Cam gets 5th year

Two completely different situations. Peppers was not wanted here by us. We let him go. We not only want Cam, but need him, and our management knows we need him. And Cam has not only not said he wants to leave but has actually said he loves the Panthers and doesn't want to leave. QB and DE are incomparable, especially these two specific players.

Disagree.  We offered Pepp a big contract and he turned it down.  He wanted the change in scenery, not the Panthers.  This has already been discussed at length.

Just because they play different positions, it is not that different.  We had a lame duck DC (Trgovac) and Pepp wanted out.  Ironically, I think both are on GB now but that's besides the point.  This offense won't reach its potential under Shula.  He was lame at TB and last year was much of the same.  Couple Shula's shortcomings with rebuilding much of the offense (WR, OL), and it could be a tough year.

Don't get me wrong, I hope everything works out and he stays.  However, it has to be good for Cam too.

When Lebron left Cleveland, I think it instilled paranoia in any small-market fanbase that drafted a superstar no matter what sport.

Great point and interesting.  Lebron may be the most notable illustration of a superstar using some of his leverage to dictate the outcome.  I believe this is becoming bigger than just sticking with the team that drafted you.  These guys are managing their brand and markets make a difference.

In baseball, it is usually about the money.  That's why Red Sox become Yankees.  In sports with salary caps, superstars will get paid similar no matter where they go.  Why not take your talents to South Beach.  In Lebron's case, it should have been an easy decision.  Live in Cleveland with mediocrity or assemble a team of superstars in Miami.  All I am saying is the Panthers need to start building around Cam and making this an attractive place to stay.  I don't believe Shula as our OC will help the cause.

Shula has a special relationship with cam. If anything Shula helps more than hurts

That assumes he wants to remain a Panther. We haven't exactly surrounded him with weapons. Money wont matter because he will get alot no matter where he goes.

There has been zero behavior indicative of Cam not wanting to be here.  I think Cam loves being a Panther.  This was more of a concern before we were familiar with his character and his maturity.

    • I don't necessarily think he will be moved, I would currently be leaning against that notion. I think a lot will depend on the coaching situation. Carroll certainly can't be thinking about wanting to go through a serious strip down and overhaul, so the longer he plans to remain, the less likely I think Crosby gets moved.
    • I think everyone says Mike Evans because of size, but really they have different strengths and play styles.  Tmac is better on intermediate routes and not nearly as good at contested catches.
    • At this point, it is criminal to go into the 2026 training camp/OTA's with XL penciled in as a #2 WR. The team must upgrade, either through free agency or the draft. If he cannot give 100% effort on significantly less snaps as a #4-6 WR(players like Tremayne have done that consistently) then I don't think you have a player worth rostering beyond the trade deadline. Offensively, we eventually have to upgrade to an NFL starting caliber C. It's been almost the length of time from Gross to Ikey since Kalil retired and we have below average to terrible C play. Love Mays as a BC-esque utility backup but he will never be an above average long term starting C.  The TE room is one of the worst in the NFL but it's a low usage position in this offense, so the investments are likely to be small, if any. I would never expect to see an elite TE in a Dave Canales offense. 100% agree on OL depth. We actually aren't bad there but BC will be gone, Mays is a UFA, Corbett is a UFA and Zavala has been both injured and bad. We have to bolster that depth again or resign guys like Mays and Corbett to keep that depth somewhat stable.
