations and cultures are much more difficult than others. you've got to think that up and coming HCs will have some teams/situations that would be a preference and some that they would really rather not get sucked into, and only would if there were a lack of opportunities or too much money to pass up. it's quite possible that some might just look at the openings available to them and decide they'd rather wait until next year.

i'm just curious and it's just a hypothetical. for example, if steichen is the guy that everyone wants and he has a choice of several teams, would he want a team that needs a total rebuild but has the first overall or a team that is just a few pieces and good leadership away from being competitive, but didn't have a top 5 pick. which would be more appealing?
-
what if, by tanking, you make the team look like a less desirable situation for the best available HC candidate? is it more important to get the right QB or the right HC? yeah, i know you can get both and money will be a big draw, but forced to choose, which would you say is more important for the future of the franchise? QB or HC?
-
we can get by with a lesser QB and a better HC than we can a lesser HC and a better QB. if Steichen is as good as it appears, it will take a lot of pressure off trying to find the best QB for the team. i'd trust his judgment on the pick, but i'd trust more the work he does with whatever QB he has. the better situation we can make the team look for him, the better the chances of getting him, imo. if he's a hot commodity like it appears he's going to be, the team needs to look like it can compete with just a bit of his tweaking and an improvement at QB. the more competitive we look, the better this team looks for a prospective HC. draft position is important, but i'd trust him to be able to make sure we've got one that he can work with outside of the first couple high ranked QBs....just in case we miss out on them for whatever reason.
