I've been in the field with rattlesnakes for years and I've killed two. One I hit with a vehicle because I couldn't see him until the last second. The other was a baby that I pushed away with my foot that kept trying to attack me.

I did a three week survival camp in Idaho once. Looked a lot like that. Saw lots of rattlers but never a nest. They taste decent enough. I heard a year prior a dude fell into a nest like that though.

searching for and photographing them has been a hobby of mine for years. I've kept and bred them too, and other snakes.

and I've never killed any snake of any kind. ever. awesome animals.

There was a huge nest by a mountain biking trail a few years ago. I'll see if I can find pics but they're not mine. They're the best at camouflage. I tried to take a picture of one that had been ran over on a dirt road. The picture is worthless because you can't see him

I've seen (or not seen) their camouflage at work many times. It's incredible.

I shot a big timber rattler in my back yard a couple weeks ago. About 4 1/2 feet long and had 13 rattles.  I love animals but I have my limits - when they threaten my family or pets they cross the line.  This one threatened my wife so it got a load of # 4 buckshot in the head.
