Some Love For DG

I personally like what Gettleman has done in Carolina thus far.  The Gaffney/Barner/Kugbila drafting aside, Avant & Cotchery look like good acquisitions.  No GM is perfect, but his record looks like DG is doing much more positive things here, than bad. It's been awhile since we've gotten a good Gettleman quote.

He is in Ozzie Newsome league of GMs

What has Ozzie Newsome actually done in the past 4-6 years? I don't know much about their team and to be honest am not sure why he gets so much credit. Look up every draft after the Flacco draft and tell me what makes him so great. I see a lot of drafts in the past that weren't so successful. What made Newsome amazing was a great run of probowl/hall of fame 1st round pics. Lately...not impressed.

I love what DG has done and how he has been finding late round gems. I hope it can continue!

According to the article, we were $15M in the hole when DG arrived....crazy to think what he's done.

In the article it also mentions a formula that reminds me of a moneyball kind of approach. As long as the front 7 and Cam Newton are in place, the parts around these areas can be interchanged on the cheap.

His mistakes are much easier to live with than Hurney's, cause he's not afraid to admit to said mistake, and part ways.

Great post.  Many GM's will not admit mistakes and continue to feed that mistake to justify their actions.  DG has integrity and character.  I've said it since I joined the Huddle, this man will take us to the promise land.

I have a friend who's a Giants fan, and he misses Gettleman a lot.

I bet he's not alone

It still qualifies as 'coincidence' to me at this point, but if we continue to be successful and the Giants continue to decline, it would become the sort of thing that would make one wonder.

    • I don't really care as much about athleticism and arm strength.  While Murray might be better in that regard, I think Bryce has enough of both to do well in the NFL. The main reason this trade reference is silly is the money and the fact that Murray has been around a long while and hasn't proven that he can perform consistently when the game is on the line.  Bryce has shown that he can play well in the clutch (in the few opportunities he has had).
    • If Bryce can continue the level of play he showed after the benching, then there's a good shot we at least compete to win the division. Tampa is a solid team but even last year in our week division they went 10-7 and will be on their 4th OC in as many years. The Saints are a mess and are in a mist of a half rebuild half still trying to compete mode and will probably be starting a rookie QB. The Falcons are a wild card as they have a really good offense but are we really crowning Michael Penix as a franchise QB after just 3 games?  The only thing I want out of this season is for Bryce to come out and without a shadow of a doubt prove he's our franchise QB. If that happens then most of the fanbase would be happy and I believe we'd be in a good place record wise at the end of the season. Maybe falling just short of winning the division with a chance to sneak in as a wild card team.
    • His daughter's initials are CAM.  Coincidence? I think not
