Gil Brandt names six teams that could 'take a step back' this season

This article reads no different than any of the other numerous lazy opinion pieces we've seen so far this offseason.

Include the fact that he has the Seahawks as one of the six teams, well, that's all you need to know.

He and others certainly have valid reasons for believing that we will take a step back. I just hope that they are wrong.

And that's pretty much the prevailing story line of our off-season.

Anybody that is not a fan of the Panthers has to look at our off-season and wonder how we are going to keep it going. Unless you actually have a clue, you have to have questions. I can see that.

Hellz, there are 32 teams. You can't expect every so called "Expert" to know everything going on. It is rare that a writer does the homework needed to do a valid write-up.

I say. Let the games begin. We can/will show the naysayers what we have. This team is too good, to well coached, and too hungry to fall off the map.

Well, if you take into account that it is damm difficult to repeat as SB Champs. I can see how they have to take a step back. They are still a very good team. They, like us, are not going to fall off the map.

Saying they will take a step back is an easy way of saying that they will not repeat the same success. It is not saying much, while making it sound like you have something to say.

He started off for both us, and the Seahawks by citing history first and foremost as his reasoning for why the teams will take a step back this year. I've got nothing against Gil Brandt, but we've got posters here on the huddle who can provide us with this type of analysis.

It's just that time of year unfortunately.

Jmac is right on with this we still have the top reciever from last year its the tightend but I think what we have on the roster is better than what we had last year hands wise there were alot of dropped balls in critical situations last year (lafell) other than offensive tackle I think we are a better team.

That is one of my pet peeves about most Huddlerz. Using history to predict the future. History can be a useful tool. But in and of itself? Not so much.

Like I said, it is easier to use history than to do your homework, make an analysis, and come up with a valid observation. I know with 32 teams it may be time consuming to do it the right way. But, if you are going to do it. Do it right.

Nah, that would be asking too much.

Take a look at last year's Ravens.

    • if  ANYONE actually goes & looks at the FACTS on rookie Qb's after 2 full seasons as a starter in the NFL & they are still well below average do they rarely ever actually become top tier Qb's & instead most likely either do not recieve a second contract & or become life long backups...just saying
    • So he became GM and decided not to address the weakness in the QB room following one of the worst rookie QB performances in NFL history?  There were options last season other than signing Dalton to a 2 year deal. Brissett and Jones by a wide margin, both of whom outplayed Bryce, Wilson, Winston, hell even Rivers off the couch was more exciting at the QB position. The time to address the failure in the QB room was last year but instead people on the Huddle cheered when we brought Dalton back then cheered when we were able to get anything for him after they finally realized he was washed up like a few of had been saying all along and got poo'd for even mentioning.  This year, the options were more limited obviously, especially since we lost Icky. It changed the dynamic of our draft. I think we were stuck this year keeping Bryce, but i still think giving him a 5th year option for what has amounted to replacement worthy performance was the wrong move. Why guarantee 25m if you're planning to replace him? You think he's going to want to be a bridge QB? Hell no. He's going to want out and we'll end up cutting him if he has another lackluster season because no one is trading for him with that price tag.  Were there better options as far as production available. A couple. Were there guys available with more physical tools than Bryce, Pickett or Grier, you damn well better believe there were. I've been saying all along, you always keep looking for your 1b. Bryce has yet to prove he can be a starter. Keep looking for someone who may. Put competition in camp. Let the best QB lead the team. Stop settling for less than mediocre.
