Urgent: Referee Watch 2014-15 Panthers Edition

Ok. I was just sitting here thinking about that terrible roughing the passer penalty Sunday that I felt emboldened an already defeated Bucs squad. As Panthers fans getting pooed on by the refs is becoming almost something you can see coming as I did Sunday. The Bucs were getting embarrassed in front of their home crowd and the Panthers looked like theyre about to pull a shut out. Somehow I knew they would get "help" and so it was.

A couple plays later when DAs on the field he had one buc down behind his ankles while another basically speared him high and drove him into the ground well after the ball had left his hand. Coach Rivera was furious and... no call. This was right after the horrible penalty we got for our player running into the QB while upright and seemingly trying to pull up.

I've already ranted about the 49ers coronation we happened to be invited to last year in the playoffs. The refereeing in that game was suspect from the very start and became blatant by the end off the game with the guy jumping into our backfield and.....no call. The 49ers became emboldened when they saw THEY had the "help" that day and proceeded to do anything they wanted literally!

What can we do besides grumble? Organize! Let's call em out this year on their bulls**t! Id like to know if any of you guys have that have the capabilities to record and document theses egregious acts could record and post them here this season? The NFL should not be the WWF(WWE). Thanks!

Oh yeah! We are watching!

Sounds fun.

I watched a ton of the early games Sunday, and there were multiple roughing the passer calls that shouldn't have been.  Fact is, they are going to protect the QB.  We are going to benefit this year from these types of calls as well (we did multiple times last year).

The only issue I had with the officials is that the head ref, Pete Morelli was Doug Martin's high school principal.  I doubt it has any impact on how he calls the game, but you would think the NFL would avoid sending him to a Buc's game if Martin is playing.

How fugging bad was that roughing the passer call that DJ Swearinger got! Couldn't believe that one, wasn't even close. Luckily for the Texans they forced a turnover on the very next play.

Yeah, the fact that referees can have that much effect on a game is crap. I have wondered what can be done about it . How about this. Ron Rivera takes another patented but unprecedented (by him as overly emotional tirades is not his style) gamble and throws a hot turd caniption fit after about the third blatantly bad call to intentionally get ejected from the game. Upon leaving he calls his troops, the captains, to "kIck azz and take names" for him, thus firing them up to a frenzy. Yeah, yeah, I know it is a crazy idea but it is so crazy it just may work...as they say in the movies. Think about it Ron!

The Bucs hit DA twice as hard on one play by two people and it was a no call. Im just not a big fan of how they treat QBs these days IMO they should just blow the whistle when a defender wraps a QB. Thats a lot easier call than if the helmet hit or how they hit or if there left butt cheek was clenched while hitting the QB.

That game had me heated. And they were leading with their helmet early on. Ron need to start cussing their asses out. That roughing the passer was already like a 10 yard play, add the penalty literally moved them on the other side of the 50 to our 30. Its humid and hot as fug, its getting towards the end... I mean just give them 7 pts

I agree, but it is not going to change.

Watch the game closely Sunday.  When Cam plays, i guarantee you he will get some flags thrown his way for his protection.

Whether we like or not, the NFL has built this monster as a QB driven league by making them the faces and stars of the game.  The QB's sell the most merchandise and more often than not put the casual fan's butt in the seat.  They are going to go overboard on protecting their investments (even if that means questionable calls against little known or no name defensive players like Thomas Decoud).

I do wish they would get away with the hands to helmet BS roughing call, and also wish they would make helmet to helmet hits reviewable on the QB.  If the ref flags a defender for leading with the helmet, however he doesn't make contact with the QB's helmet (that should be a penalty that is looked at and overturned).

    • A winning record would be nice, but I still have us winning around the 6 to 8 game mark. Realistically we should beat the Jets and Saints, that gets us to 5 wins. After that, we have to face a lot of potential play off teams and our divisional opponents. I think we’ll win 1 or 2 of those games to take us to 6 or 7 wins, perhaps 8 wins if we can spring a further surprise.  Is that enough progress for head coach and QB? I’m not sure, it will depend on performances and output. That said, it’s nice to be back in a position where we are thinking about the play offs.
    • I would tend to agree about not falling into the trap and paying a below average QB, but sometimes situations can “force” a team to pay that QB. For example, if we play ourselves into a 9-8 like record, then what options will we have in the draft? Or do we avoid the draft and trade for or sign someone in free agency?  I’m not convinced by the 2026 QB draft class. There’s some intriguing prospects but no one that really screams “draft me”. I’m not sure we’ve got anyone really that stands out as a trade candidate or free agent signing. So although we might not want to commit a big money contract to Young, him playing well and showing progress might force the team’s hand.
    • Realistically we would be looking at no more than a mid round pick for Dowdle or Chuba. Are we really that desperate for a mid round pick? Not really. I would much prefer us utilise the two RBs in a 1-2 punch similar to how we used D-Will and Stewart. After all, Bryce is not Drew Brees. He won’t throw for 300+ yards and carry the team consistently as a passer. So having a strong running game with a 1-2 punch will be beneficial to him, and it will also be beneficial to the RBs because we can spell them and not overwork them.
