Worst thing Arizona can do

Recommended Posts

Is to give in and redo Patrick Peterson's deal.  Though they could pay him after 2014 but if they allow him to hold out and force them to give him a new deal.  Then the rookie salary cap will have been a waste of time.    All the benefits of the 5th year option will go out the window and every good rookie will hold out.

Opinions?

Maybe you should....I think the OP's point is that if Peterson does hold out what is to stop other players around the league, under their rookie contract, from doing the same?  An interesting situation actually.  Peterson doesn't really have a case because of the CBA but stranger things have happened, especially when a popluar (and arguably the best DB, fug you Sherman) player is involved.

Peterson does have a case to hold out. The new CBA only prevents new players from forcing a new deal after years 1 or 2 (a la Chris Johnson). Therefore he can force the team in to giving him a new deal after year 3 or else be without his services until they do.

Now the teams don't have to give in because they have them under contract for a 4th season and an option for a 5th if they were a 1st rounder. But new players do have a right to hold out after their 3rd season if they want.

    • I simply acknowledge BY is the QB.  And just like we did when we drafted him.....the type O you would need to setup around him for success was always pretty simple.  But we have done virtually the opposite.  XL dropping some passes isn't why we were ranked the 32nd O and 30th passing the past 2 years.  *Ricky Prohel was brought up only in regards to role function he served on the team.  Niche/specialist.   He wasn't eating up the snaps in the O.    AT should have a similar snap %. People could MAUL Ricky Prohel and put hands all over him.   We got to the Super Bowl in part because we were mauling guys (our slot CB).   You can't do that now.  AT has a MUCH easier life and still can't get open.  Or run.    If you live in 3 WR sets, with a weak armed QB, and you choose to put someone who can't get open or run in the slot.......well, your are going to have a weak pass O.  That's by design IMO.
    • Thielen's yards per reception was higher last year than any of Renfrows career.  His per game productivity last year as an old slow receiver the same as Renfrows 1 good season. These things are easy to find.
    • With 1 more game but yeah hopefully Canales is better, obviously Rhule sucked. Better than Reich though and jury out on DC. Of course Wilks’ interim stint was the best we’ve had since 2017 but I give Tepper zero credit for that
