How Many Years Do You Give MKG?

Simple question...

How many years do you give MKG to develop a jump shot before you move on (via letting him walk in free agency or trade) or relegate him to a back-up position?

Do you wait until Big Al retires, since MKG helps mask some of Al's defensive deficiencies or do you try to find a player who is both good offensively and defensively in the next one to two years?

2 more years. He's young. If he can develop a jump shot he can be an all star. Currently, he's just a defensive 6th man honestly. But I would hate to cut him lose, only to watch him become a a defensive head case who can average 18 a game in a few years

I disagree, I think his lack of jumper hurts his inside game right now.  He could develop a jumper, then people would be wary of his shot and pump fake more.  This will allow him to really show off his slashing ability that you already see flashes of.

I agree with the two years but more importantly I want to see him working his but off this summer developing his shot. Deep down I feel he's going to shock us all this upcoming season.

The kid is fantastic at getting to the rim and scoring. The problem is, he can't stretch defenders outside so they just close off lanes and dare him to shoot. His athletic ability is off the charts. If he can get a decent jumpshot then he is more than capable of being an all star type player

The question is what return can we get from MKG that would make it worth giving up on him?

I don't see a lottery team giving up their draft pick for him. We might tempt a team in the mid first round to give up a pick, perhaps Chicago with one of their two, or maybe a team like OKC if they want a guy that can bring defense and a project shooter. But is that enough to make us give up on him?

I'm not convinced. The kid had a ton of talent, and if he can develop a jump shot and offensively in general, then he will be a very good player for this team. He's still very young, and he should be given the time to improve. What I could see us doing if we keep our draft picks is looking at a scorer like McDermott in the lottery or Warren later on. But I'd like to see MKG stay here because hopefully with more coaching he'll develop into the star he was drafted to be.

Depends on what his value is right now, and what you can get in return for him individually or as a part of a package.

Its different for all, but even after two full years there should be some sign of hope. The best improvement most times comes after the first full year, that second pre-season should be the biggest improvement of ones career. I have a fairly good eye for b-ball, mkg needs to train his mental jumper also. Who knows how long that will take, few have suddenly gotten a good jumper 10 years later after having a poor one for nine. Azria seemed to find his long/mid/overall jumper after years of being a driver. Remember mkgs age is still very young, at least he's a hard worker.

Have I missed the rule that all of the players on the team need to be All-Stars? I can bet that the Heat and the Spurs could use a player like MKG on their roster so why can't we?

 

I think we are all blinded by the #2 that we are failing to realize that a NBA roster has many different players of different strengths and quality. Now I for one am not willing to say if he doesn't learn to shoot than get rid of him because his defense is obviously a huge asset for us as a team.

 

I am also not willing to say that we shouldn't try to upgrade the position because if we aren't looking to get better what's the point.

 

The fact is this, there are uses for the MKGs and Zellers of the world. They have potential and if they reach it jackpot, if they don't we have 2 quality reserves which gives us a great deal of depth in the future.

I was the MKG biggest dick rider on this board when he came out. I gave him 2-3 years, but now I'm going to have to give him 5-7 years. It's just that damn bad!

But, that's not going to stop me from drafting his replacement now or next year.
