No Huddle Offense

Yep,  our goal is TOP football.  The no huddle is a great tool when we need to score.  Yes I know the argument about scoring more than the other team, however I don't think our defense would be as great as they are if it weren't for our offense keeping them off the field to rest for long periods.  Factor in, it puts more pressure on the offense when they know, if we don't score we won't see the ball again for another 7-9 minutes.   It's just a different way to play,  it not as exciting to some, but it seems to work really really well.

I'm OK with its use, between no-huddle. Cam's mobility, and the packaged plays you have a lot of options.

But, still, somewhat sparingly.  I would kinda like to see it thrown in now and again though, because the actual 2 minute drills don't look so crisp at times.

Slow down the game. Let our defense rest. Ball control offense breh.

Clinging to this as a philosophy when it doesn't work is a horrible idea. We couldn't move the ball for poo when we've tried that so far this year, because we can't run. We only had success at all against Detroit with a fast paced, quick route, efficient offense. It was very much the same for a lot of games last year, including the few games the offense sputtered out at the end of the year, including the playoffs, when we stubbornly and ignorantly refused to adjust out of it.

It's not ball control if you can't keep the ball and have to punt.

1. No huddle does not necessarily mean quick pace.

2. When the Offense is struggling, we may use it more often. As stated, it is something Cam loves to do.

3. When the Defense is in a package we can take advantage of, that would be a good time to bring it out.

We did all three against the Lions. And we still took time off the clock.

I really like the get-up and go offense. Our defense is high-energy and gets stronger as the game rolls on. They want to be out there making plays and relish their sets.

I say let Cam roll, Benji and Olsen dominate and Stewart and Tolbert going bowling up the middle. Offense needs to stay crisp and getting mired in the trenches is worse on our O then not is on our truly conditioned elite defense.

Yes exactly, because like I said we ditched the "slowing down the game" against Detroit, when it didn't work. Time of possession was 50/50.

We went 3 and out the first 3 times we touched the ball. Detroit owned the first quarter. We went no huddle to get Cam started and it worked. We used it in the 3rd quarter after we started slowly again.

We don't use it to speed the game up. We mostly use it to get Cam into a groove.

    • Oh for those tired of the Mannings I have bad news, Peytons son Marshal already has college teams after him and he isn't even in HS until this fall...   I'd wager we have two Mannings in the NFL in 2030
    • Push em to the brink!!! Shut em down Freddie!
    • I tend to look at all of these guys and wonder how committed they are to doing special teams? It's a big deal when you're fighting for roster spots. And we need massive refreshes to all phases of the special teams game. And the idea that four or five of these players could see rotational use outside of special teams would be a win. This team has accumulated quite a bit of dead wood over the last five years and its time to take an axe to some of it. These new fellows have a shot to benefit from that if they can really push. That being said, wow that receivers room is crowded right now. I'm not sure if I was a vet player with more than 2 years experience other than Adam Thielen if I'd be too sure of my future here. Tet is guaranteed a spot, Coker earned his for sure and they aren't done with XL developing yet. That's only two to three spots left for the entire room. It's going to be very competitive and better for Bryce's future, too. Safety and linebacker are the opportunity spots here this season. There's room for the right guy and we may see a starter eventually from one of these UDFAs, either by merit or injury.
