What would your reaction be?

After hearing about Burfict I'm just wondering what fellow huddlers' reactions would be if this was going on with a player on our team? Not defending him at all, I think it is an example of genuine dirty play, but would we be so harsh had it been a Panther doing this?  I can recall in particular Roman Harper talking smack above an injured Gio Bernard yesterday. Marlon McCree was always a headhunter, Mike Mitchell, Dante Wesley's hit on Clifton Smith, etc. So since Burfict is basically their Luke (leading tackler from last season) would the huddle be okay with the league possibly suspending Luke for similar play?

Dude, I would want Rivera to kick that player off the team. There is absolutely NO room for that bullshit in the NFL. If Luke was doing that, I would want him suspended and fined as well, but we all know Luke is too classy for that bush league stuff.

Having grown up watching and learning football in another generation in Southern California and a Raider fan going back to their early days, I think back upon the reputation of those teams. I think back and remember Jack Tatum, Lester Hayes, Lyle Alzado, Ted Hendricks, etc. I was okay with the way those guys played the game because it was all within the rules of the times.

In today's game, everyone of those guys would have been suspended multiple times, if not worse. But let's be realistic, if the NFL didn't change from those days, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

I think the officials should call the game as played and should make calls on specific infractions. But I think the league has all the capability in the world to review game footage in slow motion and look at the entire game Burfict played. He lowered his helmet into Cam, he went after Cam's ankle, Olsen's ankle and went helmet to helmet with KB. If the league were to look at those 4 plays alone, he'd be suspended.

Likewise, I can easily see Hardy or maybe a couple other players on this team doing the same thing in the thick of the game.

I think this is a worthy topic. Where this seems to be different is that the examples mentioned relate to guys being in the act of making a play. I'm not a fan of taunting especially when a guy is injured but when it's directly after the play the taunt might come before an injury is evident and it does not worsen an injury.

I would be ok with any player on the team being suspended for this poo if there were multiple infractions. If it happens on e or even once in a while it has the appearance of being part of the game. But when the same guy is doing the same poo over and over most people conclude that it is intentional.

This. I let the first one go, but after Olsen is when I got angry. I kind of wonder what Luke thinks, being that the two appear to be buds. Honestly, the main reason I let the one against Cam go was because of how Burfict helped Luke up after he initially went down.

    • This is one of my key concerns lost in the sauce that is the neverending conversation about him evading pressure and the OL. Eventually any QB is going to have to step up into the pocket and show the defense they can still beat them even if they get through. We have a limited QB who cannot consistently do this and as such we are relegated to going back and forth about how successful he was at evading pressure but we have little else to write home about. Tyler Shough stepped up into the pocket and made plays despite being pressured and sacked. He's played in about 35 less games than Bryce Young. That is a problem. And isn't just going to go away. The Bucs are going to do the same thing after watching the film.
    • Oh, absolutely! That doesn't absolve the absolute dogshit hockey that the team played in front of him, though. Only Cane that played well tonight was Bradly Nadeau.
    • Thanks for illustrating my point.  No one in the last several pages of this discussion is suggesting we should hang on to him, but anytime someone says anything less than "take him out back and shoot him" you act like they are. That's either you not understanding what you're reading or just being a nimrod because you can't keep up. (I would have said 'or just sh-tposting' but you're way too emotional on this topic for that) Either way, the result is the same 😆
