Tiny Richardson turning heads with Vikings

no this is the "we're going 0-16 if we don't draft da'rick rogers" guy who made a thread (after the saints beatdown on SNF so it was very well-received) beating his chest about a 107 yd 2 td game last season. worth noting that those would be his only touchdowns and half of his total yardage for the entire season.

0-16 if no Da'Rick? Not I. Although I will, for the first time btw, refer to this Colts writer who says Da'Rick literally "saved their season"- http://www.stampedeblue.com/2014/1/27/5350100/did-colts-wr-darick-rogers-prove-his-worth-in-2013

Also right that I didn't make a Hurst tread fwiw.

This deserved an entire thread? Because he went to Tennessee?

No. Because as recently as this very offseason he was a potential first round pick who held his own against Clowney. I was steadfastly against using a high pick on him, but as an UDFA when Ja'waun James was a #19 overall? I'm pro Panthers and GMan but the Vikings got a risk free steal. Yes, it hurts and yes, it's still the offseason.

Couple of things...

1) As has been stated numerous times, how good or bad anyone looks in OTAs doesn't mean much.  We've had our fair share of offseason stars who disappeared once they put the pads on.  Likewise we've seen guys no one talked about who stepped up their game when the live bullets started flying.

So although OTA performances are interesting discussion topics, it's wise not to put too much stock in them when it comes to most players (even less when it comes to linemen on either side of the ball.

2) It's not a 'bad thing' when other teams get good players.  It's a normal thing.

No single team is ever going to get all the good players, all the draft steals, all the great undrafteds, etc.(be a pretty lousy league if it did work that way).  Every year other teams improve.  No point whining about it as long as your team also improves.  As far as the undrafteds go, we'll get some guys we target and others we won't, but either way come August more of them will be going home than will be staying.

Bottom Line: Other teams are going to get good players, but so will we.  It would only be bad if they got good players and we got none.  And although skewed fan perspectives think that happens all the time, it really doesn't.

^ True, but football is a game of inches where I want every one we can get. Coaches make millions to exploit weaknesses. Even Stevie Wonder could see our need last year at WR and need this year at OT. To read that Rogers saved Luck(y)'s season makes my skin crawl. To read Tiny's turning heads after we don't even draft an OT should make anyone miffed. Also true about not getting everyone, but our need/desirability should trump Minnesota. Still love GMan.

you have a vested interest in this as a tennessee homer.

we saw the exact same talk out of tar heels fans over hurst.  the difference is there are enough wal mart UNC fans on this board to have something of an echo chamber going on in those threads.

i mean using this approach shouldn't we stop worrying about wide receiver because philly brown was "turning heads" in OTAs?  maybe there's an ohio state fan that could drop by and tell us about the "low risk/high reward stud" we nabbed with that pick signing since he looks great in shorts?

Guys guys guys ......

The Panthers never offered him anything. The dude lived on my floor and I spoke to many people who were familiar with his situation. He went undrafted because teams were concerned with his weight. Kind of surprised me but that's just what I've heard.

While Tiny has held his own against Clowney, he went all Julius Peppers in that he'd struggle the next game against some unknown freshman scrub. While I think he's a great player, there's a reason he went undrafted.

As for DaRick, that guy is dumber than rocks and could only properly run 3 routes. Other football players I would talk to would always comment on how he was incredibly lazy and unwilling to work. You don't want that attitude on your team.

Come on. No player, not one, from any school, went from a potential first round pick to undrafted except Antonio Richardson. No team (that I know of) has a tackle situation as dire as ours either. And for the record I was A-OK bringing Hurst in too, just never posted on it.

    • PJ's completion % was 63% when starting games in Carolina.  Which I believe is better than Bryce when starting.  And again, 4-3 as the starter here and the LONE QB Carolina has been able to actually win with in the Tepper era.  If you ask a gambling gunslinger to come into blowouts.....they are going to go down in a blaze of glory.  Which he would do.  Yeah, he isn't good.  And gunslingers are supposed to have rockier stats than checkdown QBs.   So....why does PJ Walker have a better comp % as a starter than Bryce Young.  And for every knock you want to make about PJ, you can find something or a skillset that PJ does better than Bryce.   I didn't say PJ had good field vision.  He doesn't.  Tell me about Bryce after he comes off the first read lol.  Let me repeat, PJ Walker is not a good QB.  He is NFL depth and an in house arm.  Bryce Young doesn't belong in a convo w/ Jake and Cam.  He belongs closer in a convo with the backup caliber QBs Carolina was forced into playing.  Which isn't just PJ Walker.  But Kyle Allen.  Moore.  Guys like that.
    • Oh I see what you meant by memory. I will trust my memory, I have looked a a lot of those ball charts for Bryce and they trend a general pattern. They thing that has changed that I have noticed more recently is the reduction in the bunching of behind or at  the LOS passes over to his right.  Aside from the quantity of throws recently since the running game has become a more dominant factor.
    • Yes but you basically said you are going from a quick skim of those charts without doing the same for Bryce and/or Andy. So you are going memory vs. snapshots. That's not going to be a very comprehensive analysis.
