D.Williams Running To Line Up As WR

This has been happening for quite some time now. Can someone explain to me the reasoning for it? The point? Why not put an actual receiver in on that play and take D.Will out? And D.Will dont go to the slot, he goes all the way out which doesn't even bring a linebacker

I'm trying hard to remember that every time that happens, the play is a quick throw from Cam

It causes the defense to alter CBs. Williams sole purpose is simply to force the opponent to have to switch CBs on our WR

What do you mean by alter CBs on our WR. When D.Will goes out, the defense puts a corner on him as if he's a WR. The play usually results in Cam not even looking on that side of the field he's on

It's about personnel. The defense has to send in a package that can play the run, even when we end up going five wide.

This has happened for yrs and the pass NEVER goes his way.

Sent from my SPH-L710 using CarolinaHuddle mobile app

Exactly.  Even if it technically puts a CB on an RB out there, the CB is still going to anticipate.  I think it's out-dated considering the faster defenses nowadays.

But that's the thing, we put 3 WR and Olsen. So their package is to play the pass. When D.Will goes out, it makes it 4 WR, 5 wide. The corner thats out there always end up picking our RB up. It never confuses the D and it doesn't do anything for us for as far as getting a mismatch is concerned. Take out D.Will and put a real receiver in and take chances with a WR vs CB cause a RB vs corner wont do anything

I'd have to go back and look at it, but I don't think the patriots had 5 corners out there, which is the point. Hoping to get a linebacker on Williams or Olsen. But even if that happens, it's not an automatic completion or anything.

    • I've shown you numerous comps for other tackles in the same age and talent range.  His contract, taking into account his age, health, etc.  is the going rate.  It's a fair deal. I've shown you examples of how long it usually takes to find even an average replacement.  Hell, look at every tackle that has ever started for the Panthers.  How many would you consider a success?  They are not easy to find. After everything we've done with this team since drafting Bryce why would we decide to let our best linemen go and add a huge question mark at tackle?   FA is a crapshoot in which any guy available will have cons/issues.  If not, they'll cost a fortune.   Outside of a first or maybe 2nd round pic next year it'll take a few years for a tackle to learn the position at the NFL level.  There are still questions about Icky. Every vet NFL player deals with maintenance.  Between the contract value and history I'm not overly worried about his knee.  I contend his knee issue isn't anything to be overly worried about.  It's not zero risk but it's an acceptable risk.  Every player we draft and every contract we sign has risk.  You're blowing up his own negative words about his knees and ignoring him saying he is healthy and the knee is a non issue.  You have a strong chicken little complex with this team.  Being he has always been a Panther they are very aware of any health issues. We paid now because now is cheaper.  If his knee was really an issue they would have waited.  That tells me it's not the issue you want it to be.
