First Job Interview (Post College)

So I got the call today to come in for a final interview. It's next Wednesday so I have time to get cleaned up(haircut, shave, nice shirts). It was a really casual call. He told me I was one of the final choices and he'd like me to come in to observe a broadcasting session. It's not a stress test I would strictly be observing and attached to his hip the whole day. By the way the person I've been speaking with is the Chief Editor and we really seem to have a connection. But anyway after the broadcast is over he wants me to meet the News Director and have a sit down with the 3 of us. Really excited and nervous!

Sounds like you have one foot in the door.

Usually when they want to spend that much time with you, it's a done deal.

It may sound dorky/geeky, but I would have a pen and small pad in my back pocket to jot down notes throughout the day.

I have been doing my job for 10 years and am the second longest tenured employee at my company, and I rarely go to a sales meeting without a pen and paper even though I don't need to at all.

Just be yourself and be as prepared as you can. No canned answers. Have confidence in yourself and remember that not only are you pitching yourself to them but they are also selling themselves to you.

Today is the fuging day. Shaved, fresh haircut, blue dress shirt, blue tie, black pants etc. Nervous as all hell. Wearing my Oakley prescription glasses to look professional and bringing a pen and notebook with me to take note. Interview is at 1:30 but I'll be there before one and then probably go in around 1:15. Wish me luck.

Speaking of black pants, I was talking to someone the other day (totally different fashion) about him always wearing black pants and black shoes.

The only "dark pants" I have are part of a suit.  I always wear khaki pants, and never black shoes unless it's a black tie affair.

Just a funny observation.

P.S. not sure why, but almost every single car salesman I know wears black or dark pants and black shiny shoes.

Black pants slim you down and make you be taken more seriously.

Not so sure that is the case, but to each his own.

It's just a different style, and not mine by any means.

Kinda like 20-30 somethings walking around in Jordans, just looks foolish to me.

    • FLA showed everyone it’s not about superstars. they bullied the best line in the NHL into obscurity. they played hard, were in the right positions, and ran over everything that got in their way.
    • That’s really not what you said and when I even expressed doubt as to your intentions with the post you doubled down and remained unclear on whether you were trying to drag Dean Smith for whatever reason. You just got the facts wrong, which if you don’t follow the local college programs like you say then maybe you just were mistaken and thought Smith didn’t win championships or have legit superstars, and that is ok, but you just doubled down when my first post was more corrective than anything. I’m not sure what you expect posting objectively false things like “RBA has a lot of wins with nothing to show for it like Dean Smith” (paraphrasing) on a message board with plenty of UNC fans. I’m not taking it as a personal affront, we can agree to disagree, Dean Smith’s legacy fortunately will not be affected by this conversation. Screw the (Florida) Panthers?
    • Bring in the free agents and trades.  Florida is the best team and unless Tulsky makes it happen, it’s more of the same…which isn’t bad…but it’s time to win a goddamn cup.
