The "If you take away this and then take away that and then take this away also the numbers aren't very good" is a weak argument.

Yes. If you subtract large portions of production from people/team stats, suddenly the overall stats aren't as good.

Lest we forget the TD's that KB, Dickson, and even Cotchery will add.

As far as Avant: Even he should pick up some more TD's with the attention KB, Olsen and Dickson should generate.

I just feel like cotchery and avant were never given real opportunities like they will have now with the panthers.

Stats tell one side of the story. Opportunities suggest something else I.e. Cotchery having ten Tds last year is an anomaly in a vacuum

When Cotchery was with the Jets they absolutely loved him.

Once he hurt his neck people forgot about him, until he came back last year with a bang at Pittsburgh.

But if he's healthy (which he may not have been until last season), he's a very good player.

i haven't researched him enough but when i see a guy who had like 200 yards and 2 tds in 2 years and then exploded for 10 tds (on top of what i have heard on here about his opportunities elsewhere) i tend to think that he was put in a good position to succeed this past year.

i know jets fans loved that dude though. I remember thinking Avant was pretty solid in Philly and i think he has the potential to just be that in this offense. We've heard about last year and his struggles in Chip Kelly's offense. The bulk though is gonna go to KB, cotchery, olsen and dickson/williams depending on who comes out on top. Add Stewart to the mix if he remains healthy in the passing game and that's not too shabby. It's not close to otherworldly but it's not like we have a bunch of legadoooooos out there.

My hope is that we find some sort of late round/UDFA gem or get Cam another weapon in one of the first two rounds next year. I wanna a speedster for Cam.

but then again it will probably be a corner or safety, who really knows.  Honestly if KB turns out as expected we are in damn good shape.

the problem with shula and the toys that he has is that he reminds me of a toy collector that hordes toys and dreams about all the wonderful things that can be done with these toys, but keeps them in a box on the shelf.

a toy kept in a box is useless, btw. i don't care how much financial value it has, it's true purpose is to be played with and that's where it's real value is.

all these toys that shula has now will be worthless unless they are used. he has to open up this offense and he's going to really have to work hard to go against that conservative nature of his to use them fully.

Isnt this why we brought in Ramsdell ?

i would hope so. i have yet to see any definition of his role beyond a good bit of assumptions that i and others made.

his impact on the team won't likely be seen until the season starts. i haven't seen any questions to players, the coaching staff, or gettleman about what he's doing here. imo, that is where a lot of the beat reporters are dropping the ball. ok, one of many places they are, but still this is something that i would like to know more about.

Good to see all those who don't like Shula are alive and well. Why don't we wait until at least the 1/4 mark of the season before criticizing him? He just might surprise. One thing that I know is that many of you have already made your mind up about him and even if he gets into the top 10 teams offensively you would still find something to complain about.

Cotchery and Avant might be ok, but I don't think they are anything special. The passing game this year will hinge on Olsen and Benjamin's development.

I don't think they were brought here to be special (hopefully solid).  Their contribution will go beyond the stat sheet on Sunday.

Shula was perfectly fine last year. We wanted to run a ground and pound, time of possession offense and we did just that and went 12-4. People dont realize that because of our offense last year, the D was able to rest a ton and hence thats why our D was so dominate.

Holy pooh.. I just pie'd and actually fully agree with something CharlottePanther posted... Did I wake up to an alternate universe or something? I'm getting worried right now. Very good point CP very good point.

depends on what you mean by "fine".  Definitely good enough, and I'm not one to complain about what he's doing.  He did a fantastic job at meeting Cam's needs (enough deep targets, an eye toward 3rd down that Chud couldn't find with GPS and a midget guide).   Being conservative is cool, too.  I'm not bagging on that.

But, he could improve.  2nd down was kinda gritty.  Conservative doesn't mean boring, necessarily, and there were times the O just couldn't generate much.  He gets too much crap for not being a thinker or looking at new ways to do stuff - and for being the 26th overall O when some of that's by design - but he can bring his game up, use the new toys well.

Cam can improve a bit there too - he took the backs essentially only when they were a screen outlet, not for dumpoffs, and yet we have backs that are good in space.  I'm not putting that right on Shula, and am partially throwing that at Cam.  The intent isn't there to say it's on either - Cam is going to make his read, though I can't say it's something Shula pushes, either.

As for those asking about Ramsdell, he'll play a role in gameplanning and design for sure, but I would discount the idea that he'll be forcing Shula to do anything he wouldn't do.  Should be more sounding board and advisor, and that should be of great help.
