Stewart Injury Prone?

SPARTANBURG -- Though the trend is pointing in the wrong direction, Carolina Panthers coach John Fox said he's not worried about running back Jonathan Stewart's durability right now.

Stewart, who had been going through just one practice a day, hasn't worked since Tuesday after a second straight day off for “rest.”

He has been bothered by soreness in his left Achilles tendon, an offshoot of the left big toe problems that had his rookie season off to such a slow start.

I also still have concerns about both of last year's first rounders.

Stewart came in with the knock of being injury prone and while he played a full season, his nagging injuries seem to be on the verge of catching up with him. It's certainly worrying with him having been the 13th pick in the draft.

Otah had a reputation of not playing through pain, and while I'm sure his injuries were fairly serious, it did him no favors in shedding that label.

I think people are making too much of this. I will say its a concern but like last year they said alot of it was in his head and that very well might be the case this year also. Sill I think thats why we drafted Goodson also just as a backup plan.

If Stewart was out of games a lot last year I'd be a lot more concerned, but that's not to say there isn't a concern here. The fact that he played through them and still produced makes me feel better than our experience with a guy like Foster who missed games. Definitely a concern, but I hope it's just a matter of playing through another year of him having "injury issues" and then work their way out of his system, so to speak. He still produced under these ailments, so I'm not freaking out over it.

As for Otah, from what I understand he has played through pain all through college when injuries cropped up. Maybe my perception is off, but I never understood him to be the kind of player who couldn't play through pain.

I also have some concern about Stewart as well. Not necessarily just because of this problem as it seems to be a by-product of last years issue, and will hopefully be ok. But my concern is because he has consistently had ankle and foot problems all through college and now here.

As for Otah, I don't know where you heard that from, but the evidence says otherwise. He played his entire senior season with a high ankle sprain, and even worked out at the combine on it when he could have rested it while he got ready for his pro day. From what I understand, he has never been a wuss about injuries.

    • Why are Vikings fans acting like we peed in their cereal?
    • I’m actually fine with our TE group. I would like to see us upgrade at ILB, maybe safety and CB.   I think we are good at WR. I thought Corley could have been a good player but I guess he wasn’t doing good at all.   I came across this article about Corley from today. I know sometimes a change of scenery can really help turn around a player and we’ve seen plenty of players from the jets end up being good other places. I just don’t know if Corley is that guy.   https://www.newsweek.com/sports/nfl/jets-insider-shares-embarrassing-fact-about-malachi-corleys-release-2119816
    • I was really rooting for him after seeing that video about his struggles. I always thought he was a solid and underrated player.   I thought for sure he would have made the team after hearing all the hype and how he made that overthrown catch by Plummer behind the line and still was able to gain a yard or two off it. Plummer really overthrew him each time yet he was able to still not lose yards. I think he still could play in the nfl. I think he may need a few months to get into top form though. Hopefully he will get signed to another team.
