Charlotte...Not a football city?

Recommended Posts

Buffalo struggles to sell out, to gain interest and investment for a new stadium, and is constantly threatened with relocation away from Western NY, only saved by a clause in its lease.

All people connected with the club say is "There are cities around that aren't football cities but keep their franchise".

Improve your form and the city may become more football-friendly. And keep Trump and his circus away.

He did say "when they lose". I wouldn't go as far as saying we aren't a football city, but it's pretty pathetic at BoA when the Panthers suck

But still better than Tampa and Jacksonville (who ironically stated that they were such a better football city than us on inception).

Half of all residents of Buffalo and Cleveland from Joe's day are here now anyway.

Let's frame this. Joe DeLamielleure lives in Charlotte. He listens to WFNZ and sometimes calls in. He's depressed and suffering from CTE.

He lives here, he knows about the transplants and fickle fans. He's probably witnessed our crowd first hand. And he's listened to the morons that call in to WFNZ. Compared to Bills fans, he might be right. The team does take a hit when they don't play well. Fans do stick to the Cowboys, Steelers, and Redskins instead of support the local team. To me he is part right. It's not fair to the real fans. We probably have more real fans than the Buffalo Bills, but we also have more fair weather fans than the Bills.

Another thing, we have a rich College Basketball tradition here along with NASCAR and Golf. What does Buffalo have? What does Cleveland have?  Football is it.

Oh without question. We still have quite a ways to go though.

It's well known that Joe DeLamielleure is an utter prick.

I remember hearing him on a radio broadcast in Ohio in 02 when he said the Browns (yes, the Browns) would beat us by 40 points.

He always sounds pretty damned cool when hes been a guest in local radio. Seemed he had adopted the Panthers.....are you sure?

random, but an interesting point I'm going to hijack here..  if half of the residents of Charlotte (let's include Raleigh, same thing occurs there too) are transplants..  and really, I come across a much higher ratio day to day on a smaller scale... then who exactly are yankees complaining about that can't drive in the snow down here?

it is in fact these same people...

He lived in Charlotte for a while. I heard he moved. My buddy's fam lived in Medearis off of Sardis Rd and Joe lived in that area. His adopted asian son would come and try to sell his parents kitchen knives. I've never met the guy but I heard he can kinda be a jerk. Loudest guy in the room sorta thing.

    • I was honestly flabbergasted to see Rod send out Stanky and the boys to to matchup against their top line to start the game. The reason that line has been so effective is because they've been matched mostly against 2nd and 3rd lines all year. You've got last change. Use it to your advantage.
    • Nobody played well on defense last night. But, the vitriol towards Chatfield (and to a lesser extent, K'andre) is bigly misplaced. People (not just you) just refuse to accept how bad Slavin has been this season. And, I get it. Canes fans (and informed analysts) have spent nearly a decade trying to explain to casuals just how good Jaccccob is at hockey. 4Nations happened and the hockey watching public started to listen. National media even started floating the idea of creating a new award in his honor. Then this season, he gets hurt. It happens. NBD. But, when he finally came back, it wasn't the same. He'll get back to his old self in no time. Probably just some rust, it'll be fine. Only, it wasnt rust, and he's not fine. He's bad right now. It wasnt just last night. Although, that was absolutely the worst game of his NHL career. Slavin (-4) currently has the 3rd worst +/- of anyone left in the playoffs. We've  been begging the world to recognize Jaccob Slavin's greatness. And, by the time we finally got people to listen, he shits the bed! I blame Kash!
    • According to Scott Fowler, in an article about former Panthers announcer applying for a job with the Ravens... what that job pays, incidentally, when the Ravens posted it publicly they said the salary would be $4,000 to $5,000 per game. An NFL season consists of 20-24 games, including the preseason and potential playoff games, so it will end up somewhere between $80,000 and $120,000 a year. The person hired will be an independent contractor, which is commonplace in the NFL these days for team broadcasters, and also have other radio and TV hosting assignments.  https://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/nfl/carolina-panthers/article315839800.html
