Will this be the off-season that we use resources on the offense?

WOW!!

DG has to spend money next season. The offense needs too much help. Cam's going to peace out if we don't.

the real question is on what:

A good deal on a serviceable RT? Count me in.

Spending a high first rounder on a future franchise LT? Count me in.

Doing a Mike Wallace type deal? Count me out.

Drafting a RB in the first round? Count me out.

I've mentioned it before (but correct me if you think I'm wrong):

Our dead money next year is really only Smith at $4 mil. Beason, Anderson, Godfrey, and Gross will be off the books which accounted for $20 mil in dead cash this year.

Also, just transition guys on contract for 2015/16 without considering re-signings, releases, FAs, or any transactions and we've got 122 mil on the books for next year and only about 5 mil in dead money. J Stew has a ridiculous contract...I still can't get over that. We should have plenty to work with factoring in the bump in cap and that we left carry over.

Overthecap.com has us having dead money for Godfrey next year. When a player is cut during the season I think his dead money is spread out over two seasons such as a June 1st cut, but I could be wrong.

Rough calculations here, but I think we will have around 15 million in cap space next year after factoring in practice squad and a cushion for IR. With this we have to fill 15 roster spots, which will include next years draft picks. If we fill those spots with players making 500k and we pay our draft picks we will have around 5-6 million left to spend on a free agent or to extend one of our own players.

If we cut CJ post June 1st we can add about 10 million to that number. There are also a few other players we can cut to save lesser amounts. We could also restructure a few players but alot of our contracts have been leveraged already so we would have to extend them.

Also this season we spent close to the same amount on offense and defense so it is a bit of a myth to say we have ignored spending resources on the offense.

Is it finally time to make getting Cam weapons a priority? ?

Oline a speed Wr maybe a new OC as well.

I know we need secondary help as well but will the FO finally make a effort to use more resources on the offensive side of the ball?

I'm tired of seeing Luck, Dalton, Kaep, and Wilson getting new toys and Cam getting bargain bin left overs.

Gettleman is the GM. So, expect more project players with talent that other teams won't touch until later rounds being picked. You will want offense, but you will get a project DL: and players that can play special teams. All you can do is hope the BPA in the first round is an OL. Otherwise we rely on what is on the roster and pick up more UDFA OL.

    • Watching games this year again and Bryce missed a wide open XL many times and some of them were in the endzone. I get the kid has mental lapses and hasn't broke out yet, but this is year three on a rookie deal! Cutting bait now is too early. If he hasn't gained anymore trust from his QB, posted any highlights, little production, or outright gets beat out then we can talk movement.
    • Samesies   I truly may just cash completely out of Panther football if we give him a long term deal that isnt necessary.  I have watched NFL for 50 years now and I can without a shadow of a doubt say you cannot win consistently with BY.  Way too many limitations to deal with.   I may come back around in 3 years when the inevitable happens and all parties are either cut and/or fired.  Giving him a deal before this season so you hopefully can get him cheaper in case he "blows up" or if you truly believe that he will has to be the most moronic decision a gm can make when the evidence is laid before you with different players
    • This is the one! I was at that game and all KB had to do was lay down on the corner after the pick or make an obvious tag while he was down. He had already ran a lazy route. Then if Cam would've just walked to the sideline like most elite QBs instead of trying to make the tackle.  A lot of people bring up the TJ Watt hit, but he just reaggravated a bunch of scar tissue from that play. And every Cam hater said that the running did him in and it was a dive tackle attempt on an interception that initially began the shoulder deterioration. He still went to New England later and would've got them in the playoffs had their A team not sat out the covid year. We quit on him too early. But hey how good was Teddy? Am I right?
