Does anyone know how far out I need to go off Myrtle Beach/Little River to catch Mahi Mahi, Wahoo and other goodies?

Most of the charters out of Little River and Myrtle are going full day to the Gulfstream to get to the mahi. Read some of the fishing reports for the area, looks like if you're going to find any mahi (which nobody is really reporting any success), you'll need to head out to 25-30 miles.

You have to get to deep water so yeah 25 miles or so where it drops off.

See, Captain is my regular fishing guy.  I go out fishing with him 1-2 times a year.  He can take me 15 miles out for $500 (5 hours total trip) or 30 miles out for $675 (7 hours total trip).  We mostly do bottom fishing for Amber Jacks, Bass, Red Snappers, and etc.  Is it worth paying extra $200 for extra 15 miles?

Not when you can hit up any one of many fresh seafood shops and buy same-day mahi for less than $200 and less than 15 miles in a boat to find it.

True. I'm just doing it for fun but I agree $200 ain't worth it.

Thing is, you can keep an eye on the gulfstream and water temps and see what's happening closer to the coast later in the season, in which case you might be able to get to the mahi without having to go to 25-30 miles.

I'm not a big fisherman but I think for the fish you mention you don't need anything near a 15 mile trip. In outer banks guys go out for a couple hours and pick up amberjack. Like 1/2 mile out. I think they even get bass in the sound..

 

If you are going 30 miles out start looking for your wahoo, tuna, etc...
