For those of you who remeber Bobby Phills

Thank God today turned out the way it did.  Regardless of the differing circumstances surrounding the two car incidents, today would have been the worst day in Charlotte sports franchise history if things would have went a little left or a little right.

I remember the day Bobby died.  He was loved by our community and it hurt like hell then and it hurt like hell the night they re-hung his jersey at the cable box.

This picture alone and the thought of what might have been should make us appreciate how lucky we are, whether it was Cam or Andrew Norwell.  How sad would this lone picture be if the unspeakable would have happened?

His truck goes over the bridge and we are front page news/lead story for the next week.  After that...the only thing we have is each other.

Again, you guys joking about turnovers/rollovers might want to step back and be thankful that Cam or for that matter nobody in your life didn't pass today.

We got lucky today as a team and as a "family".

Although none of us are promised tomorrow, I will sleep well that Cam was spared today, even if he never plays another down of NFL football (I know he will you morons, but this could have been worse).

Kiss your Mom, hug your Dad, punch your brother, nuggie your sister, love your wife, antagonize your children....if you are above ground today....give thanks.

And if you are a Panthers fan, Keep Pounding!!

Bobby Phills was on my mind and I'm sure he was on many others during the first half hour of what happened today. When I first saw the pictures of his truck I didn't think anyone was coming out of that without serious injury. All I could really do was hit the refresh button on twitter while my hands visibly shook. I worried like you worry for one of your own because I knew that if he didn't have a seat belt on or rolled just a little bit more it could've been the darkest day in our city and states history. Looking back at it now I think it's a true miracle he came out with out a few bruises and some fractures that will be healed in 6-8 weeks. I'm not much of a believer in luck but it feels like Cam came out of that because he has something big left to do.

Were you alive when Bobby crashed?

Bobby Phills was racing his sports car at over 100 mph down a busy road. He caused the accident and luckily his stupidity and selfish actions did not cause others to be killed.

Not even close to the same thing.

if you read it closely, the op stated, "different circumstances". I swear.

    • Aho…come out and prove me wrong boy.
    • I mean, I hear what y'all are saying, but Derrick could have been positive without being negative.  He essentially accused people of not seeing Bryce's improvement because of their desire to not be wrong. He could've kept it about Bryce and the team. For example, he could've said: "Bryce has made strides, and we believe in him. This coming season, his continued improvement will turn a lot of people into believers."  That would've been supportive of his teammate and sent a message to the doubters. That being said, his tact almost summoned and left the door ajar for more skepticism. That's my take anyway. Bryce has improved from the bottom to perhaps skirting the line between the bottom third and mid-third at best...after three seasons. We've all seen it. Yay! In my mind, Bryce has still got a long way to go and a short time to get there, but my expectations are top five--at least top 10--always! Yes, I am a fan, so there's that, but I don't believe it's unreasonable to expect excellence. Hopefully the Panthers FO has the same mindset (and that doesn't even necessarily have anything to do with what we gave up to acquire him). That is the lens I'm looking through. Derrick Brown has his homer glasses on. He just needs to be more diplomatic and thoughtful with his words in my opinion, but I get it that he's a good teammate.
    • I have no doubt the Canes will come out like gangbusters, huge bounce back from game one - my only concern is Freddie, if he lets in a couple of softies and Dobes stays hot we could be in trouble.
