NFL London: You Guys Good With This?

A "home game" in Wembley would be the shittiest thing ever. 95% of other teams fans or even people who have not much clue what is going on on the field. Europe is NOT ready for the NFL.

We had the NFLE here and it failed.

NFLE failed for the same reason MLS struggles to become an elite league, the players are not as good.

I have the impression that the MLS is on a rise. Beckham just founded a new team in Miami and more and more younger players from other countries enter the leage. It is not only the old guys any more. It surely can not compete with Europes best leages, but has made good progress and the teams play quite well.

The problem is that most of my fellow Europeans know next to nothing about American Football and simply don`t care about it. And they will not change their mind just because there is ONE team in London. Compare it to soccer in the US, with the exemption that the MLS has a pretty good level now. All the American Football leagues that exist here in Europe are so bad, a good HS team would beat any Champion here.

Well they do keep selling out games at Wembley, this year 3 games which could with ease have sold  200.000 tickiets each.

Sure many have no clue whats going on, but go read some of our fat friend from bounty land posts.

A franchise in London is at least 10-15 years away but if the interest keeps growing in Europe  there will be more than enough potential for a team there. London is a gigantic market which can only be matched by NY or LA and not only that but a new team in London will quickly be all of Britain or even all of Europe's team. The market is there.

The problem is logistic and as of right now I see no solution to that. London - NY is a 6-7 hour flight and the time different is 5 hours. That is not too crazy comparing with NY - Seattle but what if Seattle is going to London? So a team in London would mean a whole new structure in divisions and the way the scheduling are made right now. I am not ready for that even as a European oh... And I already have a team so screw London "insert name"

Here is my solution to the London business.  Get rid of two preseason games and extend the season to nineteen weeks and seventeen games.  Each team gets eight home games, eight road games, and one neutral site game in London (or expand to other cities if so desired).  Every team gets two byes, one of which comes after the neutral site game.  The neutral site games begin Week 2 so that everybody is stateside for Week 1.  Have one a week ending Week 17, meaning the last bye is Week 18 and everybody plays in the final week.  Have the London games played early just like the Atlanta/Detroit game.  This provides compromises on a lot of issues that different people want:

Preseason is shorter

Regular season extended

A full schedule of games overseas (which NFL wants but an actual team based there will never work)

Develop fanbases overseas as fans of every team get one opportunity to see them every season

No team put at a competitive disadvantage by losing a home game

Opens up another block of games for the networks (CBS and FOX both get eight early games)

It definitely is rising, but has taken a long time.  NFL in Europe will as well.

... And I already have a team ...

That is my point. The sellouts come from fans of all 32 teams that get the chance to see live NFL football without having to travel overseas. Many of them do not have the resources/time to travel to the US, but a flight to London is easy and cheap within Europe as you know. So the dudes that care of course come to London to see some live action and they are not very picky about who is playing. But will they give up on their team for one in London? I at least doubt that, and I never would. I bet most of them would not either.

But back to the original question. I prefer the "real" home games in America and hate to see what the NFL is doing over here in order to generate more $$$.

That is some good stuff! Props to you!

Just stop. You sound so pathetic when you say things like that.

If you think Charlotte has what it takes to host the SB, then it loses nothing from losing a home game. The economy shouldn't rely on that one game.

He's a businessman and brilliant at making money. That's his job.

They're on the list.

Too be fair, as a North Carolinian it seems like this a lot dude.

Yet you continue to support it by watching. Makes logical sense.

If I had a job or a girlfriend that cheated, disrespected me, etc.....I would get past my anger and move on to something better. You should consider the same.

You just don't understand how hard this is for people to do.  This female I use to date in high school is getting a divorce because her husband that cheated on her and she still wants to be with him because she "loves" him.  Even though they separated 3 different times.  People are completely clueless sometimes dude.
