Troubling comment from Rivera

If that statement is true he needs to go.

An "I don't know" answer is what got Marty Hurney his walking papers.

There's a line in U%71 where harvey Keitel tells Matthew McConnaughey "The Captain always knows, even when he doesn't" because answers like this from leadership pretty much lose everyone.

So yes, if Rivera said this, he might need to be gone at year's end.

Just watched his press conference, something even more troubling stuck out to me:

When asked about the play of Bell and Chandler, it was basically "well, they did the best they could."

Unfortunately, Ron, their best isn't getting it done and is probably the second biggest reason behind Shula we have now dipped under .500. This isn't peewee football. This is the National Football League. "Best they could" just shouldn't cut it at this level. Something has to be done. Bring in competition, trade for a young tackle with upside. Bring in a veteran that has declined. There has to be upgrades elsewhere that can be had at a relatively affordable price.

We've had this discussion before.

Rivera loves "Rudy" type players, the guys that give it their all even if the odds are against them.

I like guys like that too, but a team made up primarily of guys like that isn't going to cut it.

The best way I can put it is that we're reactive rather than proactive.  This staff doesn't walk the line between patience and the axe well at all.  I don't even think they have an axe; more like a bug swatter that they shoe away guys with when things go to sh*t.

idk if this was said but Romeo Crennel said something similar when he tookover as HC in kanas city, they asked him why charles only had a few carries his response was "well that im not quite sure of" then got canned

And if Rivera said this, the same thing needs to happen.

But not midseason.

According to Zod, Rivera said "he doesn't know why Olsen wasn't more involved in the game plan". I find that one of the most disturbing comments from this head coach in a while. I see some head coaches on the sidelines actually calling plays and this guy is the complete opposite. So Shula is devising game plans while Rivera has zero input and no interest? There is something wrong with that picture. Does he not sit in on the offensive meetings at all? Not to know what the game plan will be on BOTH sides of the ball is absurd. I am not sure about his management skills anymore.

He didn't say he DIDN'T KNOW THAT OLSEN WOULDN'T BE very involved in the game plan. He said he doesn't know why he wasn't more involved in it.

He could've known full well that Olsen wouldn't be before the game and let it be the case.

None of it is believable. There's no way Olsen wasn't supposed to be very involved in the game plan, so Rivera was clearly just trying to avoid providing an honest comment.

Interesting thing about Rivera and the last 2 Head Coaches he worked under.

Norv Turner a great OC who knew nothing about defense or the big picture in San Diego or in DC with the Skins.

Lovie Smith a good DC who struggled to bring much more than a good defense and Devin Hester to Chicago and is currently getting curb stomped in Tampa bay.

No wonder Rivera is who he is and was passed over so many times for a HC job.

Actually, I think his not knowing why Olsen wasn't more involved is believable.

And if true, it's a reason to let him go.

That's what I just said. He said he didn't know WHY he wasn't more involved, not that he didn't know he wouldn't be more involved, meaning if he knew he wouldn't be, he didn't have enough sense to question it.

He was trying to avoid the honest answer, which is he didn't have a problem with the game plan, whatever it was.

basically RR has hired his choice coaching staff and fully given them free will at his expense. this is foolish and moreover foolish that someone controls what should be his duties to some degree while he psycho police our players with some doghouse crap. That military crap is irrelevant and he seems to be a softer Mike Singletary in SF.  RR is a people's person that looks out for those he knows, especially people from his past. what a stupid way to sank a ship! if you're going down, man up at least when you realize it before waiting until the last minute. he's been saying things like this all along. nevermind RR, what is Gettleman thinking?

Rivera makes statements like this weekly. If you are going to ignore the Offense. Make sure the guy in charge of it can get the job done. People give Steve a hard time but rumor is he gave Shula a lot of poo for sucking in the locker room. At some point you just have to say "well he has a point".

Yea the Evidence is really piling up that Ron just is a DC and nothing more. He hasn't shown that he has the capacity to coach an entire team.  If I had to choose between Smitty or Shula, Rivera, and DG combo then give me my HoF WR any day of the week.
