PFF: Kuechly among NFL's most overrated.

His coverage ability is iffy, at best.  Otherwise he's pretty a pretty awesome player.

I think Luke's coverage is pretty good for a MLB.  Sure it needs some work, but he makes some big plays out there.  Overall it is pretty tough to find great coverage MLBs that aren't sorely lacking in other areas.

Thing about PFF grades is they don't (and can't) factor in intangibles, which is what Luke excels at.  His play recognition, pre snap reads and ability to command the defense into favorable situations are what make Luke so valuable.

So over the Racism!

We have a top notch black QB and a top notch white MLB on the same team.

We are breaking barriers my friends! Stereotypes are falling.

Now we just need an elite black LT and an elite white CB. We will then become the most overlooked team in the NFL.

Luke's coverage ability will get better. He has the speed and awareness, he just needs to work on his foot work when dropping back and get a better understanding how to cut off routes. Those things can be learned. He is still just a pup. Scary for other teams.

Is there a link to this article?

Anyway, I don't think this is exactly breaking news. Anyone(like me) who uses PFF and/or read their articles already know that' how they feel about him.

BTW saying someone is overrated is not saying he sucks.

They just don't think he's elite but they do recognize he's a really good player. While I disagree they do bring up valid points, missed tackles, coverage issues.

I think its cause he is behind a top 2 d line.....everyone thinks that the dline is reason Carolina is good...

they are right. the unit of hardy,kk,star,cj is what makes the defense great. linebackers are not important like that even though they are great. then you have c- corner backs, who benefit from the dline.

1pass rushers.............2cover corners..............3linebackers(in order of importance)

I still don't think he over rated.I also feel like they are only saying it because he won the dpoy award.  they probably feel it should have gone to the stlouis de or Sherman.

    • That should have been this year. Tough to sell to anyone worth getting when this crew is going into year 3 on the hot seat. I still think keeping Evero will sink them all after last year's showing. If/when he is scapegoated they need to show improvement or it's likely to be so eone else's problem next year. I do agree in principle tho, it all should have happened after last year's problems.
    • I've listened to some things that have calmed the "Bryce was flat out terrible" to just "he was really bad" in Week 1. It's Year 3 though, and that shouldn't be the barometer. I've got 1% hope left for Bryce, and that's just blind homerism coming out.  I'm scared that as much emphasis as the team places on advanced stats and PFF that the team *doesn't* think Bryce was that bad in Week 1. Couple that with so many of the QBs in the league looking rough, offense being down in general, and I feel like there's a lot of "what if's" going on in the building instead of facing the music.  Lose Week 2, and we should switch the main focus back to building/churning the roster, evaluating young guys, and hoping our next QB can have a Jayden Daniels level of impact. As we're all well too aware of, QB is a crapshoot a lot of the time. Admit we made a bad pick, and go draft another. And another. Repeat until correct.
    • I wouldn't want any of those starting as a rookie on day 1.  That said, we need a vet, that is not Andy Dalton, that can be the starter while a prospect grows and learns on the sidelines.
