Our non-existent or non-effective HB screen game

 Other than having a less than desirable O-line  it seems to me that our backs aren't spaced out as far from the QB as other teams  when they run screens.  Does it seem that way to anyone else?  I mean it looks like to me other teams backs are more out towards the flats while our backs always seem even with the DE's or  even inside of their rush.  Is that just me?     Our screens always seem to get blown up in the backfield with the exception of TE screens which appear to occur in the flat.   It seems like we've had this problem for years while other teams have exploited us on screens ( cept for when #59 locks it down)

I totally agree that Trai Turner will be really good for us. The kid is 21.. only a huuuuge upside. Our tackles aren't the most downfield go getters though..

HB screens require OL to block for 2/3 seconds before releasing and pulling to block for the HB.....Most of our guys at blown up at the 1.5 second mark.

Jets game last year.

We could run screens last year. This year the oline gets blown up in .25 seconds

Agree, Those safety blitzes on defense havent been working like they were last year either. It seems like we came into this season doing exactly what we did last year and teams are ready for everything we throw at em. The only thing catching them off guard is Cams improved passing.

We tried one against the Ravens and it looked like hot garbage. Part of it was we ran it against Terrel Suggs and Haloti Ngata. They diagnosed it immediately and broke it up. Credit to terrific veteran defenders.

 

But also I wonder if our Oline is just bad at selling the screen. I kind of feel like the Steelers and Ravens are laden with savvy players and they have a laugh when they watch our guys on film. They probably know our guys better than they knew themselves.

Screens need time to develop, and u need defense respecting deep game, which with pooty o line, right now they are not
