Dalton signs 6 year deal......Cam watching

Not sure I agree with the "Cam deserves more than every QB who gets a new contract" sentiments.

His size and agility help him a great deal with his spells of inaccurate throws.  If he can get that under control, then I think he will be deserving of a huge payday.

Right, he needs to become the perfect QB. THEN we pay him.

it's everything like kaepernick's.

it wouldn't surprise me one bit if gettlemen offered newton the same contract structure.

it will be the new standard qb contract= you're paid until you screw up up, and then get out! its just business.

How would the world react if Cam took a middle of the road deal in order to help better build a winning team?

I've thought about it a lot. I just can't get my hopes up or expect him to do that. If he did though.. All his haters better shut up for good.

It's just not realistic, because in a way it's giving power back to the owners. They fight in the CBA to get as much money as they can, only to give money back to a billionaire? It's not sensible and I don't blame any athlete for getting as much as they can.

JR will not allow Gettleman to let Cam test the market. They'll likely use their 5th year option. And when the books are mostly clear of those ridiculous contracts, Cam will get PAID! I'm thinking $40-$50 million guaranteed.

They dare not allow him to test free agency. That would be the absolute worst thing this franchise could do.

According to PFT, the base of Dalton's salary is 6/96M, with escalators that can bring it to the 115 that's being reported

Also, $12m signing bonus plus a $5m roster bonus due in 3 days, so $17m basically upfront. Not sure if that's the extent of the guarantees or if there is more.

Not really true because it's still money that is used to sign other players. The point of the original post was to say Cam takes less money to sign higher rated free agents.

Five of the easy stances haters would take:

1.  Oh he's just doing it to get attention.

2.  He wasn't worth the money and he knew it.

3.  If he really wanted to win why didn't he take even less?

4.  When the Panthers start losing he can use this as an excuse to deflect blame.

5.  As soon as this new contract is up he's just going to go to another team to get paid.

Cam should end his HoF career here as one of the most loved players of all time.  I do hope perception changes over time because he's one of the greatest athletes the Carolinas have ever seen.

It's completely true. Owners didn't want to give up a higher percent of the revenue which would have increased the salary cap and in turn increased salaries, giving players more money. Then in contract negotiations fans bring up taking a pay cut for the good of the team. The owner of the team didn't want to take a pay cut for the good of the team and they're billionaires. How is someone like Cam, who came from nothing, suppose to feel in negotiations.

Look at LeBron and how he felt in Miami. He, Wade and Bosh take pay cuts to get together and put a team around them and then the owner amnesties Miller to save some money?
