Training Camp Wrapup - August 11

Is it just me or do the coaches really, really love Kelvin? He's really being treated like a thoroughbred and prized jewel. It appears they are convinced he's gonna be a star. I don't recall Luke, Star, or to an extent Cam being treated this way as rookies. They just light up when talking about him and he's the focal point of the off season.

Then again, it may just be added excitement because he fills a major hole this team has had for nearly a decade.

I know there was a lot of talk about Brandin Cooks and evidently he has been looking really good for N.O. early on, but more and more I get the feeling that Gettleman and staff got the exact guy they wanted.

I wanted KB bad after watching a lot of ACC football this season (UNC fan), but waffled some in the off-season.  I've gotta just quit reading pre-draft "analyst" bullshit on guys who I've actually watched through the season.

Yes, Kelvin appears very good.

However, he can be the missing link (or at least the beginning/threshold) of a very good team.

Cam and Luke were the early foundations for the team, before they knew they were good. Star, etc., only added to it.

Kelvin, can make the Panthers legit for the next 10 years.

We'll see?

If Getts knew what he looked like wearing shorts, he would never wear shorts.

What's up with the knee?  Yikes.

With how he looks and gets around, he can't be healthy.  Seriously ... he should take advantage of the resources around him and spend some time with the strength & conditioning coaches.  Used to think 'nipple shorts' was funny ... now I just feel bad for him.

OH, if you've actually watched a guy, you're the best one to make judgements on him vs media.

Just think of what you know of regarding the Panthers vs National media?

Most of these guys haven't watched teams play they talk about. It's all guess work, or Group Speak.

Even scouts, get stuff wrong often (which is why I didn't mind KB was drafted 28th), cause many times you have high draft picks that suck, and lower draft picks that end up being all pro players. It's a crap shoot in the end.

With KB; Gettleman and crew, obviously saw what you, I and other Panther fans did.

Can't wait to see the next Pre-Season, and eventually real games.

Fortunately for us however, even other GM's must have read the fears, just as they must have read/believed with Star last year for different reasons.  Turn on the tape, use the eyeball test, and it is what it is-an absolute thoroughbred of a football player that I would not trade for anyone in this entire draft class because it filled such a need with such quality.

I just love saying it as I have so many times on this forum-his college coach said he would be a top 3 pick if he came back, he comes from a high school that has produced more NFL players than any other, won a national championship at F$U, and has physical skills that don't even currently exist in this league.

Amazing.

"Holding, number 86, offense....ten yard penalty, replay the down."

That pic of KB though, damn.  I know he's big, but in that picture - maybe the depth perception - he looks freaking gigantic!

Excellent recap as always

Hope Swole Bones doesnt make a habit of blocking like this, he'll get flagged every time.

Nah not really thats how they are taught to block and in the trenches where he will be blocking this will not get flagged as long as he doesnt continue to hold when the defender makes a move to get free.  Thats pretty sound technique, i would like to see his hands on the inside though.

One thing I saw today was Norman getting dogged in one on one drills. Avant got him with a stutter step and Benjamin was just too much. Marcus Lucas also had a nice route during these drills. His defender (I can't remember who) bit on a double move and it drew cheers from the crowd.

    • If Henderson just got a concussion and will possibly/probably now miss next week as well, gotta think missing 2 games of stats at this point of the year might knock him out as he was only just entering the discussion the last few weeks anyways.  Same goes for Judkins going down today too, and Dart's god awful game likely removes him from the conversation as well. It will be interesting to see how the voters compare T-Mac and Egbuka if they end up with stats that are nearly identical. Egbuka burst onto the scene and put up the bulk of his stats early in the year when Baker was playing like the MVP front runner.  While T-Mac was just more consistent throughout the course of the full season (ex. Egbuka has 8 games of 42 yards or less, T-Mac has 4 of them, while T-Mac still scored 3 TDs in those 4 games, where Egbuka only scored 1 TD in his 8). It would be a shame if they put too much weight on the final game of the season if that ends up being the division decider, as I think T-Mac has had the better SEASON while Egbuka had a better peak output during that first month or so but way cooled off since. Maybe Warren goes off in the last 3 games (they still play tomorrow), but it does seem to be down to T-Mac and Egbuka right now.
    • Mitchell Evan’s put a block on someone that he drove them all the way out of bounds and to the bench. He absolutely destroyed the guy. He’s gonna be a beast for us if he keeps that up.
    • Yall... stop taking a sample size and projecting a role player into a permanent starter cuz he had a decent year after what, 5? Come on
