Chances Bersin could be our number 2 at WR

It's funny how people can say they want this or that particular guy to be the 2 or the 3 or not be the 3rd string or even make a roster.

I want the 2 to be the 2 and the 4 to be the 4.

I could care less what the name on the back is. The singular most importantly sign of good coaching is identifying the talent and utilizing it properly.

I doubt any coach worth his salt gives a wet poot who actually fills the spot. They just want capable people battling for it.

Doubt he starts because of the politics of it but based on play this preseason, it's hard to argue against it. He's been pretty darn good. Him playing against scrubs doesn't mean his hands will suddenly get worse when he plays against starters. And I think it is his hands that most people are excited about. Is he a better player than Lafell? Probably not. But he's playing better now than Lafell did much of last year. We'll just see how he does with more reps against better competition.

Yet as I said a many a time before, I always like my second option at receiver to be able to take over a game if need be.

Yea everyone would love that dude, but you only really see that every once in a while. Greenbay not too long ago, 08 Cardinals, greatest show on turf...

I'd absolutely love it if he won the #2 spot.

If we have 2 young guys at receiver who are able to make an impact on game day... well it just makes our future that much brighter.  We've got youth and talent at so many positions and just a couple weaknesses to figure out before this team is a true NFL juggernaut.

Being able to check off wide receiver as no longer a need next year will really minimize the positions in need of addressing.

The #2 spot is something he has to get to gradually since he wasn't highly drafted. He put himself in the position not to be highly drafted. Can't just get a #2 spot while he hasn't proven anything. Might as well give him the #1 spot while we're at it.

He wasn't drafted at all.

He played for Wofford.  If your not playing division 1 ball in NCAA you're extremely lucky to be drafted, regardless of ability.

If he's outplaying the guys we currently have, why not have him be our #2? Granted, I haven't personally seen anything besides his two preseason catches last week because I can't go to the practices so I have no idea where/if he should be on our depth chart.

I just want the best guys on our team on the field, regardless of their pedigree.

I'd be extremely worried if Bersin won the #2 spot.

I'd be extremely excited.  It would mean that he is without a doubt better than Avant and Cotchery who are proven, solid players.  I'd love a receiver on this team who is better than "solid".

    • That makes me wonder, how many starting tackles in the NFL and/or elite tackles have short arms? I feel like there’s probably lots of tackles that end up being drafted in later rounds because they had short arms or didn’t have the physical tools.     also why not draft a tackle in the later rounds that we could move to guard or center if they fail, instead of drafting a center? If we draft a center we know they aren’t going to play tackle but if you draft a tackle they could end up playing any of the 3 positions, look at BC for example. It feels like it’s a better decision to draft a tackle in later rounds than a center.
    • Damn back to 10th. I only caught the last 5 minutes but some of those 3's were horrible lol. In that close of game you can't be launching those many hail mary's when you could be chipping away from the foul line. I guess no one wanted to get in the paint and didn't trust the refs to give them the calls maybe? Gonna watch the highlights to get a better idea of the flow of the game
    • I agree.  The Big 12 is a good conference, and he is the swinging dick in that conference.  If Bill Self retires, that sets Kansas back a bit, and Arizona moves even further ahead as the best team in that conference.  Arizona can crush west coast recruiting with USC / UCLA no longer being relevant for LA kids, and Gonzaga not being able to compete moneywise.   If Lloyd comes here, he will be second fiddle to Duke every single year in NIL and recruits.  Not to mention the entire SEC and Big East for kids who want to stay in those regions to play. This is why I keep saying go get Mark Few.  Has proven he can do more with less from an X / O perspective but can also recruit All American players and compete at a high level. He's a god at Gonzaga, but for $9M he'd make the move as that's 4x what he's making at Gonzaga, and makes him the highest paid coach in the country.
