David Newton: Cam is earning respect

top dawg

Recommended Posts

OK, when I first saw David Newton's short little piece, like so many others this time of year, I just said "yeah yeah" and said it's barely newsworthy. But then I thought about it, and actually it's pretty damned good.

When your peers think highly of you, especially as an NFL player and QB, it means something.  Not to mention that Cam Newton has legitimately made a great leap on the field from his rookie season, and a huge leap off the field regarding his leadership and maturity.  Kudos to Cam!

The two-time Pro Bowl selection came in at No. 24 on the NFL Network's list of the league's top 100 players voted on by his peers. That's up 22 spots from last season.

Thank goodness that he is ranked higher than Kaepernick! Can I get an Amen?

[Now for the trolling part, which I never do]

And thank you, football gods, that he is ranked ahead of the demigod that is Andrew Luck. :P

Seriously, Cam deserves the ascension in regards to the respect of his peers.

Now, if only other NFL fans would stop "hating" on Cam due to historical Cam bashing by media sharks and pilot fish...

Continue to kill 'em, Cam!

Put him on an average team and then judge him. I've seen Can with absolutely nothing.. No O no D, and he breaks rookie records.

What about Luck? He's on an average team that got worse as the season went on and still got into the playoffs with a good stat season too.

these comparisons are so silly

Wilson has a ring. When Cam gets his ring he should be #1 soon at the rate he is moving up the list.

I respect luck. Luck and Cam are the best young QBs. Kaep and Wilson and ride their stacked team

We would have beaten Seattle if it wasn't for that unbelievable play by Wilson.  I'm not getting into comparing Newton with Wilson. Obviously I'm a Newton fan. I'm just saying your slightly delusional if you think Wilson is merely average.

Being likable goes a long way. Wilson is likable...so far. Cam went up because he is likable... Kaep...#81 says something.

Wilson is too damned positive and upbeat IMO. Seems forced. He's the new Peyton Manning when it comes to annoying positivity.

AFC South team vs an NFC South team. apples to oranges. Luck's team is average i agree with that, but he is in arguably the worst division in the NFL. Luck went one and done last year in the playoffs and would have done the same thing again this year if they would have stayed healthy. The chiefs were up 31 to 3 at half time. No Jamal Charles, Knile Davis, Donnie Avery, Brandon Flowers, or Justin Houston. If The chiefs stay healthy they win that game in a blowout.

    • Nobody on the huddle is saying we have an elite group offensively across the board. They aren't great. They're young. If you are expecting someone to agree with your position of blaming everyone around Bryce Young nearly three full seasons into his career you are going to be left holding the bag save for a handful of people who act like they are paid to defend his honor. Bryce Young is not a guy who has had to claw and fight his way into starting jobs in football. He's had the best to work with and been gifted roles since he was a teenager. The Panthers have one of the youngest rosters in the league and with us needing an infusion of young defensive talent in the upcoming draft we're only going to get younger. We need a QB who possesses the ability to elevate those around him. If you can't agree with me on that then there's nothing further to discuss.
    • All Bryce and the Panthers had to do was split with the Saints and a rookie QB. The bar was so low. They even had a whole bye week to prepare. The time for singing kumbaya was before that game. Anyone still talking about Bryce earning a second contract 43 games into his career is living a fantasy. He might get one from the Tepper owned Panthers but he's damn sure not earned it.
